Okay, this next item falls under the rumors and speculation stage, but, uh, when has that nit-pickin’ crapola ever stopped me? Like I’m gunnin’ for a Pulitzer here, or somethin’? My breathless boob-tube type insists Paula and Randy are in very preliminary talks to do their own show, separate from Simon Cowell. Reps for both Paula and Randy have not responded as of yet, but if this bailing biz were indeed true, it’d bring up some interesting questions, to say the least:

I think she (Kelly) made the right choice to sing something else, and her version of Up to the Mountain was just fantastic.

Kelly was exquisite and captivating on the AI finale.

Re: Daughtry. I question nothing his handlers do. They have been spot-on perfect in making the right decisions for his career so far. I don’t get his popularity and never will, but I certainly applaud the way he has been promoted so far. Not one misstep, in my view.

    griz Jun 8th, 2007 at 2:44 pm

Is it my imagination, or is the buzz surrounding Jordin Sparks almost non-existant since the finale, except for her weight issues?

I think it is simply the continuation of what was a less-than-exciting year and a less-than-exciting winner. That is my take on it, at least. Not much to buzz about during the show and not much to buzz about now that it is over.

  6. 56 radname Jun 8th, 2007 at 3:43 pm

wow, full Sober version is even better then the radio edit, theres a lot of good songs on the cd, but my favourite are Irvine (very indie type of feel, catpower/fiest like) Chivas (bonus song) is just acoustic guitar that holds a lot of soul in it.
I really like this cd, definatly not as mainstream although there are a lot of radio friendly songs on the cd.

Kelly was exquisite and captivating on the AI finale.

I agree she sounded great on the finale as well. And I actually like Never Again quite a bit too but I think the other song worked better in the context of the Idol Gives Back show (and this way I got to hear both :)).

  11. 61 sexygirl Jun 8th, 2007 at 4:46 pm

While it now seems inevitable, no rocker or 4th place finisher has ever come out of Idol a success. (I don’t think Bo Bice is currently viewed as a success.) .

Maybe it’s just me but I think it’s a bit much to believe that if you’re not successful within the year of your AI tenor you career is over. Jennifer Hudson must be thankful for her good fortune. She must have been seen as a hasbeen by the time she received her break..LOL

Also, I don’t see why Chris finishing in forth place and being successful is so surprising. I know AI like their success stories to come from the winners so it can fit their story of creating a “superstar” but anyone of those contestants can go on to be a success story regardless of where they finished in the show. After all it’s just a show. The only downside, and that’s AI fault, is the feeling that if someone outside of the winner can be a success story then why waste your time trying to win..

  12. 62 radname Jun 8th, 2007 at 4:49 pm

sexygirl I think the key word there was COME OUT OF IDOL, not 4 years after appearing on the show all of a sudden catch a big break and become famous.
The only rockers on the show so far are Chris, Bo and Constantine (ew). I don’t see the last two ever being bigger than Chris.
Oh Canadian Idol started up here and for a competition that prides itself on finding unique singers (read: not very good) they’ve found about 4-5 Chris Daughtry sound alikes. And one sound alike/look alike. I don’t enjoy Nicklebacks music so I don’t want to be surrounded by copycats. (For the record, I like Chris’ voice, not necessarily the type of music he’s making at the moment.)

No, it is hilarious. I can’t believe that I cared, but I wanted that girl back in jail.

  18. 68 db Jun 8th, 2007 at 7:21 pm

Another leak, this time from JHud. Courtesy of ONTD. Personally, I’m not too thrilled with the song. It feels very cookie-cutter. The song contains a bit of language, so if there are small children around, you may not want the sound turned up too loud. My apologies if I’m overstepping any bounds by posting this link here. If so, please feel free to delete.

Also, I ran across a mention of the AI finale’s Sgt. Pepper’s Medley in EW’s review of “Instant Karma” as I flipped through the mag this afternoon. It actually made me chuckle, because I quite liked the medley, but as they say, to each their own:

Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur

Maybe it’s too soon to release a John Lennon tribute, with the horrors of May 23 still fresh in our minds. Beatles fans haven’t fully recovered from that night’s American Idol finale salute to Sgt. Pepper — an assault that saw Taylor Hicks turning ”A Day in the Life” into a Michael Bolton ballad. Amid this lingering posttraumatic stress comes Instant Karma, a charity project that finds superstars and cult artists tackling Lennon’s personal, peace-mongering, hard-to-cover solo canon.

LOL, you’re not the only one. However, this is great publicity for her, and I’m sick of seeing her face on the TV screen. While I was at the gym today, a random guy stopped in his tracks to watch the news, which was non-stop coverage of the Paris saga. Before he walked off, he shouted at the TV, “Enough already!!” Made me laugh.

Given what Blake had to say in that US Weekly interview about Paris and Lilo, it should be interesting. :laugh_tb:

re: Beatles fans haven’t fully recovered from that night’s American Idol finale salute to Sgt. Pepper — an assault that saw Taylor Hicks turning ”A Day in the Life” into a Michael Bolton ballad

The more EW writes reviews the more things stay the same. They mock Taylor’s rendition of the song, and then when you look at the comments below the article, you have a slew of responders who vent their anger on the writer ( many even canceling their Entertainment Weekly subscriptions on the spot ).

I guess this is going to be a constant in the career of Taylor Hicks. He will be slammed and slammed by critics in their internet articles and they will in turn face the wrath of fans.

What fans of Taylor don’t realize is that the writer is an equal opportunity mocker who DISLIKED what everyone did with Sgt. Peppers on the show (including Green Day’s version ).
