Abdul tape on internet

….The AP was attempting Friday to reach a publicist for Abdul.

In a statement posted Thursday on TMZ, the singer-dancer said she was “deeply hurt and extremely disappointed” that the call went public.

“This is not only illegal but also highly unethical,” Abdul said. “While I don’t feel a need to justify or explain my conversation, even as a public figure I do feel my privacy has been violated and find this action to be unacceptable.”…

Pop idol Si snaps up Elvis rights

POP Idol creator Simon Fuller yesterday agreed a £657million deal to take control of the image rights to music’s ultimate icon — Elvis Presley.

The 47-year-old headmaster’s son is to buy US firm CKX, which also owns rights to boxing legend Muhammad Ali and manages Hollywood stars like Billy Crystal, Robin Williams and Woody Allen.

Mr Fuller, who manages David and Victoria Beckham and has a £450million fortune, sold his management company 19 to CKX two years ago.

CKX owns the rights to the Pop Idol and American Idol formats created by Mr Fuller — and manages the stars he nurtured, including supermodel Claudia Schiffer and the Spice Girls….

5,812 votes for Jordin

Our family has been following Jordin Sparks since we first saw her perform during a Friday night kids’ talent show at Mr. Lucky’s, alongside my own grandchildren. Jordin was a cheerful, vivacious 12-year-old who was kind enough to give this great-grandma a debut CD.

We all just knew she would be famous! Her voice was amazing and she had a great personality. During these last few months on American Idol, I am proud to say that I voted 5,812 times. Yes, I kept count!

Amid all the negativity that our young people see day in and day out, Jordin brings a breath of fresh air to old and young alike. We are all proud of you, Jordin, and we hope The Republic will continue bringing us coverage on our idol!

Classic Clip: CANNIBAL CORPSE Hits German Version Of ‘American Idol’

A video clip of a death metal fan auditioning for the German “American Idol”-style singing contest TV show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (”DSDS”) with a unique rendition of the CANNIBAL CORPSE classic “I Will Kill You” is available for viewing at YouTube.

As previously reported, a hilarious video clip of a black metal fan performing the NAGLFAR track “The Brimstone Gate” on the Austrian TV show “Starmania” can be found at this location. The lyrics to the song are as follows:

…I have seen the most beautiful light
Since my birth it’s been possessing my mind
I’ve lashed myself, I have opened my veins
Cursed my blood in grief
As a shadow of death, the reaper from the tales of past
I’ve been lurking in the shades of Thy creation…

…”I don’t think there is any historical parallel,” said Tim Riley, author of Tell Me Why, a song-by-song take on the band. “When the Beatles were out there, I don’t think there was anything like it. The things that come closest only illustrate that. Star Wars sort of hinted at it. Today, what’s going on with American Idol is similar. It’s like everyone knows, everyone’s in on this story. . . . But it doesn’t even come close to what was going on with the Beatles.”

The music was central, of course. But the excitement went beyond the songs…

Young crowd reveres ‘Idol’

Imagine, if you will, a combination of elements from “Bye, Bye Birdie,” “A Chorus Line,” “Fame,” “The Breakfast Club” and “High School Musical” - with a higher quotient of sexual humor.

Further imagine such elements mixing in a story on the social effects of Clay Aiken and you pretty much have a fix on “Idol: The Musical.”

The work, with music and lyrics by Jon Balcourt and book and lyrics by Bill Boland, from a concept by producer Todd Ellis, had a first performance Friday before a highly reactive and appreciative crowd.

“Idol” is about an improbable group of high school seniors, evidently bound together by their worshipful devotion to “American Idol” second season second-placer Clay Aiken….

I have a hunch that Jordin’s idea of being an inspiration to young girls - I think her being an inspiration will be short lived as a whole anyways - will not include looking like a Maxim wannabe.

    *cough*cough*

    http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o136/Shain2003/VEGASMCPHEE2d.jpg

I’m having a hard time understanding what is so wrong with these pictures. Katharine looks gorgeous in them, and Vegas magazine asked her to be their cover girl. What is the big deal?

And I still don’t quite know what is so wrong about Maxim magazine, Kat could be on the cover of that magazine in a second if she wanted to, almost every female celebrity has, it’s a mag about sexy women, and much more, why would this be such a bad thing if she were in it?

I just don’t get what the big deal is.

  2. 52 Lisa B Jun 2nd, 2007 at 2:20 pm

The problem is and was she was targeting the pre teen.

  4. 54 db Jun 2nd, 2007 at 2:33 pm

I just don’t get what the big deal is.

Firstly, it’s snark. Kat lends herself to such snarky comments very, very easily.

Secondly, I personally do not find Maxim covers or Kat’s Vegas pictures sexy - my definition of “sexy” does not include provocative and trashy.

My point was merely to differentiate between Jordin and Kat’s idea of being an inspiration to young girls - and to snark on Kat. ;). Plus, I don’t believe that being on the cover of Maxim is a healthy aspiration for young girls. In this regard, I hope such photos don’t inspire a young girl somewhere to follow in Kat’s footsteps.

    ETA:

I don’t think her pre-teen fans are going to be scarred by these pictures.

The point isn’t being scarred, it’s the potential for emulation that bothers me most, especially if you’ve set yourself up an an inspiration for young girls.

  5. 55 Nanny Mcphee Jun 2nd, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Kat has legions of fans, young and old. Everyone has an opinion and that’s fine, I just don’t see any problem with her pictures, not all of them are seductive. I don’t think her pre-teen fans are going to be scarred by these pictures.

Anyway there is no way for me to make a point here, but I love all of these pictures, and I hope she keeps on with the modeling, she really looks fabulous.

I don’t think Kat is “targeting” anyone in particular either, she’s just trying to sing and make people happy.

You should watch her new video blog she made for her fans, it’s really sweet.

  6. 56 star Jun 2nd, 2007 at 2:39 pm

This is sorta old, but I think it’s worth posting - Kat picks her nose, DAUGHTRY’s forehead is blindingly shiny, and Adam Levine calls Blake a hustler. It’s pretty awesome.

  7. 57 Lisa B Jun 2nd, 2007 at 2:40 pm

I don’t think her pre-teen fans are going to be scarred by these pictures.

You may not but their parents may think so, children grow up far too soon as it is without copying the provocative poses and manners that Katharine displays at photo opportunities.

  8. 58 Nanny Mcphee Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:01 pm

Well I am not a mother, so maybe that’s why I don’t get what the problem is. I would hope young girls wouldn’t be looking at Vegas magazine anyway, but if so I honestly don’t think they would be like, “Oh look it’s Katharine, I want to look like that and pose like that.” I mean it’s a picture, I don’t think kids these days are that stupid. But then again I’m a very liberal person, and probably just don’t think the way that you all do.

I do however strongly disagree that her pictures are trashy, she might look provocative in them, but she does not look trashy at all. She looks amazing. I realize a lot of this is Kat snark, and I’m used to that and I’m sure it’s great fun, but I don’t think you are giving kids enough credit in this situation. I think they are smarter than looking at a magazine cover and saying oh I want to be like that. It’s just pictures, not real life.

  9. 59 radname Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:05 pm

If kids are going to be turned by a simple photograph on a magazine that’s only featured in vegas, i hate to see what happens when they turn on the television and are subjected to rap videos, the pussycat dolls, haleys legs, csi and they’re “every woman wears a low cut top when wearing” objective.
Katharine is not the only one wearing “suggestive” attire, or posing “provactively”. Judging by some of the comments here you’d think ever other entertainer is Jesus and Katharine is poor poor Mary Magdalene.

  16. 66 Lisa B Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:14 pm

I never said there was anything wrong with Katharine’s pictures it all depends on the market she’s trying to sell herself to.

  17. 67 jpfan Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:14 pm

I think this started out as will Jordin be a good role model. Jordin is very cute but not”sexy.” Her Christian background and committment to virginity will keep her from any racy photo shoots.I just can’t see them “sexing” her up. Kat is very beautiful and I’m assuming will keep the glamorous photo shoots going. To be honest, that’s about the only reason the media is still interested in her.

  18. 68 Lisa B Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:15 pm

Yeah..he’s never worn clothes that ever show off his body.

Star, thanks for that video. I hadn’t seen it before. The Maroon 5 bit was funny. I wonder if it was a similar situation with Blake and them as Taylor and Ray L. :lol_tb:

My problem with Katharine is that she suffered from an eating disorder caused by poor body image and now she is projecting an image that is difficult for most girls to ever obtain. What kind of message is that? And yes, she’s being marketed to those girls.

What does that have to do with Ace?

  20. 70 Nanny Mcphee Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:26 pm

To be honest, that’s about the only reason the media is still interested in her.

I don’t think this is true at all. She is about to release her album in Europe and Australia, she’s singing at the White House and the Special Olympics, all things that she was asked to do, she has more radio concerts, she has a new video coming out and the Good Morning America concert series, anyway I could go on and on, but I won’t.

The media is not just interested in her glamorous photo shoots. IMO.

What does that have to do with Ace?

Nothing. Radname was just pointing out a double standard, when it comes to being provocative. I don’t think she meant any harm, and this is not a fan war at all. I just don’t think there is anything wrong with Kat’s pictures that’s all. Katharine had an eating disorder, she doesn’t anymore, I for one think that makes her a positive role model.

To each his/her own though, this is a battle that is useless for me to even fight. Considering everyone already has their minds made up about this whole thing.

    So I’m done.

    Peace Everyone.

Don’t turn this into a fan war. The answer to someone snarking on or criticizing your Idol is NOT pointing out other Idols.

    ETA: Nevermind, I have to re-think that…

With my posts i’m not trying to turn it into a fan war, i’m trying to explain that Katharine is not the only person in the whole world, or to come from Idol that has dressed up sexy, or shown off her body. I don’t think what she is doing, or what Ace does is wrong at all.

My problem with Katharine is that she suffered from an eating disorder caused by poor body image and now she is projecting an image that is difficult for most girls to ever obtain.

Except she talks about her disorder and explains why she had it and what she did to get better. Having a better relationship with food, being happy with who she is etc.

  26. 76 db Jun 2nd, 2007 at 3:52 pm

Well I am not a mother, so maybe that’s why I don’t get what the problem is.
    […]
I do however strongly disagree that her pictures are trashy, she might look provocative in them, but she does not look trashy at all.

It’s not a matter of age. I’m not a mother either; I’m actually only a few months older than Kat, and I’m still of the opinion that she looks provocative and trashy in those pics. We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. :)

Katharine is not the only one wearing “suggestive” attire, or posing “provactively”. Judging by some of the comments here you’d think ever other entertainer is Jesus and Katharine is poor poor Mary Magdalene.

That’s not really the point. I’m of the belief that just because the majority of people are doing something does not make that something right. It’s a fallacy to assume that.

Actually Ace has been very careful to be considered child friendly ever since he started his journey on AI.

I believe that pic is pre Idol.

I’m 99% sure that the picture is pre-AI. As Lisa succinctly noted, the issue at hand is behavior post-AI.

My problem with Katharine is that she suffered from an eating disorder caused by poor body image and now she is projecting an image that is difficult for most girls to ever obtain. What kind of message is that? And yes, she’s being marketed to those girls.

    I heart PJ.

ETA: Just to be clear, I’m not trying to rehash or perpetuate the discussion. I came back from brunch and missed all the action, which is why my response is a bit ill-timed now that things have died down. My apologies.

  27. 77 Sarah Jun 2nd, 2007 at 4:08 pm

Yes, since you can be “cured” from eating disorders, or any other disorder for that matter. 99% of the time eating disorders are caused by not thinking you are skinny enough or pretty enough or whatever, and you’re ALWAYS going to have that problem with self-image. You cannot be cured from that.

I just have to say this about Ace. When we were at that ice cream party, he sang Father Figure but made a point of saying that he would change it up a little since there some “young fans” there. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated and admired him for that since I was there with my 9 and 6 year old who, incidentally, now adore Ace - just like their mom. He is tops in my book. I don’t care if his cd sounds like a cat in heat (not that I think it would) - I’m still buying it to support him. He’s a beautiful person - outside but, most importantly, inside too.

But I do agree with those who note the discrepancy between her battle against bulimia and the fact that her marketing is at least 50% “look how hot she is!” And no, she may not be the only one sending a poor message to young girls, but the “everyone else is doing it” argument doesn’t make it right. And yes, Katharine may have fans of all ages, but I don’t think there’s really a question that her current image is marketed toward younger girls, the VERY youngest of whom may be getting the mistaken impression that you can become bulimic to lose weight and then stop, because hey, Katharine got “cured!” So much emphasis was put on her “…and now I’m totally healthy!” instead of the struggle that she very probably really went through, that it probably did come across as though she started puking to lose pounds, and stopped when she looked in the mirror and saw a bombshell. That’s not what really happened, of course, and I just hope that these girls have parents who are able to help them separate fantasy from reality. That doesn’t mean Kat should stop posing for sexy pictures, but it is something she should consider.

For me, the snarkworthy thing is that a year ago, she very emphatically stated that she’d NEVER do Maxim or FHM…unless her career was going downhill. Although I’m sure she meant that last part as a joke, it’s still amusing to me that in every picture I see of her, her hemline is just a little bit shorter, her legs are just a little more exposed, her breasts just a little more prominent, but it’s all being done in a “classy” way. To me, there’s absolutely no difference between the legs-in-the-air pose and a Maxim cover shoot, but hey, that’s me. She should do what she wants, but I hope she doesn’t start trying to draw false distinctions by playing the “classy” card.

Speaking of Ace, he’s performing this weekend at the Brea Summerfest. Last night there was apparently some beatboxing during one of his songs. Not sure if it was him or someone else. LOL.

Anyway, Andreas Carlsson posted this comment to Ace’s myspace.

What’s up my friend!Love the songs, can’t get them out of my head..Sweden’s next!

I’m started to get exited about his album after all this waiting!

Please don’t post photos here unless you have permission from the owner. I just deleted a post because I got a complaint.

Okay. This probably isn’t the right place but why didn’t TWOP give the Season 6 contestants the funny titles. You know like Chris- the song remains the same. :(

Oops - not about the headlines; I’ll take it to chat later on.

Very clever and perhaps too close for comfort as far as American Idol contestants as well…

Couldn’t watch the German death metal vids but not regretting that at all. The day I like that shi*t, I will certifiably crazy. However, some metal is actually good and I do think metal has become more mainstream. Maybe an idea for an AI theme. Hey, it does take a mighty powerful vocalist to deliver those songs. And nothing beats a power chord :smile1_tb:

I hope Paula Abdul nails the scoundrel who leaked the convo to the NYP. Is nothing sacred?

Happy for Lakisha, wished I lived nearer to Flint, the June 9th date should be a blast.

Ace :wub_tb: His hair looks shorter and it suits him very well. Johnny Depp, move over. (Thanks db/lisab)

Btw, for Depp fans, he’s on the current cover of the Rolling Stone with Keith Richards :) and looking mighty fine. Keith, bless his heart, but love the dude.

ETA: Hope Ace realizes some decent sales. Anxious to hear his stuff. The way things have been going, he’ll prolly outsell Taylor :)

But, I heart Taylor Hicks. The first CD sucked large (IMO) but next time around, a different producer, some more “brass with ass” in the soul tunes, more rock & blues, maybe a ‘lil country thrown in…yeeeahhh. Hope Al “Boogie” Carty remains as the bassist.

I got very excited when I read Andreas Carlsson’s comment, too, PJ. I can’t wait for the album.

Speaking of the Brea Summerfest, Ace even performed a minute of Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In the Wall. The man never ceases to amaze me. He can sing R&B and he can sing the classic rock songs very well.

I can’t entirely blame Kat for wanting to play up her sultry side, but I think there is a difference between her pics and Ace’s pecs, I mean pic. Ace is great-looking, but I always say that his demeanor is anti-sex. Even when he poses shirtless, I don’t get the “hey baby” vibe from him so much as the “Hi! I’m Ace! In this picture I have no shirt on! Wanna get some ice cream later?” vibe.

Hey Schmanda - I wanna get some ice cream! How ’bout you?
