‘American Idol’ finalist Casey James lands dream job opening for Sugarland

GRAND RAPIDS — When he was 14 years old, Casey James grabbed a guitar and has not let go since.

“I didn’t think of it as practicing my guitar, ” the 28-year-old said in a phone interview from Little Rock, Ark., where he was preparing to take the stage for the first time as Sugarland’s opening act. “I just always had it in my hands; I literally never dropped it.”

The guitarist and singer will open for Sugarland on the March leg of their Incredible Machine Tour, which stops Thursday at Van Andel Arena.

Gokey to perform at Dodge County Fair

Danny Gokey, who finished third during the 8th season of American Idol, will be the Main Stage Performer at the Dodge County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 20, fair officials announced Friday.

Gokey, from Milwaukee, is a country music performer who released his first post-American Idol single, “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me, ” in 2009. His first album, My Best Days, was released in 2010, and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard chart. A second Gokey album is expected sometime in 2011.

Gokey joins Rodney Atkins on Wednesday, Luke Bryan on Thursday and Joan Jett on Friday as grandstand acts at the Dodge County Fair.

Taylor Hicks to perform May 1 during closing night of 2011 Panoply

Huntsville, AL – The Soul Patrol should be out and force at the final evening of this year’s Panoply Arts Festival in Big Spring International Park.

You remember those folks, right? They followed and are still loyal to 2006 “American Idol” Taylor Hicks of Birmingham, along with thousands others. Hicks, who spent a summer in Huntsville growing up, is the closing act of the 30th Anniversary Panoply Celebration on May 1. He will perform from 6:30-8 p.m.

The festival runs from April 29-May 1. Advance tickets are available at all North Alabama Regions Bank branches. Daily admission is $5 and weekend Panopasses are $10 for admission to all activities all weekend. Children 12 & under are free.

Idol in Identity Mixup

Boston-based singer-songwriter Casey Abrams, 36, a well-known player on the New England indie and jazz circuits, has suddenly experienced the trials of national fame. Unfortunately, it’s not his.

He shares his name with the bearded, upright-bass-playing “American Idol” contestant from Idyllwild, Calif., who’s on the fast track to winning this year’s competition.

“There’s a lot of confusion going on, ” Abrams tells The Post. “My third record [‘Oh, You Kid!’] just got released, I’m getting reviews and the press are putting up pictures of the ‘Idol’ contestant. TMZ has my bio alongside his photo. Even my Wikipedia page mentions ‘American Idol.’ ”

Mancow and Simon Cowell Hit it Off

Talk Radio Network-FM’s and Dial-Global’s Erich “Mancow” Muller visited with Simon Cowell, host of the new FOX show, X-Factor. On The Mancow Experience, Cowell said, Mancow is “more interesting, and more important” than him, which is why he was not chosen to co-host American Idol. The Mancow Experience features entertainment news and guests, from TV, music, and movies.

During the segment, Mancow asked Simon Cowell about his video audition for co-host of American Idol, which he sent to him nine years ago. Cowell said Mancow was “more interesting and more important” than him, and continued by saying, “I never work with anyone whose more interesting than me, I’m being serious. No, no, no, I’m serious, I never work with anyone better looking or more interesting – it’s in my contract. I’ll send you my contract, you have to go through a focus group, if people think you are uglier than me then you get to work on the show.”

Fox Pushes Premiere of ‘Terra Nova’ to Fall; Cancels May Preview

Fox has scrapped plans to preview its new epic family adventure series Terra Nova in May and will now launch its series premiere in fall, Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company, announced Friday.

“Terra Nova is one of the most ambitious television series ever produced, ” Reilly said in a statement. “The cutting-edge visual effects used to create the world of Terra Nova, which is of massive scope and scale, require more time to be realized. This aspect of the series is essential, so we are pushing back the special early preview date to give the visual effects team the time needed for their ground-breaking work.”

Because of this schedule change, The Chicago Code will now air its season finale on Monday, May 23 at 9 p.m. and Glee’s Season 2 ender will air Tuesday, May 24 at 9 p.m.
