I so wish David Cook had been invited to sing at the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala. A full-length “All I Really Need Is You” would be perfect. Neil, how quickly you forget!!
I realize David isn’t a Grammy nominee yet, but couldn’t they make an exception this one time for such a promising young artist, who single-handedly made Neil Diamond sound contemporary before a colossal television audience?
Which label is J-hud signed to? One of Clive’s, I presume?
Archie’s singing the National Anthem at the Pro Bowl?! SWEET! He and J-Hud just KILL that song (in a good way)!

I actually don’t love them on that song. I love that song sung straight and pure. It’s just my preference. My favorite ever singing that song was Toni Tenille. She sang with strength and purity of vocals.. She added nothing, and to me it was absolutely beautiful. I just guess I don’t see it as a song where your vocal personality has anything to do with it. I want to hear it sung note for not with not embelleshments. They really don’t impress me.

For me, as a melody alone, it’s not that impressive and sounds boring sung with nothing added to it, which I think is why you rarely hear that done. I think Archie, especially, knows how to color up a tune like that just enough without going overboard. But I’ll have to see if I can find a video of that Toni Tenille to see what you mean before I really compare them.
See, I guess you didn’t understand me. If you can tale that not so very impressive melody but oh so very impressive meaning and sing it simply and beautifully, then you have a home run. I’ve yet to hear an American Idol do so. There’s actually very few people I’ve heard do so, but when you’ve heard it, you will know. The most impressive time I’ve heard it sung was with nothing added. I think that was what made it so very impressive.
Is Florida a very large market? Why is all of the promotional effort being put into one location?
Thanks, Gingerly, your comment made me head to YouTube to do a little “Star Spangled Banner” comparisons. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any Captain and Tennile versions. The comment sections on these videos are being hit pretty hard today. Lots of debate on whose is the best and who sings it the best. Jennifer Hudson is getting a fair share of ‘best ever’.
One thing I did realize, after listening to numerous versions from many different sources, is that I was really unable to find two that were exactly alike. Even the military Choirs tended to put their own spins on the song, those singing Acapella were distinctly different from those singing with a band or orchestra.
I think it is great that this is a song that has both public and private meaning to so many…and that we live in a Country where people have the choice to sing this with their heart as well as their voice. It thrills me that we have a National Anthem that can be interpreted by so many different vocal stylings, that it lends itself to be sung to represent the singer as well as the “times” when they are singing. It can be a pleasant song, a sad song, a stirring song, a reflective song, an uplifting song. It represents young America, old America, White or Black or Red or Yellow America.
Congrats to all those who chose to sing this song “their way”. That is what has and will continue to make America GREAT.

Update from Florida!
Heeey Eerrrrbody. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m reporting from Florida today, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m having a grand time in my birth state haha. Last Saturday, both Mr. Cook and I got to perform at a corporate event for Primesource in Hollywood, Florida (Where I used to live!) I was nervous before I went on stage because it was the first time Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d done a set that long since my vocal chord paralysis issues a few years ago. I was hardly able to do 1 song after that happened, and so I was even nervous with the tour when I did 4 songs heh, just because I wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sure if my voice would be able to handle it. But I did 10 songs for the corporate event, and my voice was fine! It just made me feel really good to know how much my voice has improved since that whole weird thing. We had a lot of fun though, and Cook and his band were amazing as always. It was good to see him, because I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seen him in a while. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be fun to see more of the old gang at the Disney thing coming up in a couple of weeks. I took some pictures of Cook and his band from backstage, but theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re really lameà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. soà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not putting them up haha.

I should have looked before I asked lol. But anyway, I did look just now and found this MTV article that says that JHud is performing at the Grammys. I was just confused because I thought I’d read somewhere that she is.
