Final 3 - Performance Order and Complete Spoiler list

Here is the performance order for tonight:

ETA: Caffiend is back from rehearsal. She said things went well, but that everyone, including Debbie the stage manager seemed very tense. All three seem to be in this to win. Caffiend thought that Syesha Mercado and David Cook sounded a little off-pitch tonight. Overall, The Davids had the most memorable performances. Syesha “Broadwayed” her way through all three numbers. There wasn’t a point where she really connected to what she was singing. She’s definitely gone all glam. Lots of sequins tonight.

1. David Archuleta
2. Syesha Mercado
3. David Cook

1. Judges Choice 2. Kids Choice 3. Producers Choice.

  • David Archuleta - Paula Abdul chose: “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel - Beautiful, best of the 3 songs he did. It was a capella for half the song. he was wearing a tie and leather jacket.
  • Syesha Mercado - Randy Jackson chose: “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys - She wore a sequiny gold gown.
  • David Cook - Simon Cowell chose: “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack - He changed it up - made it a little rocky - almost unrecognizable.
  • David Archuleta - David chose: “With You” by Chris Brown - Audience loved it. Lots of interaction with the audience.
  • Syesha Mercado -Syesha chose: “Fever” by Peggy Lee - She wore a very short sequined mini-dress and sung it very suggestively.
  • David Cook - David chose: “The World I Know” by Collective Soul  “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot - He played guitar. He explained that he wanted to do something upbeat.
  • David Archuleta - The producers chose: “Longer” by Dan Fogelberg - injected some runs - but still good.
  • Syesha Mercado - The producers chose: “Hit Me Up” by Gia Farrell - Syesha’s performances were the least memorable of the night.
  • David Cook - The producers chose: “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. Strings and violins on this one.

I just want to know if DA changes up his 2 crap songs he is forced to sing…

  2. 52 spanishfan May 13th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

Good luck David Cook. I hope you blow us away again. We love you and are voting for you to win. You have 3 stunning songs and I know you will do us proud.

  3. 53 Colleen May 13th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

Thank You for the David Cook update. I get serious anxiety on Tuesdays waiting for the song announcement. Hooray for the pimp spot. DC deserves it!

Just listened to Gordon Lightfoots version of, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”. It’s beautiful and I can imagine DC working it perfectly.

David gets all my phone-in votes tonight. I’ve perfected the Two-Handed phone-in method by alternating the calls by a second to maximize the 2 hour time limit. Call it a labor of love. :king_tb:
It’s been along time since I was bitten this hard by somebodys music. Just can’t get enough Cookie!

Dare you to MOVE! much much better…it has a good build to it unlike the Collective Soul song. Not an areosmith fan but DC has rocked much worse songs. It’s not like he has to earn my vote anymore anyway.
    I’m forever his girl.

  5. 55 folk May 13th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

this is a wine night. yup. a big wine night.

  6. 56 CarieB May 13th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Just listened to the Switchfoot song (which I’d never heard before) and I think I’m happy it for Cookie. I do, however, agree with the concern that he may be singing 3 ballads in a row AND going last on Top 3 night. *shudders*

  7. 57 joydrop May 13th, 2008 at 7:19 pm

DC is closing the night with a cheesy love song…..

    He’ll be fine.

  8. 58 folk May 13th, 2008 at 7:19 pm

folkbf just weighed in that cookie has the best song of the night with dare you to move. and now, if folkbf would stop singing it i would be happy:)

  9. 59 Jolene May 13th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

agree with the concern that he may be singing 3 ballads in a row AND going last on Top 3 night. *shudders*

Two of those ballads are rock ballads, which is what DC has shined best on all throughout the season (it was always the harder rocking songs that got him lukewarm comments).
And isn’t getting the pimp spot on top 3 night considered a good thing? I’m confused.

  10. 60 Lisa May 13th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

I think DC will be stellar on all 3 songs. I’m personally looking forward to Yo Face and Don’t Wanna Miss. Yeppers I truly am. I don’t wanna miss a thing either, lol!

  11. 61 Kat May 13th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

I’m kind of half-scared now that Syesha is going to dedicate “Hit Me Up” to all the penguins in the world who have ever been the victim of oil spills, because their strength inspires her every week on Idol.

  12. 62 folk May 13th, 2008 at 7:29 pm

    oh my god kat….hysterical post.

i am so going to giggle about a penguin dedication now!

  13. 63 bambambam May 13th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

I feel bad for Syesha, I guess 19 could not clear any Rihanna songs so they chose Gia’s knock-off, which has been in a commercial here and there but is not really a well-known song. Unfamiliarity will hurt.

  14. 64 colette May 13th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

This is ridiculous to feel this anxious about @&%*$) TV talent contest. We’re all projecting like mad on a cheesy TV show, aren’t we? Oh well, it’s better than dealing with real life….

I’m getting very VERY nervous for our Cookie. I’m just praying he doesn’t contort “First Time Ever” in ways that disable its power. A lotta people love that song, including Simon, whose reasoning here if he really supports the Cookster to win are a mystery to me.

And I’ve got to take it on faith that the Switchfoot song is going to be better than I fear. It’s a weird batch of tunes, that’s for sure.

Sounds from the rehearsal like DC has to watch his back…..David A may be again’in on him……though it’s hard to imagine Syesha overtaking either.

  15. 65 MrsTrep May 13th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

Ok, so I don’t keep up with the election crap, but I hope West Va is the only state holding a primary today because I don’t want effing politics to interrupt AI tonight. I’ll be pissed!!

  16. 66 rita205 May 13th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

Not so sure about the report from rehearsal, scares me. I can’t really imagine how he might have “rocked up” Simon’s pick.

    Guess we’ll see soon….

Thanks, mj for the update, I’d been waiting on it. Now I can get a shower and get situated in front of the TV.

And isn’t getting the pimp spot on top 3 night considered a good thing? I’m confused.

Usually, yes. But I believe there has been more than one person booted after performing last on top 3 night. Anybody remember anyone other than Melinda? Also, hasn’t the person in the second slot been safe? *looks around for Kirsten*

  18. 68 Cinemaniac86 May 13th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Thanks a bunch on behalf of IDF :D. A few people are frustrated at the lack of commentary on the actual performances and what Caffiend thought about each of them, but I’m assuming that the heavy load of 3 songs a piece was a bit much to provide full commentary on. Would still like to know how each individual performance went, if you could, but this on its own is great enough! ;).

  19. 69 folk May 13th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

you can already predict the comments

archie– randy– that was teh bomb
paula- tears and blathering about how she knew it was the right song
simon- great way to start the show

    syesha-good
    good
    good

    cook
randy- i don’t know man, you changed it too much
    paula- you are you
simon- why did you not sing it like roberta flack?????

it actually could be a rough night for dc.

  20. 70 jpfan May 13th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

David Cook fans need to have more faith. All he has to do is be better than Syesha and I doubt that’ll be a problem. :)

I’m sure he’ll be hearing plenty of “you’re the bomb” and “the most original Idol evah.”

  21. 71 grayhound May 13th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Off pitch rehearsal = on pitch performance.

    (hoping)

Yeah, it’s kind of hard to remember everything! I think it all goes by in a bit of a blur.

Sometimes she stops by before the show to add additional comments…

  23. 73 hollygo9 May 13th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Usually, yes. But I believe there has been more than one person booted after performing last on top 3 night. Anybody remember anyone other than Melinda?

Melinda (T3) and Anthony Fed (T4) are the only people to ever get booted after the pimp spot in a non-finale episode. The pimp spot is a good thing.

  24. 74 thebluemartini May 13th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

    I like your thinking, grayhound!

  25. 75 Jolene May 13th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Hmm… the comments are making me a bit nervous, as does the thought of Cook “Rocking” Yo’Face. But I did think earlier that to be truly Cookie, He would rock the ballad and strip the rock anthem (Aerosmith - though I do realize it’s also a ballad). I just hope Simon takes it well. Hee.

If he doesn’t, Cook has 2 songs to rebound. Also - it’s good that the producer’s is the last song, because I think Cook has the better song out of the 3 producer choices.

  26. 76 Lisa May 13th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Melinda was the only one booted from a pimp spot for Top 3 finalists.

  27. 77 Colleen May 13th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

“Dare You to Move” was from the Disney movie, Lion King.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=IS1fvCBlzCo

I found 2 different versions on youtube. This one went a little deeper emotionally after I remember it from the movie.

Can’t wait to hear all 3 songs!

  28. 78 Kat May 13th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

I feel bad for Syesha, I guess 19 could not clear any Rihanna songs so they chose Gia’s knock-off

Yeah, I was 99% sure that Syesha would play the contemporary card and choose “Umbrella.”

  29. 79 Trina May 13th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

I’ve read two different sets of opinions. One that he was off pitch, one that he sounded fine..he changed TFTEISYF, he didn’t change it. I think I’ll watch myself before worrying.

I have too Trina. lol I just listened to “Dare You To Move” and I really like it. Actually, when the chorus started, that’s when I finally remembered this song. Heh!

  31. 81 St.Lucia May 13th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Well, it sounds like Syesha obviously sounded like she took to heart what the judges said a few weeks ago on ALW night that she was in her element….although that does not do EVERYTHING over the top.

Oh well. I’m just wondering if she plans on saving the whales tonight.

Or maybe the increase in gas prices.

  32. 82 jersey May 13th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Colleen, I’m pretty sure that that is just a vid made for Youtube. Elton John wrote all the music for “The Lion King”.

  33. 83 movin2thabeet May 13th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

I believe DC’s song is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK_E7xS7AtQ

When i search youtube for roberta flack, and song fist time ever saw YF….included always is…tah dah…. Leona Lewis. hmmmmmm

  35. 85 annoula May 13th, 2008 at 8:08 pm

    Ok, here goes:

    1. Archuleta: nice a capella, but why didn’t he play the piano? A bit boring, which is not surprising since he doesn’t know what the lyrics mean. Best part was when Simon told off the annoying waving hand girls.

  36. 86 Caffiend May 13th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Hi, everyone: Well, you’re all watching the show now, so you’ll see what everyone says. Rehearsal did go by very fast. Each song is short, and they’re cramming nine songs into an hour. The songs were so short, I don’t think any of them were outstanding. But I don’t trust my read on things anymore. The audience loved Archie and Cook best. I thought Cook had the best songs. Syesha’s songs were too showy; she should have thrown in a ballad to connect with the audience. I’ll be interested to hear what y’all think. I’ll be in chat if anyone has questions.

  37. 87 Lisa May 13th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

    WOOHOO ROUND 1 COOK!!!!!!!

  38. 88 Colleen May 13th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Jersey, You are absolutely right! The version I found was made just for youtube. Sorry for the misquote!

I am so jealous of everyone on the East coast, who is watching the show right now. MTZ is 2 hours behind you and patiently waiting!

Crossing my fingers Cookie gets Moulton Hot Lava reviews.

    2. Syesha: Ok, she has a nice voice, but seriously, an Alicia Keyes song? It’s freaking Alicia Keyes. She has power. She has spirit. She has ridiculous animation. You can have a nice voice, but you can’t top Alicia. Not her fault, but it is what it is.

    3. David Freaking Cook. Beautiful. Immaculate. I’m talking about his voice. He knows what those lyrics mean. He feels it.

  40. 90 lilq May 13th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Why is Syesha talking like a “hot mess”?

  41. 91 annoula May 13th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

    4. Archuleta: Ok, so I’m a Cook fan, so admittedly I’m biased. I’m trying to objective here. It was a good song choice. He was being young. He even had an edge in his eyes. However, Chris Brown sings it much smoother, better, with more heart. Since it’s such a recent song, the comparison has to happen. Sorry. But I will be nice and say that at least he didn’t pick another ballad, and at least he said “my boo” and “little figure.” You know his dad is going to yell at him, so I don’t want to be too mean.

    5. Syesha was ok. But nothing spectacular except for her last notes. Those were nice.

    6. David Cook: I thought it was pretty good. I hate that the song is too short, but I thought he brought some passion back that was missing from the last two weeks.

    7. Archuleta: Uh…kind of stopped paying attention. I guess it’s not his fault he gets elevator music. I don’t know, if he played the piano with it or something, it would give it some oomph.

    8. Syesha: Poor her. She sings nicely. She smiles. It’s not her fault they give her a non-American Idol type song as the last one. Oh well.
