Scotty McCreery Talks Fans, Faith & Post-‘Idol’ Fame

How familiar are you with the Nashville songwriting community? Did any of the names on those demos stand out to you?

Rhett Akins and the Peach Pickers (Rhett, Ben Hayslip and Dallas Davidson) are throwing some songs my way. It’s so cool that those guys who’ve written such big hits are trying to get me to sing their songs … I’m honored and flattered. And I’m loving all of them!

Lauren Alaina Is Living the American (Idol) Dream

Do you remember the first song you ever wrote?

Yes, my uncle’s wife had a car wreck and was in the hospital, so I wrote a song and sang it to her. My mom keeps them all, and my handwriting was horrible! You can tell I was a little kid.

How often do you write?

I write as much as I can, but I’ve been really busy lately, so I’ve got to get back into it. I want to write with Taylor Swift! But I think that’s kind of impossible. Bakersfield viewers can judge for themselves when Mallory appears on the Fox dance competition Wednesday. She’s reached the show’s Top 20 lineup already and will face celebrity judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and other guest judges in Los Angeles.

“We’re supposed to be in there showing emotion for people who can barely sing and are treating the whole thing as a joke, ” Julia, 15, said as she headed for the exit of the Bank United Center after hearing just eight or 10 of the 80 or so contestants for Fox’s new spinoff of American Idol.
