Idol Bits And Pieces: Carrie Underwood, Kara DioGuardi, Ruben Studdard, Bucky Covington

Kara DioGuardi is shopping around a new reality show.   Called Dropped, Kara says it “…takes the best acts that have been dropped and gives them a second chance… I was dropped. Think about how many times in your life you haven’t achieved one goal, but you’ve achieved another one.”   Well, good luck with that, Kara. via Vulture.

Carrie Underwood will be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame tonight in Muskogee. She’ll also be performing. Tickets are still available via News OK.

Also, some lucky fans recently got to hear new tunes from Carrie’s 3rd album, Play On, set to be released November 3rd. The fans were invited to a taping of CMT’s concert series, Invitation Only. Carrie’s episode will air sometime in December. via CMT.

Ruben Studdard has co-written a song, “I’m a Fighter” to raise awareness for sickle cell disease. The song will be the anthem for Be Sickle Smart, a nationwide grass roots health-education program.   Ruben will take his message to the concert stage, with a promotional tour that begins September 19 in Memphis. Kara’s idea sounds kind of dumb. She needs to concentrate on not embarrassing herself on Idol and writing decent songs.

  • SybilTrelawney:

So, Kara’s premise is that she shouldn’t have been dropped, so she’s going to give other dumpees a second chance? And who, pray tell, is going to give the dumpees another recording contract?

Maybe she just should have called the show “Retreads.”

  • will:

Umm…Kara, hate to break it to you, but singers who have been dropped by their labels are eligible to audition for AI. Carly Smithson anyone? So your idea would put you in direct competition with AI for contestants. Seems like a conflict of interest to me.

Isn’t Bucky also going to be on “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” Or did that already happen?

  • smartcookie:

Well, Joanna Pacitti can go be first in line for Kara’s show!

I imagine it’s not about a record contract (unless Kara plans to start her own label. Or is she in A&R for somebody?) but about the exposure of a nationally televised show. Good luck with that, Kara!

I also suggest, instead of “Dropped,” she should call it “Second Chances” or something a bit more positive. I already know there will be lots of video of sobbing kiddies lamenting how they felt unloved and unwanted and like they had blown their only chance and blahblahblah weepycakes.

I’d drop *Kara* based on NoBo. Kidding! Sort of. And does that include Idol dropees or label dropees? Maybe Ellen is going to be the 3rd Idol judge when Kara goes on to more reality TV land…

    Kudos to Ruben.

You look at Katy Perry, the Jonas Brothers, Alicia Keys, and Lady Gaga, they all have one thing in common: They’ve all been dropped from their labels

The above is from the article. So, some acts that sell well all got a 2nd chance after being dropped. Sounds like a good concept to me.

While someone dropped from their record label is eligible for AI, the Jonas Bros wouldn’t have been eligible (as a group), and, uh, I don’t think that Lady Gaga would have won AI…. Hopefully, if the show is picked up, it will allow a broader format, (allow bands, and a wider range of music than AI), and it could be a very entertaining show.

No, it hasn’t happened yet, to my knowledge. I forgot the date, though. Check your listings for the show. In my area, they show it on Friday nights. He could be on tomorrow, but check your FOX affiliate just to be sure, :-0.

I don’t really like Jonas Brothers or Lady GaGa, but an American Idol season with Lady GaGa as a contestant may have easily be one of the most entertaining seasons ever. She does have quite an impressive voice, IMO. Personally, I’d think she’d have Adam Lambert’s talent for showmanship and entertaining with an arrangement and musicality skill somewhat like Kris Allen. Dunno if that would’ve gotten her really far, she does seem like the type to have some really unlucky weeks, so she might’ve even gotten cut from Hollywood.

Sorry for that, I do like the idea of 2nd chances, but for some reason Kara’s idea for a show doesn’t seem right to me. She has some weird ideas. NoBo, then this? Who knows, it might work. Be a little broader. But the last time 19 tried to broaden and use bands, it lasted for a season.

Also, there shouldn’t be an age limit. Right? I just don’t know how this will go. But yes, the name must be changed to Second Chances.

I just want Kara to concentrate on becoming a note worthy judge on American Idol.
