Oh dear lord. they made a full legth version of Gle Club and called it Fame. :wallbash_tb:. The original was so good because it was real and gritty and the actors were just normal kids with nothing to distinguish them but talent. Now we have a buch ok Ken and Barbies doing a watered-down glossy magazine version of the film. :thumbdown_tb:. It’s such a shame. :nono_tb:
On the whole i’m not a fan of re-makes but I loved Fame, the movie and the tv series so i’m looking forward to seeing this. The trailer looks good.
Aw good for Kherrington! I liked her a lot last season.
I never cared for Kherrington myself so it’s unlikely I’ll fork over any money to see it just because she’s in it. Now if they had chosen another non-finalist like Allison from Season 2 or Jaimie from Season 3 then I would be interested. Both of those girls should have gotten farther in the competition IMHO. Twitch carried Kherrington.
I’m so disappointed they are remaking this. I will be seriously mad if they mess up another classic.
If you want to see Jaimie, she’s all over High School Musical 3. It’s a non-speaking role, but she’s prominent as a dancer.
I have a feeling they tested people to see if they could do the acting for “Fame.” Although the non-students are fairly well known (Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, Megan Mullally), the students are all newbies, with Kherington probably the best known among them, which isn’t that well known. I am a sucker for that kind of movie, so I will probably see it. I will miss Irene Cara, though. Sing it with me! “Same! I always sing the same song!” (“Same” was an SNL parody.)
Benji Schwimmer is also apparently doing a movie — I’ve heard from actors I know in Champaign-Urbana (IL) that Melanie LaPatin (the Latin dancer and choreographer who danced with Pasha when Jesse was ill) and Benji are filming some very, very indie thing there. (Or maybe they’re done by now. They were asking local actors to do background stuff and be extras, which is where I heard about it.) It sounds like the plot is basically Gypsy with a gay older daughter instead of one who turns into a stripper. But it’s got a stage mom (LaPatin) and two daughters, one of whom is much more talented than the other, and the mother has always paid a lot more attention to the talented one, who drops out of performing for some reason and the older one steps up. Very Gypsy. Anyway, the younger daughter is a competition ballroom dancer, whose flamingly gay dance partner is played by Benji. Lacey was apparently originally going to be the younger daughter, but she either dropped out or was canned. This movie sounds several steps below indie, so how they put together the bucks to get Benji or Melanie, I don’t know. Maybe that’s why Lacey didn’t stick — maybe they couldn’t afford her.
I couldn’t view the trailer (“not available in your area”) but I predict ‘Fail’. The original was great because it seemed almost like a documentary rather than a movie. Why would they want to remake something that wasn’t broken to begin with?
Aw good for Kherrington! I liked her a lot last season.
I did, too. Didn’t she and Twitch to a touching dance routine for a choreographer’s daughter that has a disability or sickness or something? I loved the 2 of the, or “Twitchington,” as they were called, lol.
Aw, Kherington looks beautiful! She definitely has the look for movies. I’m sure they’ll “High School Musical” the stories so they aren’t as gritty as the original Fame, but I think it might still be entertaining. The trailer seems fun, at least.
Dance movies are doing very well right now and I think kids under 20 are going to like it a lot. Many of them have no idea it’s a remake. Step Up 3D which is a sequel and the remake of Footloose are two others which will be popular, too.
These productions are appealing to a generation that has basically turned their back on theatre so if these movies foster a love for musicals and the arts, in general, then I’m all for it.
Kherrington wasn’t my favorite but I did like her a lot and she looks great in the trailer.
I might see this just because Kherrington’s in it. She was my favorite last year. Plus, it looks cute, even if it’s more High School Musical-y. Hopefully, the storyline will be fairly different from the original Fame so this doesn’t end up a copycat remake.
I couldn’t view the trailer either, but I don’t want to see this movie (or Footloose) as competition but rather an extention in the art form. With the economy so bad for many people, their is a need to escape at an AFFORDABLE price. Muscials tend to left the spirit.
I always thought Kherrington had model/movie star looks and I enjoyed her dancing. I agree Lynne, these movies will feel new to the younger generation.
