Idol Contestant Had History of Stalking Paula Abdul

More on Paula Goodspeed, the ex-contestant found dead in front of Paula’s house Tuesday night:

Goodspeed’s death Tuesday night, which police suspect was a suicide, was not her first house call to Abdul’s Sherman Oaks abode.

Sources tell E! News that two or three months ago, Goodspeed tried to commit suicide by overdosing on pills outside the residence.

Abdul was not home for either incident. She was alerted to Goodspeed’s death Wednesday morning, while at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theatre taping segments for Idol’s Hollywood Week.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened,” Abdul said in a statement earlier today.

But according to sources, Abdul was well aware of Goodspeed’s obsession.

Prior to her death, Goodspeed sent Abdul several threatening letters and left her packages. Goodspeed also repeatedly tried to contact Abdul, albeit unsuccessfully.

Abdul was even alerted in recent weeks that Goodspeed may come calling, but they never met face-to-face.

On Goodspeed’s My Space page she calls Paula her “secret crush”.

I can’t lay the death of Paula Goodspeed at the feet of American Idol.   She obviously had problems long before her encounter with Randy Simon and Paula during her auditon in 2006.   I also think separating the eccentric from the truly troubled and crazy is harder than it looks.   There are those who wonder if this incident will affect how the auditions will be produced next year.

I know this: It’s going to be difficult not to speculate on who has the potential to be the next Paula Goodspeed as the parade of weirdos begins again on our TV screens come January. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

    what strange, sad circumstances.
it deff doesnt sound like “i killed myself bc i was embarrassed by my idol audition” but more like that “im going to kill myself to prove to paula how much she means to me…?” who knows.

i dont think it will affect how auditions are done next year, in fact, this will be forgotten by next week.

she did seem like a sweet girl- just a bit touched unfortunately. i hope paula never did anything that could have emotionally damaged this girl or else we might have an extra helping of drugged-out paula this year.

Someone posted yesterday that if only people that displayed talent were shown on the auditions, most of this could be avoided. I know there are some that really like seeing the nutjobs or people who just want to be on tv but for the life of me I can’t figure out why. I can’t even watch the auditions much less let my kids watch that part of the show because it’s downright cruel. Personally, I hope it does make them dial it back on the crazies (or those acting like crazies).

  • Obviously the woman that killed herself had serious problems, but I feel badly for Paula Abdul too. I have to imagine she was a bit scared herself if this woman was sending her threatening letters, leaving her packages and stalking her. To have it come to this kind of end, must really upset her. It would upset anyone.

If this makes the AI producers think twice about what they televise, that will be a good thing to come from it. They can’t change who they already put through but they can certainly edit what they show! It will be really interesting to see what they do in light of what has happened.

I said pretty much the same thing yesterday. There is a fine line between people who are really trouble to people who will do almost anything to be on television. I feel for this poor soul and feel bad for Paula Abdul, this must be difficult.

  • Duke:

    OK-

i just rewatched her audition, and the judges were really fucking mean to her. simon made fun of her braces a lot and it was meant to be hurtful. im officially over getting any enjoyment over idol making fun of bad ppl. the damage it does to these peoples lives is potentially incomprehensible. ugh. poor girl.

    AND

i think the girl does NOT have mental problems. she is just weird.

  • abbysee:

I think anyone who purposely kills themselves and stalks people has mental problems…..I don’t think her mental problems were idol related. Simon is mean to almost everyone and so far this is the first suicide, I think.

I do wish that they would stop the horrible audtions, but for some reason people eat that shit up. If it weren’t for the glimpses of the people who are good, I wouldn’t watch. Maybe I will address that this coming season. See you at Hollywood week?

  • I can hardly watch the crazies audition, they are sometimes too painful to watch. I wouldnt mind those going away at all. I think this will hopefully stop the blatant meaness of some of the remarks, it is unecessary to critique their weight or their braces, the shape of their eyes for instance – that guy Simon called some kind of animal? This girl though obviously had some serious issues and the blame for her death should not be placed on Idol. If it had not been them it would have been something else to set her off on her path of destruction.

I will see you at Hollywood week for sure Abbysee!
