Well- I just watched a recorded dvd of Kat on Leno…yeah, if I wasn’t a Kat fan I would write a bunch of snark, snark and let you hear me loudly bark….I would say it was carp and really pull it down as much as I could and worry about that single and what it would mean for her future!….BUT- I am a Kat fan and oh soooooo delusional and found it purrrrrrrfect!!!!!!!….Hey folks-Ding, Ding..I hear a winner! Hot single and hot sales ahead!..whoopeee for me as a Kat fan….anything else and and I would be so “over it”….I’m a happy man!
Ray,
i’m happy because you are happy. You make me smile:)
To all of Katharine’s fans - Happy Katharine Day.
Happy Katharine McPhee Day! It’s going to be a great day!
This performance was HORRID.
Happy Mcphee day lol
She certainly doesn’t show off her voice with that song. It’s safe and easy.
Please don’t flog me. I like this side of Kat–mainly because it looks like they are letting her sing the music she wants to sing. Her voice is perfect on the old stuff, but I don’t think she wants to sing it. So, there ya go–Urban Kat rocks.
Now if they would just let all of the idols sing the music they want to sing…grrrr…
Considering some of the things she’s been known to do with her voice when she tries to show it off, that’s probably a good thing! Seems pretty heavy on the backup singers though. She just kind of blends in with them during much of the song. It’s an ok song, it might do well.
XO, Ray, AFan, B and all the other Kat fans out there….
Happy Katharine McPhee Day!
Ditto to everything KIrsten said.
And Im here to tell you that Katherine will be HUGE! Im serious, this song is EXACTLY the type of song that is out there on the airwaves today. She will be a big success. She’s pretty and the girl can sing even if this particular song did not show off her voice.
Happy McPhee Day guys!
Okay, I only got halfway through. First time I’m hearing this song. It’s terrible. It’s generic. It’s filler. It could be anyone singing cause it sounds like the backup makes up most of the song.
And why is she only wearing a shirt? Where is the lower half of her outfit?
I love you, Ray, but there was nothing special or interesting about this song or performance.
Happy Kat day to all of her fans.
Happy Katharine McPhee Day to all her fans. I really think she will sell big, but who knows?
I thought she did well and comes across very nicely. True - song is fluff - but it will sell and she will do well. So - go for it Kat, sing & look pretty.
Happy Kat Day to Kat fans — no snark here.
Happy Katharine McPhee Day! Woohoo, finally! :)
Really looking forward to all the appearances in the next week or so.
that performance was not good.
She looks beautiful, and her voice is sweet, BUT those background singers were so loud and so high-pitched that it covered over most of Kat’s vocals. This might be because she’s always had trouble with higher pitched notes.
Pop fluff. Nothing more, nothing less. It fits right in with “today’s pop music scene”.
Kat: Pretty face. Ugly clothes. Decent voice. Boring.
The right single to have been released IMHO should have been ORDINARY WORLD. That would cross over from TOP 40 to AC and Hot AC and it is melodically, the best song in her album which showcases her vocals.
I think she’ll do very well with this song. It’s not really my type of song but I agree that it will probably be a hit and she does a good job with it. I prefer when she sings a little stronger and doesn’t hold back as much but I don’t think I’m the target audience. Happy McPhee Day!
I’m not a Kat fan–I’ll just say that outright. But still, I watched this as objectively as possible.
Kat looks gorgeous, but she should have picked a peppier song for her first single. This one is not only generic, it drags and is boring: halfway through I was wondering when “Over It” would be over. From the samples I’ve heard off her album, there were several other better songs she could have released, rather than the most soporific track.
The good thing I do have to say, though, is that Kat sounds much better when her voice is restrained, as it is here: I have no issue with her voice. It’s good that she’s decided to stick with hip-poppy music, because on big power-ballady numbers her voice had a tendency to be outmatched and veer towards the screechy at times.
I’m not big on her album’s style of music, but it is current and I have a feeling it will do well. Good luck to her!
(Also–and this is totally not Kat’s fault, but the show’s crew–is it just me or were the backup singers drowning her out at times?)
Horrendous and laughable performance.
You could substitute any cute young girl for Kat - JoJo, Rihanna, Vanessa Hudgens etc. The song is generic, but has somewhat of an earworm effect to it.
At first I thought she would bomb, but now I’m not so sure. A lot of people listen to this disposable, interchangeable type of music.
The song was pretty tame and safe. Kat’s voice sounded pretty though. She should learn to let go of the microphone and put more emotion into her performance.
Yup, tame, safe, generic - but she will probably do well with it and I wish her well. I am truly happy for all of the Kat fans. And sorry but I agree on the clothes - she really needs to do a better job of picking out something that is flattering to her. Her face looks gorgeous, then she wears a 12 year-old’s school uniform?
Very happy that it wasn’t Open Toes. Blech.

It was exactly what I thought it would be.
Rushed rehersals, band that was just put together, nervous energy, some off pitch singing (that I blame mostly on the BU singers…singing on top of Kat’s lead notes and being mixed too loudly in the monitors (saw it on Kat’s face and her tentative approach to some of the falsetto notes)).
I also expect the performances to get MUCH better very quickly, once the “newness” wears off. Talent is obviously there, just needs practice, practice, practice.
AI PTB are stuffing way too much in a small period of time for an artist like Kat. IOW, someone who (I thought anyway) embodies the AI premis…IOW, an unknown, amatuer who is taken from obscurity to stardom.
People like Taylor and Chris are working musicians and used AI to further and already established carreer….this needs to be “fixed” as far as I’m concerned…it’s an unfair advantage I think….
BTW, can we PLEASE stop using the term “Pro Tools” as if it were some magical software that makes wine out of water? I use Pro Tools on a daily basis and it is simply a method to ‘record’ music.
Certian plug-ins (Autotune) can ‘fix’ some things with the right tweaking, but there are other hardware / softwares being used to do all sorts of things to nearly EVERY major singing act on tour in the last 5 years.
Tim McGraw would be a minor league baseball player without this…amongst MANY other “acts”.
Many have commented on Kat’s lack of ‘musical direction’, but seriously, this kind of music is EXACTLY where I thought she would go…and I’m sure it’s what she “is”.
Anyone who assumed that she was going to record an album of standards is as wrong as anyone who thought Talyor was going to do a John Denver cover album (now THAT was a horrible performance)….
There’s no way she could record an album of standards the first time out. TPTB have no intention of repeating a ‘Diana DeGarmo’ with Kat. She’s doing ok…whether she’s successful at singing or not, remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: she is already a recognizable figure wherever she goes thanks to the fan magazines photographing her every move.
Well, now we have the “McPhemes.” Who said there are no more girl groups in music today?
double post
Wordpress is being wiggy with me
Happy Kat Day to all eleven of you phans out there!!
Kidding aside, congrats to the Kat fans!
Wow. That was one of the worst performances I’ve seen on a late night show in a while. We talk about the high notes she can’t hit, but how about those low notes? You can barely hear her, let alone understand what she’s singing.
Yep, I’m definitely over it.
But, with that said, I’m sure every girl in every 7th grade class across America will luv!!!111eleventy!!one11!!! this song.
What a happy day for me!
I own Kat’s album WOOT!
Top 10 on Amazon! WOOT!!
Top 5 on Itunes!
It’s a great Katharine McPhee Day!

Aieee!! No show thread?? Waah!! And I have to say - Katharine McPhee is not really my favorite. At any rate, I did my show post for the night and my fave from tonight was Chris Slighe. Anyone else really like him?
Ok. I got over the no show post thing and listened to the Leno performance.
First, as I said, not a McPhee fan here. Having said that, I think she’s much better than that performance. That song just really… sucked. It literally sounds like someone went into one of those recording booths at the amusement parks - have you ever seen those? And then out they come with a “demo”.
Really, really didn’t like the song and I really think it did her a disservice.
Yikes…..I thought this was horrible. And I was prepared to be pragmatic. Total pop trash, and she was off-key for most of it. A shame.
Have a nice day!
That’s not the performance I saw. Did someone match the track to the video? Something is really off. I doubt she’d lip sinc during Leno. At the beginning, it was hard to hear her so this just doesn’t seem like the same performance.
She is still what she was on AI5, which was bad most of the times. This one was bad. I doubt many people will pay for her voice and this kind of music, except those hard-core fans of hers.
I celebrated McBeaver day today. I put on my bumblebeaver dress spraddled a chair , got me a scruffy looking boyfriend old enough to be my father and had a pity party for myself.
Okay, that wasn’t very good. But i’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt since she’s just started promoting her single. After a few more performances i’m sure she’ll be more comfortable with the song. “Over It” was actually my favorite of all the songs on her CD .. actually it was the only one I liked enough to listen to more than once. I wonder how her CD will do on the charts.
I don’t think this song does anything to let Kat’s voice, singing skills shine. She’s better than this song and it sounds like the backup singers are singing louder than she is.
The Today show performance was worlds better than the one on Leno…mostly due to less nerves and a better mix.
Looks like she was having fun with it.
