Ellen Degeneres on the Oprah Winfrey Show – VIDEO

The fruits of Ellen Degeneres’ humorous campaign to be on the cover of Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine have paid off!   Ellen and Oprah will grace the cover of the December issue.

To celebrate, Ellen appeared on Oprah’s afternoon talk show to talk about her life and remarkable career.

They talked about Idol–Ellen says the offer to be the new judge was a complete surprise–she did not lobby for it.

Ellen plans to bring the home viewer aspect to the panel, and realizes now that she’s picky–she’ll be harder on the contestants than she initially thought.   And as far as standing up to Simon is concerned? No problem!

She’ll be funny when the opportunity presents itself.   For instance, last season, she would have teased Adam Lambert about showing too much tongue while singing his signature high notes.   (Actually, I think using the contestants as comedy material could get her in trouble with fans, but she’ll figure that out soon enough. Heh.)

Ellen’s wife, Portia de Rossi joined them for the second part of the interview to talk about their life as a married couple.

After watching Ellen and Portia’s wedding video it’s my sincere hope that Adam gets to know that same joy some day.

ugh. Why do Adam fans have to make every post on this site somehow about Adam? it’s starting to get on my nerves.

    end rant now.

It’s pretty relevant since he’s a GAY person and they were talking about GAY rights to get married… and Ellen brought up ADAM in her interview… besides that it was an observation… said by one person, me…your “rant” drew more attention to it than my lone comment did since you’re the only one who responded.

Why not say Clay Aiken or Nathaniel Marshal? There relevant to the topic. did you post on Justin’s wedding post hoping all the straight idols could get married and know that joy? since that’s pretty relevant since it was a STRAIGHT wedding and most idols are STRAIGHT. oh and yeah she brought him up for like 20 seconds and a good amount comments are making it all about him, and it’s not just on this post it’s pretty much every post. This post wasn’t actually that bad but that comment was the breaking point cause that was the example of Adam fans grasping at straws to talk about him and think it’s all about him IMO.

oh and that’s just and observation by one person … me

  • ianaleah:

The position of tongue for notes is significant, and Adam know what he is doing, so I hope Ellen is careful in what she says, cuz !. I am a mother hen when it comes to contestants but 2. I want Ellen to do well and make it useful but fun for the contestants

  • Squirrely:

Ellen and Portia are great together more real then when she was with Anne Heche. Portia seems beautiful in and out. I wish Adam this kind of happiness and hopefully when he finds his soul mate he will be able to marry and have it recognized.

The position of tongue for notes is significant

I could make some really dirty comments about this, but I’ll be a lady…for once ;)

    ETA:

And so if Clay was mentioned you would not be ranting? That makes no sense.

Ellen using musical critiques…….MMMM….Not so much.!!!
I mean,REALLY, no one uses strictly musical references. But all of them are very familiar with music in some way Certainly Randy, Kara and Simon are directly involved with the Music biz. Ellen like many fans, loves Music ,and, She listens to ,and chooses, music and singers on a constant, ongoing basis. She is well credentialed in her interest in new and upcoming artists. She, like many fans, can assess uniqueness, tone ,pitch, and if any given person can carry a tune, as well ,as what is relevant, and who is, or is not, charismatic. I hear mini critiques almost everytime I log in here……I’m talking about most of you, Yeah!!!!
I believe this will be a learning curve for Ellen. thank goodness she is a
    pretty quick study!!!
Well I know who Adam is ” That Fierce Alien with an incredible tongue!!!
He uses it to pleasure our ears, brains, and HEARTS.
So who are Clay Justin or Nathaniel and Why should I care about them
    in connection to Ellen?????!!!!!!

  • Speaking of Ellen (and I am sooooo excited, cant stand it) but – I get the Ellen tickets this year from our station and guess what taping I get to go to!!! THE ONE THAT ADAM LAMBERT WILL BE TAPING WITH HER, CAN YA SAY EXCITED, CAN YA?? ok – thats all – carry on

  • media bias:

Well MJ was the one who blogged with opening with the Adam comment and the joke about the tongue. There was no rant. The comment MJ made about it backfiring invited comment. And if you google tongue damaging vocal techniques you can read all about it. It’s a PROFESSIONAL TOPIC. They are taught not to use it but some still will when they feel it adds to or “need to” in certain performances.

If the “judge” had any vocal training at all, she’d have known. It’s way different than her sticking up for Ethan because Nigel really mocked his face — it’s natural properties, NOT his expressions but his actual face. I gave her huge props for her rant about that on SYTYCD but overall I did not enjoy what she brought to the show at all.

Some people are actually interested in technical things on these shows not just who is “cutest” or a “trainwreck”. Adam was asked about the tongue and his reply was “yeah it comes out every now and then”. A vocal teacher would read that as him acknowledging obtusely that he’s using it occasionally which can be criticized. The Masterclass Lady person reviews all of their techniques every week so it’s not about just fangirling. Well, unless you’re discussing Idols with absolutely NO technique or training which is 90% of them. in which case, for me reading her critiques is fun to see if my opinion bears any semblance of legitimacy.

  • IdolThoughts:

Did Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Eddie Vedder etc. have a vast technical background? Or do they just rock? There’s something to be said about judging entertainment value and recognizing when an artist transcends technicality into something unique and commercially viable/appealing. I could really care less how Adam uses his tongue on stage. In fact…I’d like to stay in the dark about that kind of stuff. It kinda zaps the fun out of it for me. I use my ears to tell me what sounds good. That’ll do.

    …and when might this be?

  • ianaleah:

I became bored with American Idol, skipped some seasons, never finished others, loved a couple and voted 4 straight hours for Adam Lambert -he was the only reason I tuned in each week. I also like Ellen’s show, know she likes hip hop, which I do not, and I know the position of the tongue is significant for certain songs. If a judge condemened Adam for his tongue, Adam may have corrected that judge- and that would turn off some people, and if not correcting that judge-being rediculed would have gone against the contestant too. Don’t hurt ‘my adam,’ babe, grrrr. But, yeah, Ellen will livin up the show and make it fun. Smart move, AI.

  • media bias:

The same thing should have been told to Kris about his side mouth singing and jaw and neck tension. Except fangirls think it’s so cute. It is far from it. It’s a very bad habit which he stipulates to. And if you watch the new video and his Napa performances, to his credit he’s almost beaten the side mouth deal. The tension, no, and it’s holding him back from a good sound. But hey, whatever floats your boat. Sometimes you need to flatten your tongue to invoke a “Danny” type thicker sound. Or if you need to relax your vocal chords. Or change the pathway of air back there. It’s also an exercise. But NEVER EVER does one need a side mouth or tense jaw and neck. And Dylan would have never won AI, that is a true statement.

The side mouth thing of Kris’ was way more distracting/icky than Adams tongue, imho.
