Im completely over the moon for Jason Castro and although I think he did a fantastic job with Hallelujia, Im even more excited that he turned on, so many people who maybe are not music lovers, to that classic. Im hoping that maybe what season 5 did for me re- music, this season will do for a new group of people.
Im voting my ass off, not nearly like I did season 5 but I spend a lot of time voting. Like Donna had mentioned in another thread, I think I may have peaked in season 5 but this season is just fine with me. I cant lose Jason though. I’ll be heartbroken and I love Amanda as well and Brooke and…..lol, well I have a few favs.
I’m crazy about Jason, too.
I just bought his iTunes studio version of “If I Fell”.
I clicked on mj’s link.
Never bought an iTunes in my life - my first one ever.
I heard Hallelujah in the movie Shrek. That’s where I fell in love with it. I thought Jason did a great job with it.
I am also a big fan of Jason. I told myself after season 5, that I would never get so caught up in a contestant again. Well, season 6 came around, and I stayed true to my word. I didnt care for any of them. But this season, JASON IS LOVE. I’m even doing the Itunes thing, which I have never done.
I became a fan after Daydream, loved Hallelujah and even though If I fell was not a judges favorite, I liked it. The studio version is super amazing. Jason has a great recording voice.
Although Taylor is still my all time favorite, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jason Castro - he makes me “feel” the music just like Taylor did. I had never heard Hallelujah before, but googled it right after Jason sang it and now have Jeff Buckley’s version along with Jason’s. I really enjoy adding artists to my list of favorite songs.
I also love David Cook and several of the others this year. I am glad they are focusing more on the contestants! It is a fun group this year with lots of talent.
I swore I wouldn’t vote, but I am sure I will be voting for Jsaon and David C - I caved in last year to vote for Melinda, Phil and Blake. LOL.
The American Idol Tour hasn’t been to my city (hope that changes this year) but I have been to see Kelly C (with Reba), Carrie (with Keith Urban), and am going to Bon Jovi with Daughtry in April. I also saw Bucky in a small bar here and have seen Taylor 3 times. These kids have alot of talent and I hope I get the opportunity to see more.
Like Dingo I’m over the moon with Jason. I swore that after Bo Bice that there wouldn’t be another that I would follow so closely. Well after hearing Jason and his innocent, mellow style I’m in the game again. Like another poster above I have never purchased off iTunes until this week. Sorry Bo,there is new blood in town.**blushing**did I just say that?
I hope Jason stays around for a LONG while in the show. There is a gentle sweetness about him that is so refreshing on this show of largely manufactured emotions, scripted moments, and often bombastic musical arrangments and delivery.
And he is SOOOO totally awkward in those lame group numbers, I just live to see what he will do with the “dance” moves and choreography.
Ditto Brooke.
Yep. Refreshing. The both of them.
I like Jason too, but more than that I love his musical sensibility. He is doing what I think Chris Sligh tried to do to a lesser degree and what Taylor did best, he made people think about the who’s and why’s of the music. That is only a good thing. Jason could never have sung Hallelujah if Taylor had not sung Trouble. Idol tries to negate Taylor’s influence on the show, and how the show is watched, and blogged, but they can’t. There is a definite progression imho. I just can’t crush on him as I did on Bo, or Taylor cause there’s a bad word for that sorta thing, his looks and demeanor belie his 20 years, fo sho’.
I see that I’m not the only one who was an “iTunes virgin” before this season began - and Jason’s what caused me to buy from them in the first place, all with the link from MJ’s, of course! I have all of his songs, as well as Michael John’s “Across the Universe”.
I’m in heaven. And yes, I’ll vote the solid two hours for Jason.
I took a long hiatus after Elliott and Season 5 but I’m back full throttle with Jason. He is the ‘new’ music and all the belters American Idol LOVES are so old. I like David C too but he’s too Daughtry ish!
I’m so kicked about Hallelujah’s success and will download via mj’s.
Well, I’ve always found someone to like each season since I started watching in season 4. Maybe I’m just a slut! LOL. I’ve also never lost interest in music. Of course, none of my faves have ever won, and I’m okay with that as long as the show gives them the ability to make a living doing what they love.
My faves have been Bo, Ace, Blake, and now Jason. Rock Star faves were Marty and Ryan Star. All “losers.” ;-)
ETA: The fact that Jason has accomplished what he has so far with practically no air time prior to Top 24 also highlightts his appeal.
PJ!!!!!! LOL! I’m routing hard for Jason. He is my fave. We’re a house divided on idol - Archuleta vs Castro. I dont think Jason can win it even though I’d love it if he did. But - I’ll be waiting anxiously for his music!
I see this has actually become an “I love Jason” thread. LOL! And since I, too, love Jason, I have got to put in something: I love Jason Castro! Hee. ;)
I think you nailed it: this year, it seems as though many fans are divided between golden boy Archuleta and anti-idol Castro. You pick one or the other (or neither…but not both). More than previous seasons, whoever you pick signifies what kind of an Idol-watcher you are (which bears some similarities to the Presidential race this year, no?). Who knows? I could be totally wrong on this…does anyone have them as their two favorites? It seems like it’s more common to like one of them along with another contestant (David Cook, Brooke, Carly, etc.), but again, that’s just an observation.
Throw in another contender, David Cook- a guy who is just VERY talented- and you have the exciting Season 7. Although, in my opinion, no one can bring what Taylor Hicks single-handedly brought to the show in terms of entertainment, this year’s competition is shaping up to be pretty exciting due to the diverse group dynamics.
Funny, I like both Jason and David. You see I love a good solid voice a la Kelly, Melinda, Elliott, and Ruben. But then on the other hand I love someone who brings something a little different, a little spice to the table, like Fantasia, Bo, and Taylor. So while I do have a preference, I can see the beauty in both young men. So if either of them win for me it’s all gravy. They will both cut cds and that is so exciting for me.
LOL, that this has turned into an I heart Jason thread. I couldn’t let it pass without adding my love. Count me as one of the one’s who clicked through MJ’s and bought both Castro’s “Hallelujah” as well as Jeff Buckley’s. I have also bought all of Jason’s downloads to date.
PJ, I’ve always found someone to like each season too. :) And like you, my favorite has never won. The first time ever that my favorite actually won was NGAB and The Clark Brothers. Never picked the winner on Rockstar or Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance, either (FTR, since I’ve been watching AI, my faves have been George Huff, Bo, Ace and Chris D, Blake, and now David C, Jason, and Brooke).
I like Jason a lot. The competition wouldn’t be the same without him and the breath of fresh air he brings. Same with Brooke.
I can’t say that I was an iTunes virgin because I use it all the time (actually, it was Ace who took my iTunes virginity when “Scattered” was released! ;)), but I do love that AI is making the performances available there this season. And I do love seeing what exposure on AI can do to an old song. It makes me smile.
I think you’re right on this, primeminister. Season 5 was so compelling because of the different styles of music and backstories and personalities. There were also very compelling performers and you wanted to watch each week to see what they would do.
This season is shaping up to be the same way. You have your rockers, your folkies, your divas, your country girl, your golden boy, and your classic R&B guy. And even with the people who are classified as the same style (David C and Michael, Carly and Amanda, Jason and Brooke), they are different enough that it doesn’t seem repetitive, if that makes sense. The fact that the golden boy has been slipping in recent weeks gives the appearance (even if it’s not true voting wise) that this is really becoming a wide open race. And THAT’S what’s so compelling about the show - seeing performers come from mid-pack or even the bottom of the barrel and really show that they are (excuse the Randy euphemism) “in it to win it”. Will it live up to season 5 in terms of viewership and votes? Only time will tell. But I think the producers finally got it right again in their casting.
I love little D’s voice, my favorite song for him is Another Day in Paradise then Imagine. The Itunes versions sound great. I also love his shyness and smile…I would be in heaven if he were top 2 with my other fav..Jason.. His voice is not as strong but I love hearing it, even with the failed notes..it just endears me to him more.
It also makes me happy to look at him.. I think it’s his shyness and smile too..If only one of them make top two then I would like to see David Cook up there..He is winning me over.
It’s way too early for me to pick anyone to win, even David A. I think Jason is adorable and has a nice voice and glad he’s doing well. I don’t understand the comment that he couldn’t have done Hallelujah unless Taylor had done Trouble though.
Yeah, I don’t think I get it either. I don’t understand how they are related.
I *think* the OP of that comment was trying to imply that Taylor broke ground on AI by singing something non-mainstream, therefore making it easier for those after him to do the same. I disagree. “Trouble” was getting lots of spins on my AAA station when Taylor sang it. And honestly, because I WAS familiar with the song, I didn’t care for Taylor’s version.
The previous year, Bo Bice performed the showstopping “In A Dream,” by Badlands, which was much more obscure. Loved it. Maybe if I had known the original, I wouldn’t have. Who knows? There may be examples prior to Bo, but I started watching the show in Season 4.
Anyway, I would argue that Taylor’s “Trouble” had absolutely nothing to do with Jason’s “Hallelujah.” Although I will say that considering the conflicting reports we’ve heard of how songs are selected this year, I have to believe TPTB were kind to Jason on this one. I can’t believe that song was on a list of 25-50 songs from the 80s.
I think Jason puts his own spin on every song he does and makes it his own. I also think that the background band oftentimes hurts his performance … his melody lines are better without the harmonies as they take away or mask his stylistic sound.
