I liked the Elliott parts a lot!
I don’t get why Kat didn’t sell a ton.. She’s gorgeous and has a great voice..They sound good there but I just don’t like the song much. I love me some Elliott!!
The song is OK, kind of “old school”….the song doesn’t JUMP out at me….why wasn’t Kat a hit? Because she sounds like a bunch of other girl….all those runs she sings throughout the song….that’s exactly what Randy criticizes of other singers.
This album is on Randy’s impress record company right? Is he signing artists to the label?

Not really a big Kat Fan, but like her voice on the song,
as I understand, they were recorded separately and then combined into the song, liking Randy’s production on the song, as I am a big old school r/b type of gal..

Crass yes but it is the worste genric sounding song I heard from an Idol where the could do better than this dribble.(from an idol on the show I watched)This of course means hellow top 5. IMO it was a trainwreck for me .
Hmm, it suits Elliott, but whatever genre Kat fits into, this probably isn’t it. It’s better than Paula’s “song”
Is it dropping as a single to be released to radio?
I loved Elliot’s parts too. Kat’s not so much. I don’t like how she sounds when she starts to do all those runs. She sounds so much better when she uses her lower register.
Elliott really has the perfect voice for these kind of songs, it sure sounds like a 70’s throwback. But I did like the track.

Kat starts fine but when her vocals are combined with Elliott’s she sounds screechyyyyyyyy.

Love Elliott’s part because Elliott’s voice is suited to classic R&B, Kat, not so much. Kat is power pop, once she settles into that, she might make a bit of noise. Her beauty will carry her.
That being said Randy knows what he is doing in the producers booth. I mean after all he produced, Mariah and Whitney, yadda yadda, yadda.

Okay, I have listened to all the clips I want to hear the whole cd. I think Randy has something going on here. Wow.
Because Elliott is one of Ace’s top friends, I clicked on his myspace. OMG. Love his version of “Whiter Shade Of Pale.” Never heard it before.
I don’t like it. My biggest issue is that it’s so repetitive, it’s annoying. I was wondering if it was ever going to end. I’m glad their fans have new music to enjoy, though.

Katharine sounds especially awful on the high parts with Elliott. Girlfriend is NOT a high soprano and should really stop trying. She practically a background singer to Elliott, which is amusing. And both of them rely waaaaaaaay too heavily on the melisma.
It’s fun but does get very repetitive with all those runs. Go listen to E’s version of Whiter Shade of Pale on his Myspace. It’s much better.
the tune is catchy, altho not new….and as usual, elliott is a standout. i was hoping katharine would also be great so that the song would be a hit…..i’m still hoping it will be…but the female vocal is definitely shrill. hopefully, because his voice is so strong, he will carry it to success.
I love the Elliott-Kat Duet. I have listened to it over and over…and yes ! Elliott’s Whiter Shade of Pale is Gorgeous..one of my very Fav Elliott Recording !

guess I expected it to be better
Elliott’s songs IMO have too much vibrato and too many runs and end up all sounding the same thats why I didn’t buy his CD. He has a great voice so I wish he’d just plain sing. I guess he does all those runs cause he can. Katherine is a good singer, she needs to stick with David Foster as I think he can give her music more suited to her voice. I don’t think R&B or dance club are her thing.
Elliott’s part sounds great. I was hoping they’d sound better together than they do, but Kat’s voice is just too shrill for my taste. The song itself isn’t bad, kind of catchy.

Why is this CD being promoted as Randy Jackson’s solo CD? Does he sing on it at all?
Thanks MJ. I like the song. I will definitely buy it. I knew that I would love Elliott but I was not sure what Kat would sound like. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the duet worked.
I hope Randy’s CD will be a success. I hope that the Elliott/Kat duet will be released as a single. Randy will probably go with Miraiah(sp?) instead for the next released single.
There are many AI artist’s CDs that I did not buy, so someone not buying Elliott’s doesn’t bother me. Differences keep the music business alive.
I think it’s pretty catchy but I like the old school stuff. I think they both sound great!

Yes, Kat is shrill in a couple of places and he could have pulled her back somewhat. E’s distinctive parts are quite exceptional… pure old school Elliott… just what I enjoy the most from him. Anxious to play it again and own this track.
I know why she didn’t sell. Because she sounds a really good wedding singer, not a pop star. Never understood how she made it to number 2.
I love the song. Finally I am hearing some of the old much better sound that is music! Todays pop is soo bubblegum and sounds too childish. I think Kat and Elliott sound good together. Love all the runs of Elliott and Kat had a nice sound to her part too. I would love to hear this on radio!It would give me a reason to turn it on again!!
Love both of them and won’t mind when they push, push, push it on the radio. If Randy puts up half the money that has recently been spent on radio play for a couple of other idol songs, this should be a big hit.
Once again, does not really do anything for Kat’s career. Her big number was a quirky singer/songwriter cover, and I can’t believe no one asked KT Tunstall to write something special just for her. Hello?
Cutting her on pop/R&B will never get her off square one as a singer.
Elliott is a bit samey on here, but that’s not his fault. The song just repeats and repeats itself. Should have put him with some young R&B female singer, just anyone who can sing would have made perfect sense.
They have the exact same number of verses and they sing equally, but the statement itself is very amusing.
They BOTH sound great, the song isn’t like the best thing I’ve ever heard, but they sound good together, I wish they could have been in studio together, it would have been even better.
Kat sounds amazing as does Elliott. Kat and Elliott both win.
I wasn’t too thrilled about Kat and Elliott doing a song together since that would force me to buy some of HER music. sorry, not a Kat fan.
For me, Elliott trnasformed this song from a bland, generic Kat song to a fun, old style R&B song. Katharine’s problem is the same problem she had on her CD - good voice, but absolutely no passion or connection to the music. There were a couple of ballads on her CD (I forced myself to listen to it) that I loved and thought could have been hits, but her singing just didn’t do it. It’s like she went in, recorded the CD and then said “ho hum, I have to go to my nail appointment now.” Maybe David Foster will bring out the best in her. Mother McTatas just made her too robotic.
First, I really like E. and really DON’T like K. BUT… this sounds pretty good at first, but the repetitiveness loses me, but “repetitive” seems to be in a lot of music now. Re Kat. Even though I dislike her I think her best niche is bluesy stuff. During AI, she once sang two songs one was bluesy and they panned her for it but I loved it. I also can’t stand her high notes.
Not a bad song and I think they both sound very good on it.

Oh, they didn’t record it together? Snerk. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if on most “duets” the artists don’t record together, but it reduces the “duet” quality for me.
Most duets are not recorded in the same studio, that is one thing you are correct on. It would have felt more natural if they could have played off of one another in an actual studio together, but it didn’t work out that way, when she recorded with Bocelli they did it in studio together and you could tell the difference. I’m just excited to hear Kat’s voice again because I find it beautiful

I think the song is meh. I can’t bring myself to listen to the album snippets. But I do hope Randy does well.

The beginning of the song almost lost me. Elliott sounded good on his parts, but the song is repetitive and Kat sounds a little screechy at the end. I wouldn’t buy it.
