Oh Lord. Sambalambayayajojo is doing a skit with the UCLA cheerleaders like the Kellie Pickler skit with Wolfgang last year?

I think Sanjaya was filming for a reality show, and not the AI finale. But I could be wrong.

Green Day is the “surprise” guest. I’ll mute my TV! I hate, hate Green Day. I used to like Green Day circa “Dookie” but anything of recent makes me absolute loathe them. Yuck.

And I may be alone, but I’m totally skeptical about the Beatles medley. I’m just…a person who doesn’t want to see singers do bad karaoke versions of songs I adore. As a devout Beatles fan…I just…I don’t know. Makes me nervous to have those songs on Idol. So, I’m definitely a bit “ehh” about the medley. We’ll see though, maybe some surprises.

How appropriate for the winner of American Idol to get to duet with Blake on “I saw her standing there!” What a logical choice! She’s even talked about in the lyric. *rolls eyes*

Anyone up for a drinking game? I bet tonight we’ll hear Jordin’s age be mentioned a record amount of times.

And I may be alone, but I’m totally skeptical about the Beatles medley.

I LOVE The Beatles (1st Cd I ever bought), but in all fairness most of their songs sound good even when not sung well. The melodies are so great and catchy that even these jokers could make them enjoyable (I hope).

yeah Green Day is confirmed, they’re doing “Working Class Hero”…their manager confirmed it via email to one of the people at Green Day Authority in the past few mins. i personally am thrilled, and that’s the only interest i have in idol tonite, haven’t watched all year. its what brought me back here, i know MJ always has the scoop first on everything lol. the only thing i miss about AI is hanging out reading the interesting posts here and MJ’s excellent write-ups. anyway, just got word and thought i’d let everyone know.

I’m disappointed….I know that #4 from last year was allowed to perform with a special musical guest. I believe it was also one of his favorite groups…

Even #5 did. TPTB’ve really flipped the bird at the contestants this season.

  7. 207 calimari May 23rd, 2007 at 7:38 pm

That Sanjaya’s universe bit was great. I’m a HUGE Beatles fan, and also John Lennon. My life-changing Lennon song, though, is Working Class Hero. I hope Green Day doesn’t F it up. I must have listened to that song over and over and over when I was in high school. I have 2 copies of the album, I have the cassette tape and the CD.
I hope you’re kidding about the “I Saw Her Standing There’ bit w/ the she’s just 17 comment. That would be tooooo hokey. I’m hoping it’s at least entertaining - don’t think it will be anywhere as good as last year just based on the fact that all the group songs this year sucked. There isn’t a lot of talent in this group overall, and they don’t blend well together like they did last year. We’ll see what they’ll pull off!

  8. 208 Former_AI_Junkie May 23rd, 2007 at 7:42 pm

That Sanjaya’s universe bit was great

    Thank you :)

I’m a HUGE Beatles fan, and also John Lennon. My life-changing Lennon song, though, is Working Class Hero

    There’s room at the top
    They keep telling you still
    But first you must learn
How to smile as you kill
    If you want to live
Like the folks on the hill

Green Day will probably give it an OTT Emo performance with none of the sarcasm and self-mocking of the original. I hope I’m wrong, but it’s really such a basic song (3 chords) that it easily becomes a borefest if you don’t fully connect with the lyrics.

  9. 209 calimari May 23rd, 2007 at 7:48 pm

For me, with Lennon, it’s all about the lyrics. Guess that’s why, unlike Jordan, I’m not a big fan of MMm-Bop.

  10. 210 St.Lucia May 23rd, 2007 at 7:50 pm

I just…maybe okay I’m being biased because of my absolute hatred of Green Day, but I just…I can’t seem them connecting to that song that way it was meant to be sung.

I personally think that song is better left as untouched. I’m SCARED to see what Green Day will do with it.

Sigh. If you’re going to have someone do that song, WHY Green Day. Yes, I’m bitching, but man…I really don’t like them!

  11. 211 Former_AI_Junkie May 23rd, 2007 at 7:54 pm

Sigh. If you’re going to have someone do that song, WHY Green Day

It IS only 3 chords.. they would get lost on the other songs LOL

  12. 212 xoxoyc May 23rd, 2007 at 7:54 pm

I never thought I’d say this; but I sure wish Katharine was
    performing tonight.

I never thought you’d say that either but I completely agree. It pisses me off that they couldn’t have her back to sing on the show there’s no excuse for it really.

  13. 213 Lisa May 23rd, 2007 at 7:55 pm

radname, the *writer* for AI was on the carpet at the TV Guide show and she stated that the Sanjayaya thing is for tonight and it will be like Kellie Pickler’s Wolfgang Puck skit. Sanjambalam will have his Faux hair and does the skit with the UCLA cheerleaders.

  14. 214 Former_AI_Junkie May 23rd, 2007 at 7:56 pm

I think McTatas was supposed to perform earlier in the season but there was some scheduling conflict on her part.

  15. 215 Who'sUrDaddy May 23rd, 2007 at 7:59 pm

What no Katharine on the season finale.
When Kellie, Elliott and Chris have been on. And Taylor tonight.
    I’m So ticked.
Afrter to night, no more of AI6 for me.

  16. 216 St.Lucia May 23rd, 2007 at 8:00 pm

For me, with Lennon, it’s all about the lyrics. Guess that’s why, unlike Jordan, I’m not a big fan of MMm-Bop.

Okay, I totally couldn’t resist. I’m a Hanson fan. Yes. I’m totally beyond a normal age of being a Hanson fan. But I highly respect this band. I also have a daughter who was at the right age when that song came out. You get where this is going. Regardless, I’ve grown to greatly appreciate and respect them as musical artists. I’ve seen them in concert(with my daughter) numerous times. They put on one HELL of a show. And this isn’t being an “MMMBop” fan, although I do like the song, that intrigued me on the band initially. (And I’m not going into the actual meaning behind the song, because I do know the importance behind it), but they are a great band and if you’re brave enough I recommend to look into some of the newer music.

Now BACK on topic, I can already picture how this whole duet of “I Saw her standing there” is going to go. Can we say “Cheesy” and involving Blake fawning all over Jordin. I may actually slightly enjoy this.

And wanted to comment on FAIJ post:

I LOVE The Beatles (1st Cd I ever bought), but in all fairness most of their songs sound good even when not sung well. The melodies are so great and catchy that even these jokers could make them enjoyable (I hope).

I do find this true and not true all at the same time. I think a lot of their earlier material does have a traditional “pop” formula and some songs have been covered to death. However, I don’t think that can be said about their latter material. Let’s put it this way, I’ll be happy if I never hear someone do a cover of “I am the walrus” although I’m sure it’s been done but I won’t go look for it. There are some Beatles songs I want left alone. Being AI I’m sure they may stray from some of the less “poppier” songs, if you will.

  17. 217 Former_AI_Junkie May 23rd, 2007 at 8:07 pm

St. Lucia, I didn’t mean ALL their songs (hard to generalize with The Beatles since they’ve recorded over 300), but I’d say the common thread to the large majority of their songs is that you could teach them to a 3 year old and he could sing them so others could recognise them. Doesn’t mean he’d sing them well, but really their songs are to me the best pop music ever written- even most of their latter stuff. Pop fused with 1,001 other jenres, but still pop. Even the full orchestra songs you could play with 4-5 chords on guitar and it would still sound OK.

~I’ll be happy if I never hear someone do a cover of “I am the walrus” although I’m sure it’s been done but I won’t go look for it~

You never heard Oasis’ full-on distortion version then, have you? That’s a good thing LOL It’s AWFUL

I’m in, beer’s poured. WOOHOO drink everytime you hear “17″ :drunk_tb:

I for one am glad McBoobies isn’t on tonight. I was forced to listen to her for an entire season & that was more than enough for me :lol_wp:

  19. 219 St.Lucia May 23rd, 2007 at 8:18 pm

I missed the first few minutes! lost track of time! Missed the initial song of “I saw her standing there!” We know there is 17 in that song, and well, that means one shot, and to error on the side of caution….I say there has been two 17’s!

    Drink up! :drunk_tb:

  20. 220 Kirsten May 23rd, 2007 at 8:48 pm

It pulled 24.5 million total viewers, down 23 percent from 31.8 million on the same night last year.

Wow! That’s a massive drop. They lost almost a quarter of their viewers. I do hope they make the right changes next year to get the show back on track.

  21. 221 carriebear May 23rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm

    so whos going to win???

Amen! I’m not watching AI6 after tonight either! Hrmmph!

I loved Blake with Doug E!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Brandon and Sligh made me yearn for a different outcome.
