GNR’s Slash Tweets That He’s Been Asked to Mentor Rock Week, Daughtry to Debut New Single On Idol

Slash, guituarist for the bands Guns and Roses and Velvet Revolver just tweeted the following:

American Idol has asked me to do the mentor bit for Rock Week. #fb

That’s probably next week for the Top 4, as Top 3 is typically reserved for hometown visits and the judges/producers choice.

So, what do you think about rock week?   A pretty broad theme, nobody who is left should have problems finding suitable songs…

ETA: According to Paula Abdul, Natalie Cole will be performing this Wednesday for Rat Pack week.

ETA: Chris Daughtry is in LA right now, rehearsing some new songs.   Here’s what he tweeted on April 21st:

Should know this week what 1st single will be. Will let u know as soon as I know:)<

This is pure speculation, but I would not be surprised if Daughtry is the musical guest for Rock Week’s results show–a perfect opportunity for the band to debut the new single…

And, as it turns out, Daughtry WILL be debuting their new single on American Idol, according to the band’s latest VLog. Chris doesn’t specify a date, but I think Rock Week is a good bet.

Someone mentioned Slash not being a vocalist, but that’s not completely true. He isn’t the frontman, but he sang backup stuff on a lot of GnR stuff and I’m pretty sure he sang on his solo album he came out with several years ago. Also, you can find some versions of GnR songs with him singing online. He’s a brilliant guitarist and knows a lot about music in general so he’ll be a good mentor either way, but he knows plenty about singing also.

okay….I am a bad bad fan, I didn’t even know about his album that came out…????….I know about the one coming out and I went to 3 GnR concerts and never once seen Slash stand near a microphone…..guess I need to to some googling.

I can hardly wait until next week. Daughtry and Slash equals yowza! Why shouldn’t Chris be back on the show? He’s one of the true successes of Idol. And if Quentin can mentor Slash sure as hell can. SAVE THE ROCKER one more week! I’d be fine with her going out in 4th place. Both Chris and Jason went out 4th. It’s a great spot.

Love Daughtry. Love Cook. Love Adam.

That being said, why on earth would they have Cook back when they havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t had Daughtry back to perform live in a couple of years? I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait to hear his new single. Loved the first album but am sick to death of it. And, yeah, it was à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“formulaic,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but frankly so was Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s. Why canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t I love them both?

ITA, BootStar. There’s room in my heart for more than one AI “rocker”. I’m excited for Daughtry’s new single, it feels like a looooong time since he released his first album.

I could be wrong about him singing backup but I am almost positive he did some. I’m pretty sure he sings some backup on some VR stuff but again not positive. His solo album was called Slash’ Snakepit, although I was wrong to call it a solo album, it was really a band called Slash’ Snakepit.

Better details on it here…. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash’s_Snakepit

I’m really looking forward to this. I really hope Adam does a fuller version of Bohemian Rhapsody which was his audition piece, or some Guns N’ Roses or even better “Dude looks like a lady” from Aerosmith…I think he would knock that out of the park! f you listen closely to his “play that funky music” performance where the song switches keys and he sings “play that funky music” and it sounds exactly like Steven Tyler in that Aerosmith song when he says “ooh, what a funky lady”… it would fit his voice and style perfectly. I hope Allison does well, idk why ppl haven’t been voting for her, she is really talented for a 17 yo…it should be fun, but Adam and Allison have to careful not to overdo it with their performances, since the rest of them will be the underdogs ppl wont have such high expectations…just my opinion.

  • adamisthemanfan:

As a more serious, ballady type of (rock) song I think “Mother” by John Lennon would be appropriate for Adam..or maybe even Allison but Allison can sing anything, I think she’s proven that…as for Danny Gokey he should sing an Eagles song like “hotel California” or a Journey song…I think he has nice voice…love the raspiness too…he actually sounds a lot like Michael Bolton…someone suggested that Kris do a John Mayer song and I think they are totally right…Matt i have no idea, lol…

  • glamadamfan:

adamisthemanfan said “as for Danny Gokey he should sing an Eagles song like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hotel Californiaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ or a Journey song”

NOOOOOOOOO please. Danny already almost ruined Earth, Wind & Fire. Please please please do not let him ruin Journey. He does not have the range to sing Steve Perry, not even close. He’d have to take it down at least 2 steps and I can’t stand that. I don’t even like him doing an Eagles tune but he might be able to do that without taking it down. I can’t see his evangelical self doing Hotel California though. Maybe “The Best of My Love” would be more his speed.

  • kbr:

Finally a Rock week on Idol! I hope Allison makes it to this week. I wonder what their limitations will be because last year they did R&R Hall of Fame and that made it easy to riggle out of a rock song. Top 4 is when they pick 2 songs right? Adam should definitely try some GNR he has the Axle Rose scream down. Hopefully more specific info comes out…

  • adamisthemanfan:

to glamadamfan: okay well maybe Hotel California is better suited to Adam’ style but I think Gokey could redeem himself if he does the song justice, but what you say about not “seeing his evangelical self doing Hotel California” that could be true, I was make making a suggestion purely on the voice, but context wise you are right he might not risk it…idk for me his performances have been too safe and lacking in innovation…personally I think Allison deserves to compete with Adam in the finals but ppl aren’t voting for her as much, which is something that puzzles me but w/e at least she has made it this far…we shall see.

I think Allison deserves to compete with Adam in the finals but ppl arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t voting for her as much, which is something that puzzles me but w/e at least she has made it this farà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦we shall see.

I have said that I was “baffled” by the number of Alli votes a couple of times in these posts. But not really. Very little has to do with the quality of her performances. She undeniably is a prodigy, rated as best by some independent critics, probably more than any others ‘cept Adam ( but higher than him on occasion) until this last round shaping up the finals It has always been that she is a long shot to win, or rise this high in the contest. Some of reasons are understandable, but not necessarily fair or true; some are intention wrongs. blabla.

Simon says: I cannot understand why people haven’t gotten on board with you. But he does – and it’s part his fault. She hasn’t the experiences in life and hasn’t the guile of the others to put her in the best position to garner the votes needed.

She is the best entertainer to put through to Rock Week and make it an exciting event. SO:

    SAVE THE ROCKER
