FOX LA SYTYCD Recap: Chelsie Hightower Was One of Michael Jackson’s Backup Dancers

Interesting So You Think You Can Dance post-show wrap up from FOX 11 LA. It turns out, Season 4’s Chelsie Hightower was chosen to be one of Michael Jackson’s backup dancers for his London concerts. Mia Michaels tells FOX that reports she heard from Jackson’s rehearsals were all glowing.

Also, Nigel Lythgoe talks about his brand-new Dizzyfeet Foundation, set up to help provide dance programs for underprivileged kids. And yes, it’s official, a Katie Holmes/Tyce DiOrio Broadway routine will air on the 100th episode of SYTYCD on July 23. Plus, there are short interviews with bootees Vitolio Jeune and Karla Garcia.

    There’s no doubt in my mind that the reviews were positive. If there’s one thing MJ knew how to do right it was performing/entertaining. That is where he shined the most. The concerts were only in London, so I wouldn’t have been able to attend anyways, but its still a shame those who could go aren’t able to now.

    I had tickets. :( . I’ve also decided to take the memorial tickets instead of the refund. I miss him.

    Sunn, are those the tickets that could be used for a Tribute presentation? Would you be going to that? Is memoral tickets the same as Tribute tickets? Sad about this…

    Good for Chelsie Hightower! I believe there were only 11-12 dancers chosen. She won’t have the opportunity to perform, but this selection looks good on her resume!

    The rehearsal footage that we have seen is really amazing. I’m so bummed for Chelsie. That would have been the gig of a lifetime.

    MJ, LA Fox 11 made a mistake. Chelsie was not one of the dancers who were going on tour with Michael Jackson. Here is an article that lists the names of the 12 dancers: http://www.thehiphopchronicle.com/2009/05/19/michael-jackson-chooses-dancers-for-comeback-tour/
    There are also several videos of the auditions and final cuts on YouTube.

    I don’t think Chelsie would even audition because she is supposed to be on DWTS next season. Also, her field of expertise isn’t what they were looking for. There were some amazing dancers who tried out and they mostly were doing hard-hitting hip-hop moves.

    Note: Fox 11 didn’t even spell Karla’s name right. LOL.
