Idol Bits and Pieces - Dolly Parton and Her Songs Next Week, Plus the Clark Brothers!

Top 9 next week features Dolly Parton and her songs, according to FOX.  The kids will be performing only Dolly Parton songs, and I’m glad.  They’ll have an awesome pool of songs to choose from, rather than the usual ho-hum.

Totally psyched! The Clark Brothers are the musical guests for next week’s Top 9 Results Show.  They were the winners of the Next Great American Band. If you guys haven’t heard them yet, you are in for a treat. These boys are fierce. The brothers album, Walk This Way, drops in June.

American Idol Extra features special performances by Ruben Studdard and Haley Scarnato.  This week’s episode premiers tonight on the Fox Reality Channel at 7 pm.  I’ll have the highlights later this evening.

Here’s the latest Idol Gives Back update.  Celebrities slated to appear so far:

Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams join previously announced international talent and sports figures Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, Heart and Gloria Estefan.

Tickets are on sale to the general public. The event will tape at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, April 6. Check out this link for more information.

Yeah, I can hear Cookie doing something interesting with “The Bargain Store”. Very nice suggestion, cheese.

Cookie Monster…that makes me sound like I drag around a jar of cookies with me everywhere. Either that or fantard works for me. xD

Sho nuff! I can’t wait to see The Clark Bros. again.

Next weeks show feat. Dolly promises to be a knockout as there is so much material from which to draw. I’m a rocker, but will always love and remember Dolly’s music from the days of my youth. Too bad we won’t get treated to the rock/soul version of “9 to 5″ that Chikezie had planned on. I think Carly and Brooke both would do well with “Jolene”. I shudder to think what damage KFC ™ will do to a Dolly tune.

ETA: Thanks so much, CJ, for that resourceful link. I’ll be lost in there for days. :)

LOL, Hisaki…it doesn’t make me think of that at all. But I get ya.

The one song I don’t want to hear Cookie do is the White Stripes cover of Jolene. I think it’s atrocious.

I said that before, too. I might end up diving off of his bandwagon if he attempted that…or I’d be quite disappointed with him, at least.

love dolly’s duet with brad paisley.

“The one song I don’t want to hear Cookie do is the White Stripes cover of Jolene. I think it’s atrocious.”

I don’t agree that it’s atrocious (Jack White can do no wrong, for me), but David is not Jack White and will just seem kind of ridiculous if he tries it. Hopefully the combination of the girls clamoring for the song and David’s desire not to sing about a woman stealing his man in front of 25 million people will force him to make a different choice.

I keep seeing the “Shine” suggestion for Michael - is that a song Dolly wrote, or one she covered? I’m too lazy to check. If they’re allowed to songs that she covered, I think we’ll get Jolene, I Will Always Love You and a bunch of random songs only tenuously associated with Dolly.

“Shine” is a song she covered. She did a bluegrass version. It’s a Collective Soul song.

I think he’s a lot smarter than to pick “Jolene” since I can see Brooke and Carly vying for it. David seems to have the head to not perform The White Stripes’ cover version of that song, too, for that matter. Besides, any of the guys singing that song would just be plain awkward because of the lyrical content, really.

@lg - Glad I can help in some way. ;)

@cheese - I’m more a Jack Black lover than Jack White. To each their own, eh?

    @Hisaki - you’re right…the lyrics will kill it for DC. I think that’s a good thing.

Dolly should be a good mentor! I hope she will guide Jason into doing a terrific song. He REALLY needs one this week! I don’t think it will be a good idea for any of the girls to sing “I Will Always Love You.”

The Clark Brothers are definitely entertaining!

Sorry if it’s already been suggested, but I would LOVE to hear Brooke on “He’ll Come Again”…

I think Clay recorded it, but I think Brooke could smash it to pieces.

Darn, I’m so sorry I missed this thread yeasterday. I’m psyched for Dolly week as well. But I must say I can’t see anyone but Syesha going home. Is there anyone more un-country left than her? LMAO. But it will still be fun to watch, just because the material is so good. And I can’t imagine Ms. Parton being anything but a fantastic mentor!

Perez Hilton seems to have the scoop on Dolly on American Idol.

Sadly, he’s usually on the mark.

carolina, the link doesn’t work for me…

Oh, and I would love to hear Jason do Travelin’ Thru.
