I can’t stand hip hop anymore. It used to be my favorite genre but now all they talk about is girls and getting money. so useless :/

Oh and I heard 1 of the other albums is a christmas album! If thats true the best schedule would be:

1: release zero gravity as a single soon (next couple of months I’m thinking may when David gets back from Asia and England, and the Philippines)
2: go on summer tour and promote on tour
3: pic another song or songs off album to promote
4: release christmas CD in November (it wouldnt take very long for David to do record a Christmas CD)
5: release new CD summer of 2010

-OR-

Getting some HAC airplay in a transitional period in preparation for a new album down the road doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make one a HAC artist. Miley Cyrus is currently #28 on the HAC chart. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think that will hurt her teen queen reputation. Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s songs get HAC airplay?

The Climb is also doing very well on CHR, as did Jordin’s songs, as did Crush. They’re not Hot AC songs, they’re CHR songs that happen to also be doing pretty well on Hot AC. Plus, #28 on Hot AC is what–550 spins? It’s a small format.

I agree with that. Crush was released to Hot AC wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it, because Crush was #1 on VH1 for a long time? That was huge exposure.

And it was also released to CHR. CHR was the primary, Hot AC was the secondary. As others have speculated, Jive may not want the secondary if it’s not getting the primary–at least not at this point in his career. Maybe down the line after he grabs the key younger fan base.

Besides, he’s hardly absent. He’s managed to stay in the press and in blogs. That may not sell albums, but Hot AC doesn’t really sell albums all that well either.

Maybe Jive doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to even set a HAC precedent. They know CHRà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what they market best. It wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be in Jiveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interest to market an 18 year old kid as a HAC artist, IMO.

after already making a video, at least a Hot AC add would have likely landed it on VH1, where I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t doubt it wouldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve shot to the top of the chart and stayed there thanks to the fans. That exposure couldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve helped with buzz and facilitated CHR spins as well.

Just speculating, of course.

I get that Jive wants a superstar and the fast way to get there is through CHR, but right now you have a situation where Archie has gotten very little airplay for a long stretch of time, and HAC could have helped with that gap a little until a new album is ready and a new single chosen.

But again … speculation.

I really don’t see anyone using this as a sole excuse. There are always a few reasons that a song doesn’t make it. If you haven’t noticed the change in your top 40 then maybe you are in one of the lucky areas’s that hasn’t conformed as much. Both of the stations I listened to have and I’m not happy about it especially since I don’t have a cd player atm.

BTW, not all CHR stations are created equal. While the majority of them are going uptempo and dancy, there are a few that are still Hot AC-leaning. My CHR is a Hot AC-leaning CHR. They play more uptempo dance/rhythmic stuff now than they used to, but they still play stuff like 3 Doors Down and Eric Hutchinson. And yes, they play ALTNOY. Believe me when I say that there are a lot of fans that wish Jive hadn’t pulled that Hot AC add date. It’s not that ALTNOY doesn’t fit Hot AC. I think we’re just trying to speculate as to why Jive decided not to go that route. They’ve been around the block a lot longer than we have and have all the information that we don’t. It’s really easy to question a decision when you have limited information.

If Jive gives him another chance and he gets a hit single, he will likely outsell Kellieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first album. If he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t, then odds are he wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. Idol fans can only buy so many units. After that, you have to have a good CD and some hits.

I don’t think she would have come close to outselling him. His biggest problem is that Itunes has become much bigger now, so he’s probably got a few hundred thousand casual fans out there who decided to only purchase Crush– and maybe cherry-pick a few other tracks from the album– that a couple years ago would have just bought the whole CD.

And I’m sorry, …whatever its causes– are competing on a level playing field as those who released before it. About twenty albums total went platinum in 2008. It used to be that any album even worth mentioning (commercially-speaking) went platinum. But, there’s a reason that people are saying that “gold is the new platinum” and “platinum is the new triple-platinum”.

I think its way too soon to call over on Kelly.

I’m not calling over on her. I’m saying I don’t think she will get to 2X platinum. The blogger I linked to questioned, indirectly, whether she’d even go platinum. But, in so saying, even he isn’t calling over on her. Gold is the new platinum, remember?

So where do people like Sara Barielles, John Mayer and Jason Mraz, Natasha bedingfield get played these days? Maybe JIVE shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be aiming for top 40, if it has changed so much.

I agree with this. I don’t think it can be used as an excuse that ALTNOY didn’t do well because top 40 has changed (in some people’s opinions, I still don’t buy it…and I listen to top 40 all the time). Artists and labels have to judge the current market all the time. If top 40 was changing, then Jive should have recognized that and changed their plan. They seemed to do the opposite. Instead of impacting to Hot AC, they got rid of the impact date and left ALTNOY to flail on top 40. Now ALTNOY seems to be entering the Hot AC top 50. But I agree, it is all speculation and we will never ever know what really happened.

So Jive would rather bury this album and make a whole new one tailor-made to the suckitude CHR changed into (hopefully before it changes again), rather than try HAC?

CHR is a far bigger format, and kids and teens listen to CHR. Huge stars are made through CHR, not Hot AC. Jason Mraz and John Mayer are considered to have a lot of mainstream success because of their CHR hits, not their Hot AC hits. If Jive wants a big star, they go CHR. They may not have wanted to spend the dough to promote solely to Hot AC. He’s 18 years old and he has many years to go Hot AC. Once he’s established on CHR, he can move singles around formats depending on the type of song.

Though I am kinda worried about what he might sing on idol… no clue whats going on with that..

He seems to love “Zero Gravity”. I have heard that JIVE isn’t planning to make it into a single. I hope that isn’t true. I think it is a great song, but hopefully they know what they are doing.
