Ok, I’m reserving this space for spoilers. Hopefully we will get some today. If you know any, please post! This is what we have so far for tonight’s Final 3 performance. Each contestant will sing three songs–one from a judge, one from Clive Davis and a personal choice:
Blake Lewis:
- Paula Abdul chose ”Roxanne” by the Police.
- Blakes personal choice is a song by Maroon 5 (according to a friend)
- Clives choice for Blake is a song by Robin Thicke (according to a friend)
Jordin Sparks:
- Simon Cowell chose Jordin Sparks’ “Wishing on a Star” by Rose Royce.
- Jordin told classmates at her homecoming that her personal song choice would be a reprise of “I Who Have Nothing”–her song pick for British Invasion night.
Melinda Doolittle:
- Randy Jackson chose “I Believe in You and Me” by Whitney Houston.
- Clive Davis chose a Tina Turner song.
Rumored performance order:
- Jordin Sparks
- Blake Lewis
- Melinda Doolittle
For tomorrow night’s results show, Elliott Yamin will perform “Wait for You” and Maroon 5 performs “Makes Me Wonder.” Leona Lewis (she won Simon Cowell’s British show X-Factor) who was originally slated to perform, but word is she recently came down with tonsillitis.

I personally think whoever wins this season’s career will practically be dead on arrival anyway.
Melinda will not sell albums and will not sell tickets to the tour. Blake will sell tickets to the tour and will sell albums to his fanbase, but his style will not be widely accepted by radio. Jordin is too young and doesn’t have a musical identity. She could be marketed towards the tweens- but no contestant like that has ever won AI.
Clive must be cringing at thinking he has to sign one of these three…
Why, pray tell, would TPTB have built Jordin up over the past several weeks (to the extent of propping her up by never giving her the opening spot in performance order, giving her the pimp spot 3 times in the finals, and HEAVILY praising above average - not amazing - performances), just to throw her under the bus in the top 3 week? That makes no sense, whatsoever.
Although, it WOULD be poetic justice if a man was to win “the year of the woman”. Heh. That would be a major FU in the face of TPTB.
xoxoyc, I agree to a point. I don’t think this year’s winner will be a huge seller. There’s no Kelly or Carrie here. Not even a Chris Daughtry.
otoh, I think they feel they can mold Jordin into something they want.
Do you think winning would help any of these three or hurt them?
I think Melinda will be the hardest one to market, just because she can’t really be molded into top 40, not saying that’s the end all, but it is a successful market that does drive record sales. Where as AC not so much. I think Blake could put out a very interesting, but probably polarizing album. Jordin could easily do top 40, I just hope they don’t try to dumb down her lyrics. Sure she’s ONLY 17!!!! But at 17 you don’t need to be singing about dolls
Oh, Melinda will sell tickets to the tour. I know of at least 5 people who plan on seeing the tour for the first time because of Melinda (myself included).

Are we sure that people are not confusing tonights contestants choice songs with the song that all three will sing TOMORROW on results night? The final three will sing the song thats going on the AI 2007 album tomorrow.
I have a feeling that Melinda is going to flat out SLAY tonight. She knows she has to bring it. She knows it’s the 11th hour. If anyone has it in them to give us a little, as Lakisha would say, something - something, it’s Melinda.
When I heard they gave her the pimp spot, I knew it was because there was something in one or more of her performances that had earned her that spot and I’m EXCITED!

Elliott got a lot of building up/pimping last year leading into the top 3. They threw him under the bus top 3 week anyway. (Remember all the times Elliott was in the bottom 3 and he got to resing his song from the night before and the judges fawning and he had the sad story about his life and his Mama?) Those were all used to build him up so he could be thrown under the bus top 3.
Tonight is about demographics- and making sure Blake makes the finale for that reason.
On IDF it seems that the fanbases are like this:
There are a lot of Jordin/Blake fans, that have either Jordin as their favourite and Blake as their second favourite or vice versa. The Melinda fans are just by themselves kinda. So if either Jordin or Blake gets kicked off tomorrow, I could see them getting a huge upswing in votes.
XO, it was also OBVIOUS last year once Daughtry got the boot that TPTB wanted Taylor and Katharine in the finale.
Elliott was never primed for winning the way that Jordin has been.

Jordin going first, by the by, isn’t them throwing her under the bus. It’s self-referentially mnaufactured drama. “Can Jordin break The Curse?” This season isn’t about the kids, and hasn’t been all year. It’s been about the SHOW itself. This simply follows the trend.

Melinda isn’t necessarily an easy fit as far as finding a current genre to put her in, but if they find the right material I think she will sell a lot better than people are expecting her to.

From the get go, i had predicted Jordin will be the next AI, the judges are so obvious rarely she had bad critics from them. She’s Ok, but not outstanding. Something for all of you to think about. She won the Arizona Idol, sponsored by Fox, sent her to Seattle to audition again, because she did not make the 1st round at LA audition. Can anybody tell me what TPTB stand for.
