Hollywood Update: Writer’s Strike

The Writers Guild of America’s strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers continues and could very well be ongoing when American Idol premiers in January.

Reality show writers are not part of the WGA, although the guild would like them to be. Last week, a group of strikers set up a picket line outside of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium where the Hollywood Rounds were being filmed.

If the strike continues into January and beyond, expect picketers outside of the CBS studios where Idol is filmed. FOX television’s reliance on Idol revenue in the second half of the TV season means they won’t be hurting financially nearly as much as the WGA would like.

I expect there to be many call-to-arms from WGA members and sympathizers, like this one, in the days to come.

We here at the Fans For the WGA will be encouraging you all to take some very specific actions against the season premiere of American Idol on January 15th when the time comes, assuming of course that the WGA hasn’t secured what it wants by that time.

But for now it would be cool if you people across the pond could phone call blitz Fremantle…here’s your chance to play along in the ‘phone a mogul’ campaign!

Maybe they should move the show out of the Hollywood vicinity and air it in some other area? I am sure some theatre in a Middle America community would LOVE the publicity…

Not a bad idea. If the strikers disrupt Idol’s broadcast they will have hell to pay.

I support the writers. I won’t boycott AI, though.
