Idol Headlines for 05/27/09
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Winner Kris Allen on Rocking Softly, Covering Dylan
People say youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“soft rockà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ guy on the show.
Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nice to hear à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rock.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ People call Coldplay soft rock, and theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re amazing. For me, all the stuff that I did on the show, I feel like were pretty conducive to what Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to do on an album, that pop-rock kind of thing.
“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Adam Lambert on Sexing Up Johnny Cash and Getting on His Soapbox
What is your goal? What do you want for your career?
I want to make records. I want to be an entertainer, you know. I want to help people escape and just dance and have a great time and party and love each other, and I want to be able to raise awareness on a couple of things. You know, soapbox about it. Maybe pushing peoples buttons for a little bit. Always with a little wink at the audience with a little camp. With a little seriousness in it, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to take myself too seriously. I want to upset people, I want to make people think, I want to keep people interested.
IDOL’s Adam Lambert talks Kiss, Queen, and big, pink elephants.
American Idol’s Adam Lambert talkes about his time performing with Kiss, praise from Queen, the ‘Gokey Vote’, and how he’s been dealing with a certain burning question.

AT&T Accused Of Aiding Kris Allenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Victory
AT&T, one of the biggest sponsors of American Idol, may have played a role in Kris Allenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s victory over Adam Lambert according to a new report in the New York Times. The paper says that the phone company distributed cell phones with free text messaging and taught Allen fans how to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“cast blocks of votesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ at two parties in the singerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s native Arkansas. AT&T is the only mobile provider that allows users to cast American Idol votes via text message.
American Idol Runner-Up Adam Lambert In NYC
MyFoxNY.com – Adam Lambert says he didn’t “lose” American Idol : He just didn’t win!
Lambert is in New York City making the media rounds and talked with Fox 5’s Anne Craig.
She asked him about being the “weird kid” at school, what he likes about New York and life after American Idol.

Adam Lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Album Will Be Fusion Fierce
Adam Lambert smiles and waves at fans as he performs live in front of a large crowd for the CBS Early Show in NYC on Tuesday (May 26).
The 27-year-old American Idol runner-up recently shared his plans to record: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Labels tend to try to put one box around every artist and keep them in one genre, but I think [my album] can be a collection of different styles. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to do one specific genre. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m more about fusion. There are a lot of pop artists that are using the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹glamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ kind of vibe in their music currently so I think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m actually part of a wave. There just happens to not be many guys doing it right now.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
Why Adam Lambert shouldn’t join Queen
Kris Allen may have won American Idol, but most of the buzz following Wednesday’s finale seems to have centered on Adam Lambert’s future plans.
After all, Kris’ path is set, to a certain degree. He’s the Idol. He’s got the coronation single. He’ll close the tour. And people who watched the show have a decent idea — or at least they think they do — of how his original music is going to sound.
Adam Lambert keen on Queen, but he won’t rock only
NEW YORK à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Will he, will he rock you? Adam Lambert won’t rule out a stint as the new frontman of Queen, but don’t let that fool you into thinking the American Idol runner-up will make his living on the classic rock station.
The legendary band has expressed interest in employing his formidable vocal skills, and Lambert is a big fan of the group once fronted by the late Freddie Mercury.
But the 27-year-old California native says he’d feel torn about joining the band. The former theater actor says he has ambitious plans for his post-Idol debut album, calling it a kind of “rock-pop-electronic-dance thing.”
He says he wants to be produced “in a very very current, almost futuristic, way.”
Kris and Adam in Media Mayhem
Kris Allen was named “American Idol” last week, but he and runner-up Adam Lambert are still busy with interviews in the Big Apple!
Allen happily posed for pictures after his appearance on “Live with Regis and Kelly.” Adam will also stop by “Regis and Kelly” this week, but first he performed on the “Early Show.”
2 girls had questions, Gokey had answers
Hope you don’t mind, I told Danny Gokey, but I brought two random 12-year-old girls to do my interviewing for me.
No problem, he said in that easygoing Milwaukee way that America fell hard for on “American Idol.”
Sure, I probably could have thunk up some questions, but I was more interested in what Casey Tutton and Tricia Nelsen would ask. I like the show OK, but they’re the ones who Sharpied Gokey’s name on their foreheads and stood on trash cans to see over the huge crowd when he performed at the Summerfest grounds.
‘Idol’ winner Clarkson is a Susan Boyle fan
HONG KONG (AP) à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ From one talent show contestant to another: well done.
Kelly Clarkson, the winner of the debut season of “American Idol” in 2002, says she’s a fan of surprise British singing star Susan Boyle, adding to a growing number of celebrity admirers that already include Oprah Winfrey and Demi Moore.
Boyle, the 47-year-old church volunteer with a powerful voice, overcame a dowdy image to become an Internet sensation after her performance on the talent show “Britain’s Got Talent” was posted on YouTube.
“I think it’s awesome. I’m bawling whenever I hear her sing,” Clarkson told The Associated Press in Hong Kong, saying Boyle’s rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables” sounded beautiful.
Kris Allen vs. Susan Boyle: Who Is the Ultimate Amateur ‘Idol’?
With à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as popular as it is, one might assume that last week’s winner Kris Allen would be the biggest amateur singer in the world right now.
But British singing sensation Susan Boyle of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Britainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Got Talentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ fame is giving him a run for his money.
A Google search for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Kris Allenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ yields almost 9 million results, but a search for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Susan Boyleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ yields more than double Allenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s numbers, with about 24 million results.
Diana DeGarmo Supports Troops, Has Her Identity Stolen
Diana DeGarmo was piped at the post by Fantasia Barrino during the third season of “American Idol,” but the first runner-up is making her mark by making music for the troops, inspired by her visit as the youngest celeb ever to perform for our men and women in Iraq.
“We spent NYE in Saddam Husseinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s palace in Baghdad, then not even eight hours after we left there was a mortar attack, so as we were going through Germany they asked us if weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d mind going to the hospital and seeing the men, some that were hurt in the mortar attack were already there,” DeGarmo reminisced to Pop Tarts in an exclusive interview.
David Archuleta Returns to Utah For Charity Donation
SALT LAKE CITY – David Archuleta, the season seven runner-up on American Idol, returned to Utah on Tuesday to present a check to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Archuleta worked with Cypress Credit Union, who helped raise some of the funds for the check. He said the society is especially close to his heart because he has a lot of friends that struggle with MS.
FOX 13’s Brett Benson interviewed Archuleta and also asked him about his future music career plans. Before arriving in Utah Saturday, he performed in the UK and also in the Phillipines with American Idol winner David Cook. Archuleta said the Phillipines show sold over 52,000 tickets and thousands more outside watched the concert. He also attended the American Idol finale.
David Cook: ‘I’m Excited Not To Be The Newbie Anymore’
I have always said that I don’t vote for any of the contestants on “American Idol” unless they’re Kelly Clarkson — well, that all changed in season seven of “American Idol” when David Cook rocked my world, and yours, by reworking classics like “Hello” and “Billie Jean” to embrace his rock flair.
I dialed Idol many a time, cementing his victory (it was all me) over Kewpie doll David Archuleta. Now, almost one year later, David is busier than ever — headlining his first tour, playing sold-out shows almost nightly. I caught up with David during a brief stop over in NYC to talk about this year’s finale, what the last 365 days have been like and I discovered what single decision David believes would’ve caused him to lose “American Idol”!
Cook sells out at Midland
Megan Bolen, of Newark, will be seated in the second row, center stage Thursday night to see David Cook in his sold-out Midland Theatre performance. By the end of August, she will have heard him sing in person 10 times since he won the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ competition just a year ago.
Bolen said she never followed the popular television show until last season, when she got wrapped up in Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s raspy, alternative-rock sound. She began calling in her votes and also joined his official fan club.
A fresh start Former reality show contestant plans LS concert
The 2009 season of Americaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s biggest singing competition may be over, but for Greenwood native and top 36 finalist, Von Smith, things have just begun.
Smith has been trying to break into the music industry for years à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been pretty successful. In early 2007, Smith posted a video of himself singing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“And Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m Telling You,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ from the musical à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dreamgirlsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to the then-little known Web site, You Tube.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Dancingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ winner Shawn Johnson is no à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢
Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s one offer à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dancing With the Starsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ winner Shawn Johnson will not be entertaining in her post-show career: singing on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I met Randy Jackson, and he asked me to sing on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹American Idol,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she told Us magazine. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I was like, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Um, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll stick to dancing.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
Whether she sticks to gymnastics remains to be seen. Since Johnson took home the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dancingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ trophy, sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been offered book and movie deals, but is on the fence about competing in the 2012 London Olympics.

Is the Adam Idolatry interview up? I wanted to see it and i cant see it.I thought it was up today.
I’ve been waiting for Idolatry as well…
Heres a bunch of videos of Kelly performing in Hong Kong

I hope Adam hasn’t said this. Sounds anti-Christian.

Nice interview with Kris at OK Magazine
Aww he’s become good friends with Chris Daughtry. Now that’s someone I’d certainly follow advice from.
I would love an electro-pop-rock album from Adam (some of my faves musically are The Presets, The Faint, Ladytron, Patrick Wolf), but I know it’s not everybody’s cuppa. Still, while not being huge, even the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs new song has a dance-rock sound, so it’s current. Sam Sparro has a mix of funk-dance-rock-pop, so fusion is out there. It’s just about how it will appeal to the masses. I think it can, if done right — rockier Gaga. Adam doesn’t have to work to appeal to the non-Adam fans on AI, but the non-AI fans who buy music.
Anyway, I love that the pink elephant comment. It was very witty.

THey post about David A on their celeb ambassador team for stand up 2 cancer
I liked that interview from OK.They really opened him up.I didnt know he had a tumor and got his rib removed lol.
As far as the quote from Adam saying Kris was the first Christian he’s met that didn’t judge him- I wish I could remember where I saw it, too. I recall that it was not said in a public interview, but as a private comment to Kris’ dad, thanking him for raising his boy right. As a Christian myself, I didn’t take it as anti-christian at all, but rather as an honest statement of his personal experience. I wept.
I really don’t make much of these things, but I thought purple was the symbolic gay color? When I think of pink as a symbol, I think of Breast Cancer. But then why should the Gay community have a color? There is no need for put-downs. Maybe there is a color for everyone under one umbrella? You know, maybe red, white, and blue.
I’ve looked high and low, and I can’t find the link for the broadway interview from last night. Anyone have the link handy?
Like Paula said to Anoop. Real men real pink! :cool1_tb:
I agree though. Labels are so 1950’s. We need to grow up from this narrow-minded way of thinking.
Awww at Kris/Chris! Chris is such a fanboy and it’s so cool that they’re talking a lot now and have grown to be good friends. I can totally see Chris helping Kris out by introducing him to his network of friends in the music biz. Heck, maybe even a songwriting collabo!
Calliope, I think I love you!
I’m already excited about the concept. Bring it on Adam! Zero by YYY is crazy good. I just hope RCA can handle this. I think Modular Records would’ve been perfect for him. I think he could do the Cut Copy or Junior Boys vibe too and Jamie Lidell also.
So, I guess he’s going for the peeps over at Elbo.ws and Hype Machine or the younger demos.
Here it is:

Adam seems a little too sensible to have said something so dumb. I’m sure a large chunk of the other Idol contestants were probably Christian (whether or not they are actively practicing Christianity doesn’t matter)…is he saying that they were all judging him? And last I checked, being gay and being Christian were not mutually exclusive . So either Adam was misquoted or he’s using some kind of rigid definition of the word “Christian”. I’m inclined to believe the former.

hmm failing to load my comments… theres another vid uploaded at the link with 2 more coming. 7 in all
He puts on shutter shades in the latest one.
never mind
There’s an excellent video interview of Chris Daughtry here. He talks about making his marriage, being starstruck, loving Twitter, and the upcoming album. There’s also a blog on that page that says Chris showed up a day early for his interview, lol. http://www.myfox8.com/entertainment/music/wghp-chris-daughtry-interview,0,1010087.story
I’m not surprised that Chris Daughtry has talked to Kris. He and his wife really liked him.
