Paula Abdul: ‘Idol’ Comment ‘Out of Context’
Moments before walking out live on the “American Idol” stage tonight, Paula Abdul told “The Insider” exclusively that a published quote of hers regarding additional “Idol” judges was “taken completely out of context.”
“It is unfortunate that a quote of mine was taken completely out of context today,” says Paula. “I was actually referring specifically to the use of ‘guest judges’ in seasons past, NOT Kara [DioGuardi] or this season. I am thrilled to have her by my side each week on ‘American Idol.’”

‘DWTS” Mark Ballas Dating ‘Idol’ Contestant
“Dancing with the Stars” performer Mark Ballas opens up to ET about his romance with former “American Idol” contestant Joanna Pacitti.
“We’ve been together for awhile. I am the happiest I have ever been.” Mark tells ET of his relationship with Joanna. “She is so supportive. She is so fun.”
The two met when Ballas was training Kristi Yamaguchi on season six of “DWTS.” Prior to his relationship with Joanna, Mark was seeing his former dance partner Sabrina Bryan of the Cheetah Girls.
The couple was just spotted at the world premiere of the ‘Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.’
Is Norman Gentle à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idol’sà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ next Sanjaya?
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s” second semifinal was a little better than the first, as the nerves didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem as obvious and the bad performances werenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t quite as terrible. That will leave a lot of the singers who donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make the finals a little bitter that they were placed in a group without the weak links that were apparent the first week.
Ironically, some of those who faltered were ones who started with an edge. With a couple of exceptions, the judgesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ favorites didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get it done on Tuesday night, and have to hope that they made enough fans in the early weeks to compensate.
Voice guru trains ‘Idol’ contestant
When Bob Westbrook watches “American Idol” tonight, only one voice will matter to him — the voice that he has carefully groomed to win a recording contract.
As vocal coaches go, Westbrook is something of a guru in the Mid-South. The singers who seek him out are looking for a music career or, at least, are ambitious enough to pay $60 to $115 an hour for lessons.
Jasmine Murray, 17, a native of Columbus, Miss., is one of them.

Phil Stacey Blog: A rough night for Round Two
Alsioniraheta0225250 Coming into tonightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s “American Idol” broadcast, I was eager to see Matt Giraud and, of course, find out what Norman Gentle would end up doing. But an hour into the program, I was a little bored and felt bad for all the contestants. In my opinion, it was an utterly forgettable night.
However, as my job here is to give you my input as a former contestant, I would like to rant a little on something. There is a claim that the “American Idol” process reflects that of the real industry. But tonight, which I would like to dub as “night of wrong song choices,” “Idol” was anything but reflective of the industry.
Rushfield Review: the semifinal frontier
It must be said that this has been one of the bumpier preseasons in “American Idol” history. The seat-belt sign has long since been lighted on a run featuring Bikini Girl madness, Tatiana hysterics, a joke contestant making past Hollywood, a new judge, no clear front-runner, a new format with rules that remain mysterious, one expulsion and a couple of weeks of very uneven singing.
But are we so PR-sensitive that we have been conditioned to believe all of the above is bad when, in fact, looking at it from the flip side, those are a lot of conversation starters for a show in its eighth season to put forth into the world, and the fact that all of those topics have dominated chatter for the last few weeks’ shows how much the juggernaut remains the dominant force on the pop cultural scene.

Megan recently began receiving hundreds of support cards from members of Utah based SendOutCards.com, a company she and her family have been closely involved with for years. Touched by such an overwhelming response, Megan shortly found herself on the phone with the group helping to spearhead a fundraising effort for single parent programs like the national non-profit, Parents Without Partners Inc.

REVIEW: David Archuleta at The National
Sometimes, it’s not so bad to come in second.
And it certainly doesn’t hurt if you’re a tiny teen idol with puppy dog eyes and hair begging to be ruffled.
The angelic David Archuleta might have lost last season’s “American Idol” to sultry rocker David Cook. But don’t forget Archuleta still nabbed about 44 percent of 97 million votes, so obviously, the kid has a rabid following.
About 1,500 of the devout jammed The National tonight during Archuleta’s sold-out show — the second date of his first headlining tour. Though the 18-year-old crooner bopped on stage about 30 minutes later than planned after dealing with inflamed vocal cords backstage, the restless crowd was instantly forgiving at the first glimpse of his sneakered feet and the opening notes of “Touch My Hand.”
David Cook: “Don’t try to be, just be…”
Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hard to believe that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been a year since we first met David Cook. But if you think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hard for us to believe, think what ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like for David himself.
Several times during our conversation, when I asked him about his experiences, he used the word, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“amazingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and I could almost see him shaking his head in disbelief through the phoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ especially when I told him that the tickets to the Shawnee State University concert Friday night sold out in less than five hours.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re really looking forward to you coming here,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I told him.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Well, I am looking forward to coming there,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ he told me. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s amazing.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

ROCKER HAS KEPT COMPANY WITH EVERYONE FROM LYNYRD SKYNYRD TO MICKEY MOUSE EX-’IDOL’ CONTESTANT BO BICE STAYING BUSY
If Bo Bice were a novel, you’d likely be hooked after breezing through the first few pages.
Since placing second behind Carrie Underwood in the fourth season of “American Idol,” Bice has continued to inscribe the pages of a promising musical and personal journey.
Among his proudest chapters is being a great dad to his sons, Aidan, 3, and Caleb, 6 months.
“My son [Aidan] now thinks I’m cool because I got to hang out with Goofy and Mickey Mouse,” said Bice in a phone interview from Nashville. “Only after I met Mickey did he think that,” he laughed.

Injured Jewel Worried About Dancing Future
Could Jewelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Dancing future be over before the competition even begins?
With the premiere of Dancing with the Stars less than two weeks away, the singer has already been sidelined with this seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first injury.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I guess I really over did it on the rehearsal front!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ the singer wrote on her blog (in an entry titled The Beeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Knee) posted on Wednesday. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My knees have been hurting so badly that I finally broke down and talked to [husband Ty Murray] knee doctor yesterday.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
And the prognosis wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t good: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He said I have tendonitis in my knees and that I have to start a course of medicine to try and bring the swelling down,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she writes.

The couple spoke to Hollywood Scoop this week about their plans for the big day.

Review: ‘Grease’ in Tucson lacks energy, attitude
Then there was Taylor Hicks, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“America Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ winner and Teen Angel in this production. He gets top billing, which must annoy the others to no end à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Hicks sings only one song, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Beauty School Dropout.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
But he hams it up beautifully, shows off his voice and brings some distinct delight to a kinda tired production. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s something thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s endearingly geeky about Hicks, so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hard not to like him.
Hicksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ entrance à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ from a giant soft ice cream cone à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ drew cheers from the audience, as did his surprise à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ after the curtain call, he performed a song from his new album, coming out March 10.
‘American Idol’ recap: There Will Be Blood
It may not be as overtly violent as the death-matches portrayed in the 1985 classic Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, but there’s a certain brutality to the structure of American Idol’s semifinals this season. As a dozen contenders take the stage each performance night à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ some hinting that they might be future singing superstars, others betraying the fact that they can’t hack the pressure of appearing before a televised audience of 25 million à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I’ve been half-expecting Tina Turner’s Aunty Entity to pop out from behind Paula’s massive weave and repurpose the movie’s ”Two men enter, one man leaves!” tagline into, ”Twelve singers enter! Three singers advance!”

Oh…. Forgot about it… Spencer if you are lurking have fun tonight friend… be careful with your knee…
That is for me the big problem with this new format. It seems to drag out Hollywood Week to the breaking point; I don’t feel the “real” show has started yet because we are still going thru all of these semi-finalists, many of whom just don’t have the chops for one reason or another, so it’s painful, and yet we’re in the live show setting. I have a hard time keeping my interest up right now but I’m sure all that will kick in once we have our final group.
“Seeing that video of DC makes me yearn for the talent of S7.
I see this sentiment a lot, but I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s too early to say that.”
No, I assure you I will feel that way no matter how this season plays out. I hope they whittle it down to the calibur of talent that S7 provided, but whether they do or not, I’m so put off by the blatant pimping and forced manipulation by TPTB that I’m struggling to watch and remain excited for the top 12.
I’m not sure what good it does to look back to any of the previous seasons. Every season there are good and not so great in the top 12. I think once this all shakes down there will be a good mix.
I agree that the judges seemed better last night except for some of Paula’s nonsense. I don’t know what purpose bringing Kara in was supposed to serve but I do like her way more than Paula.
I`ll fully admit that I may be more cynical than some, but I thought last year featured a lot of OTT pimping and manipulation as well. It was about this time last year when I was sourly remarking that if they producers wanted to pimp Archie so much, why don`t they just add his picture to the list of Idol winners in the opening credits.
This year, there are 36 contestants and I think we`ve at least heard most of them (except for Ricky (boo!) and Jeanine (thank goodness! One night was enough)), whereas we hadn`t heard a peep from many of the contestants last year (e.g. Luke, Jason Castro, Jason Y and Garett) and there were only 24 contestants.
This year, they have to spread the pimpage around a bit to get the top 12 they want. Each week features a new set of 2 or 3 pimpees. Last year, they only had 2 or 3 pimpees at a time because only the really low hanging fruit got picked off each week.
This year, they actually get to sing what they want. Last year, they manipulated things by only having fifty songs per week. The producer`s pets were assured of having songs they could sing on that list, but the others were not. Now, it seems that everybody has free reign to pick a song and they are sadly proving Nigel right (he said he had to restrict song choices because the contestants were bad at picking).
So, I see this year may actually have had a bit of an improvement on the pimping-manipulation front. In any event, it`s been happening since Season 1. Still, I don`t like this semi-final format. I like to watch the Idols grow. I don`t like the `Big Bang` style of chosing the finalists.
Was this posted???
Did the Producers of American Idol Accidentally Buy This Idiot Another Week on Televison?
OH NO! Say it isn’t so. I was sure it was his singing *eyes roll*
This new format is making the semis nearly as unbearable as the auditions. In the past, I loved the semis. Now, I can’t wait til their over.
If they manage to assemble a decent Top 12, I think there’s still hope for his season.
I don’t mind the new format as it used to be this way and it was fine then.
But 36 is too many. Why should we get to know 36 people when 2/3 of them will not be in the finals? It’s a waste of time. There should be 24. They could do three groups of 8 instead of 12, and make the show an hour. Then it wouldn’t drag so much. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I HATE this format for the same reasons stated above and can’t wait until we get to the Top 12, which will definately not be the best of the top 36 but hopefully most of them will be decent.
I think Kara actually said something useful last night, but I can’t remember what it was. =\
I guess they just thought Kara would make a good story for the media and add some credibility to the panel. Maybe they are finally giving us the Original Song Week so many of us have been begging for? Kara would help with that, at least.

Wow, what a great video and song. I love it and have to listen to it over and over. There’s a couple of other versions on You-tube that have the unbelievable lighting effect at the end. I love him… this vlog is gold…. this was hillarious :lol_tb:… and Kendra is really prety… anybody knows how old is she? maybe I can ship her with Archie :tongue_wink_ee:
Hilarious vlog. It’s been too long. Kendra is pretty and I’m glad David’s already made friends with her.
He’s really very self-effacing. I don’t know that I’ve ever known anyone else who can be so positive and driven and so self-critical at the same time. He should give himself a break.
Yeah. It’s like he sees the best in everyone except himself. Which isn’t all that uncommon, really, but it’s still startling to see it from a young guy who’s in the limelight.
Okay, why does David talking about things made with recycled poo just make me LMAO? He’s so funny, and sweet. Cruzceleste, ship to your hearts content. Who know, he might like older women? She is pretty…..
