Pamster - I didn’t realize Elliott’s show is general admission… I guess you’ll just have to push your way to the front. ;) Which venue is it?

Did y’all notice Melanie coming in on certain parts of JTFTW? I think it might be because it is such a hard song to sing live that she could balance out some of the harder parts but I am certainly not an expert.

Hicksaholic - Actually, the back up singing really bothered me in that performance. I thought Taylor sounded great, but the back up singing sounded very off to me, and way too distracting. It didn’t work for me at all. I would love to hear the rest of The Maze though.

LMAO i just read someone liken Chris’ voice to “opening up his mouth and the noise of a kazoo comes out!” And Melinda looks like DW from the childs cartoon show, Arthur

PlatinumGray - I agree with your assessment… I don’t like the way Taylor has been chopping up the phrasing when he performs JTFTW on TV.

See, I thought he sang it pretty much like the cd when he sang it on Ellen. I REALLY didn’t like it this morning.

We are not the only ones who weren’t impressed with it this morning - this blog link was in my google alerts: :(

    What a Hick!

Can someone tell me WHAT the hell is Taylor Hicks doing and why is he on my television?

I’m watching Regis & Kelly right now and he is screaming worse than that drunk guy trying to be a rock star at karaoke on Monday. (No, that wasn’t me…)

Now I don’t watch American Idol (SHUT UP! I KNOW!) , but how in God’s name did he win.

Big Tay.. Thanks for the Taylor videos with Regis & Kelly. Finally he put on some gel. He looked good.

I am thinking he is taking a lesson or two from Blake on the hair department. Ha, ha. You should Taylor, Blake has an awesome sense of style. JMHO.

What a difference the gel makes on Taylor honestly…

I think The MAze is the only song on Taylor’s album that may have a chance of airplay on Top 40 radio. Hope they choose it as his next single.

In other news Go Team Plaid!
I am glad Blake’s songs on AI have been charting high on Itunes. He really going to sell TONS of records. I have a feeling..

I had never heard When The Stars Go Blue which Blake sang last Tuesday. I think it is a beautiful song and I have become somewhat obsessed with it. Here is the Tim McGraw version which someone has made into a video to scenes from a Johnny Depp movie.

This is the version Blake did last week. What a great song.

The African Children’s Choir will make an appearance on the American Idol - “Idol Gives Back” show, which will raise funds for charities in the U.S. and Africa.

The show, which airs live 25 April in the US, will feature the choir performing with Grammy-nominated American singer/songwriter, Josh Groban. The show is expected to be its largest viewing to date with nearly 60 million viewers.

On the scene for the last 22 years, the African Children’s Choir has been heard and seen across the world.

Their personal stories of triumph through adversity are evidenced through their music and they have performed even at: the UN General Assembly; One.org with George Clooney, Lindsay Lohan and Ellen DeGeneres; Live8 with Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox and Sting; and the 46664 Concert with Will Smith and Nelson Mandela among others.

For every vote cast via phone or text message on the show, “Idol” sponsors Coca-Cola, AT&T and others will donate money to charity.

Organisations such as UNICEF, the Global Fund, Save the Children, Nothing but Nets and Malaria No More will benefit from the donations.

Idol Gives Back” also is providing a link on its website to One: The Campaign to Make Poverty History.

U2’s Bono, co-founder of the One campaign, said “I wouldn’t underestimate the reach of [Idol] or the impact its audience can have.”

Elliott is at ‘The Loft’ in Atlanta which was where Daughtry sang about a month ago. It is a smaller venue, but Chris sold his show out within minutes.

I have always felt that “The Maze” could be a big hit. That song is a great song for ” summer put the top down and drive around”. And Taylor did look great on R&K this am. JTFTW is a good song but difficult to sing.Taylor really belts it out , maybe if he would go a little softer in the beginning then build to the belting he wouldn’t strain his voice so much. He has the kind of voice I love to listen to.
As for Melinda , I think that she has the most beautiful eyes and I thought that she looked great on country night. She has had a couple of off nights on her attire but she has been so consistant with her singing , I love the gal. She seems to me that she is a person with a beautiful soul.

    To quote a quote:

Now I don’t watch American Idol (SHUT UP! I KNOW!) , but how in God’s name did he win.

I haven’t watched R&K yet, but why he won was so, so evident at the Beacon tonight. I’ve never been a part of anything like that, at his prior shows or any other concert I’ve ever been to.

I thought it was going to be a dead crowd. I was wrong.

The roof? Was ripped off the joint.

So, did he sell out the Beacon ?

  12. 162 Kat in NY Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:20 am

So, did he sell out the Beacon?

I don’t think so. They had all levels open I believe, and I was toward the front of the orchestra level. The orchestra seating was crowded but not full, I could not see the upper 2 levels.

You would never have known it was not a sellout from the noise level. The cheers were deafening. New York City loves Taylor Hicks.

  13. 163 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:23 am

Kat in NY…………that is really good to hear. Did you meet up with any MJ members?

  14. 164 Little Boy Blue Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:24 am

Thanks Kat in NY… What was the crowd profile like ? Age group ? Men vs. women ? And what did Taylor do for an encore ?

  15. 165 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:26 am

LBB…………I think Naked In the Jungle, right Kat? I was on the boogie but right at the very end the cellcert went kaput.

  16. 166 Kat in NY Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:39 am

The encore was Naked in the Jungle mixed with Sly Stone’s Higher. He played the organ. He dropped the mic, started to leave and came back, left the stage for a bit, and came back out again. The audience was just wild for him. Screaming, cheering, clapping banging on seats. I can’t convey with words how much NYC loved Taylor Hicks.

Crowd was as diverse as NYC :) Good mix of young/old, men/women.

I didn’t meet up with any MJers :( I’m shy :redface_wp: Next time, since there surely will be one after that.

  17. 167 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:44 am

Thanks Kat. I read your recap on the boogie. I hope the review is a good one. Have a good night.

  18. 168 Metta Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:47 am

Hi all - I was just in chat - didn’t think anyone was still here. I echo what Kat said about the show. For me, it was the very best performance I’ve ever seen from Taylor. The love was mutual - he said we were the best audience of the entire tour.

  19. 169 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:49 am

Metta…………was there any a** kicking tonite or did the Taylor love dissolve it?

  20. 170 Kat in NY Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:51 am

Thanks mad :smile_wp: I’m going to be up until 5AM I am so wired right now lol.

I can’t imagine anyone giving that a bad review… but even if that ends up being the case I can say without a single doubt that the audience loved the hell out of him. I know i’m repeating myslef but the crowd reaction just blew my mind. I absolutely did not expect that from this crowd going in.

  21. 171 Metta Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:53 am

Ditto what Kat said about the audience reaction. It was thunderous. The orchestra section stood for the entire show.

mad - Not even Taylor could come between my foot and JJ’s a$$. Cue the “Had a Bad Day” music for JJ’s a$$.

  22. 172 Boulder Soul Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:57 am

I love Metta….glad Taylor was on his game and that you had a GREAT time.

  23. 173 Metta Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:58 am

Love you too, Boulder :) Maybe tomorrow I’ll do a recap if peeps are interested. Good nite for now.

  24. 174 Boulder Soul Apr 21st, 2007 at 12:59 am

    KatinNY:
Thanks for your comments. Sounds as if the Beacon was rocking hard.

  25. 175 Boulder Soul Apr 21st, 2007 at 1:01 am

Night Metta. Yes, interested in Beacon details. I guess ass kicking tires one out. ;) Sleep well my friend.

  26. 176 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 1:01 am

Metta……….LOL re:JJ. We will hear her side tomorrow I am sure. Of course there will be enough interest. Will you post here or at the boogie?

Kat………I imagine that you would be wired. I have a few weeks till I go. How was Toby Lightman?

  27. 177 Metta Apr 21st, 2007 at 1:09 am

Mad - I’ll post here. I just posted a short recap on the boogie.

    Thanks and nite all :)

  28. 178 Kat in NY Apr 21st, 2007 at 1:10 am

    How was Toby Lightman?

I like her, though I was a tad bored tonight since it was my third time seeing her, and her set list didn’t change much.

She mentioned that his was her last night with Taylor, and her first time at the Beacon, so of course she would get sick beforehand :sad_wp: She definetely looked ill but still gave a solid performance.

  29. 179 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 1:30 am

Kat………….that is too bad that Toby was sick. I read somewhere that she said she might be back for the last shows. Don’t remember where I saw that. I know she has some other gigs next week etc. I would like her to be at our west coast concerts out of the opening acts Taylor has had so far. Maybe it doesn’t matter though. I am going to give it up for tonite. Glad you had such a good time!

  30. 180 sexygirl Apr 21st, 2007 at 1:49 am

I stood between Metta giving JJ a good ole fashion BUTT WHOOOOPING.. :wink_ee:

Yes, and if anyone wants to know, SPENSER is the BOMB….

  31. 181 madaboutu Apr 21st, 2007 at 2:50 am

sexygirl………..you mean even Taylor couldn’t stop the violence? LOL

  32. 182 MaryS-NJ Apr 21st, 2007 at 7:55 am

sexygirl…you mean even Taylor couldn’t stop the violence? LOL

Taylor was not present for the brawl. But he did, in the end, have a soothing affect after the freak-on at the Beacon.

Sexygirl did valiantly attempt to keep the peace, but there were scores to be settled, and you know, a$$es to be kicked. It was a force of nature.

Read my fight recap on the Saturday thread.
