It’s funny; I read a fan’s account of meeting Archie this weekend. She said she asked him about the “Crazy” performance on Tuesday and he seemed to have no idea what she was talking about. It will be interesting to see if he actually sings it or if it was just a rumor.

The webpage for Studio5 is advertising that Archie will be performing “Crazy” on the show:

Yay! I’m interested in hearing Archie’s version of “Crazy” since it (like Jason’s version) was praised by Nigel but never aired.

I’m looking forward to hearing it too. I think it will be really different from Jason’s version and they will be equally terrific!

mj, thanks for the link. I guess either the fan or Archie was confused. Either seems likely.

When did Archie sing Crazy before? I like that song well enough but why did Archie have to sing something that Jason is already singing on the tour, right now- what is the big deal with that particular song?

This is what the fan said:

I asked him about singing “Crazy” on Tuesday, and he didn’t know about it! But he said “Ok, then! But I haven’t rehearsed it in awhile”. I told him that his fans really want to hear him sing it. He went on to explain how he sings it – he said it’s a very slow, simple version of it - nothing fancy. And we told him anything he sings is fantastic. At times he almost rambled, and I loved every moment of it.

Very weird. Here’s the link to the full fan report:

sumidol, I think Archie and Jason (and someone else?) reportedly sang this song during Hollywood and Nigel praised them all. None of them were cleared for the show. Just as Jason fans have been waiting to hear his version, so have Archie fans.

  8. 8 lefty Jul 14th, 2008 at 12:44 am

From the pre-finale “chatter” I also got the impression that Archie may have tried to get it cleared for the finale but wasn’t able to … but I never read anything to confirm that.

Oh - I see, I hadnt heard that before. I can see how they would want to hear him sing it then they way we waited for Jason. Still I just thought it was odd to come up right now. I would wait to sing it after the tour - I can just hear it now- Oh gosh Archie sang that better, no I think Jason did and so on. I think, just for now, It should be Jasons time to sing that. It would be like MJ going out and putting his spin on ABMB or Jason singing Apoligize. For now these songs should belong to whomever is singing them on the tour. There is plenty of time later for us to hear them sing these songs. That is just my thought on it. I am sure Jason doesnt mind at all and I really dont either, I bet I will like the way David sings it too. I have noticied in blog after blog and interviews that Jason and David A seem to have become pretty close friends on this tour. They are closer in age than the others and both have strong religious beliefs, I like hearing about their adventures lately.

I have noticed in blog after blog and interviews that Jason and David A seem to have become pretty close friends on this tour. They are closer in age than the others and both have strong religious beliefs, I like hearing about their adventures lately.

I have noticed this too, and had kind of been hoping that it would happen because they do seem to have a lot in common.

I’m a big Archie fan, but I would have been happy to wait until after the tour to hear Archie’s version of “Crazy.” At this point I worry about the degree of hype attached to this song. I’m sure it was wonderful, but if it’s what he describes (simple, slowed-down version) then part of the wonderfulness of it may have had more to do with Archie’s voice than with the song itself. I just hope people aren’t banking on some spectacular rearrangement if that’s not what the performance was about.

At any rate, I really think that the two versions (Archie’s and Jason’s) must be so different that they will be hard to compare. But of course that won’t stop people from trying. :rolleyes_wp:

  11. 11 pj Jul 14th, 2008 at 1:03 am

sumidol, I don’t think (hope) we’ll have to worry about fan wars for a one-time performance (if it’s even happening). Like you, I’m sure neither Jason or Archie sees it as a competition anymore. Neither are going to record it. :)

  12. 12 sumidol Jul 14th, 2008 at 1:13 am

Pj - you are right I am sure, it was just a thought

  13. 13 ianamy Jul 14th, 2008 at 1:17 am

First of all, really want to hear Jason singing Apologize.

The comparison is bound to happen. But it will always be “my guy is better than your guy” for either side. So what’s the big deal?

  14. 14 pj Jul 14th, 2008 at 1:21 am

    Sumidol, no worries. :-)

I’ve watched some of the concert vids (catching up tonight). I think I need to go back and read the Castrocopia fake testimonials because I can’t help but feel hella happy when I hear/see Jason sing.

Yep, Archie fans have been dying to hear Archie’s version of this song since Hollywood. It was supposedly one of the best auditions during the Hollywood rounds according to Nigel and Josiah Leming…

Dave: Speaking of Hollywood week and all that, we got to see almost
all of your performances. Were there any performances that you
thought were really good? Either that we saw or that we didn’t see?
That you were like, “Wow! This person is definitely going to make it.
    I love this person”?

Josiah: I really have a lot or respect for David Archuleta. The
kid’s got an amazing voice for sixteen years old. Amazing control. I
think what hurts him is he doesn’t really have a style of his own,
yet. But he’s perfect for the show. He’s “The American Idol”. He’s
very versatile. He is sixteen and he doesn’t have a style, yet, and
they will be able to put him what they think he’ll do best. I think
he definitely has the best–his voice is amazing. He did a song in
the first round of Hollywood week that I don’t think they had the
clearance to show. A lot of people did “Crazy” by Gnarles Barkley,
and I don’t think they got the clearance to show any of that. But, he
played the piano and sang it, and it was amazing. It gave me chills.
He’s the kind of singer that I can close my eyes and just listen to–
    just a pure voice.

Can’t wait to hear Archie’s version.

To echo a lot of questions about David A’s recent blog….just how did he and Jason go around town without attracting a mob? :biggrin_wp:

To echo a lot of questions about David A’s recent blog….just how did he and Jason go around town without attracting a mob?

Can’t you just imagine them in fake mustaches and cheesy sunglasses? :thumbup_tb:

Seriously, with those dreads, can Jason go anywhere without being recognized?

I know the area of Portland they were in.

On such a fine day I don’t know that Powell’s would have been very crowded. I was wondering if they had a limo drop them off discreetly at the back door. Alot of people who hang out at Powell’s aren’t necessarily AI viewers and might not have recognized the lads. Plus people are absorbed in looking for books. It’s a bit of a jungle with rows and rows of really high bookshelves everywhere. It is claimed to be the worlds largest new/used bookstore.

The Market would have been a diff story though. That place would have been packed. I’m thinking the boys were incognito with shades and hats maybe?

The mall he mentions was probably Lloyd Center mall, near the Rose Garden where they performed. It is quite a large mall and I’m really surprised they weren’t mobbed there. LOTS of teen girls there.

The streetcar is the MAX tram that they took to NW23rd which is a trendy older neighborhood with lots of funky shops, pubs, coffeehouses, cafes and interesting places to eat. LOTS of asian/thai food out here which might be a novelty for some of the Idols.

They must have had “handlers” with them…I can’t imagine them wandering about on their own.

I am thrilled to read that Rickey Smith is appearing in the Idol show in SF. He kind of went into obscurity after the tour of season 2, other than a couple of appearances here and there. Who can ever forget the loveable, Hercules, Hercules? Or his video when he got the boot? He looked so sad, and said something about the ducks loving him. That was the first time I cried when someone was eliminated. It was a double week elimination too, where they added the votes for 2 weeks due to the Corey Clark episode.

    I’ll bet he’s thrilled too.

I know what you mean about Rickey Smith, skylight. Glad to see his solo appearance listed. Maybe he still does backup too. I know he sang backup a lot with Ruben right after their AI season. I always thought Rickey left the show way too soon.

Thanks for the list of appearances and tour dates. You’re missing a couple of Carrie Underwood concerts. She’s scheduled to headline at Country Thunder in Twin Lakes WI on July 16th and at Country Jam in Eau Claire WI on July 19th. Confirmation is at her fan club site. http://www.carrieunderwood.fm/tour
