At the end of the new Kelly Clarkson album it finally arrives: a song worth all the fuss. It’s called “Irvine,” and it’s a gentle prayer, sweetened by a strummed guitar, a ghostly hint of pedal steel and (every now and then) a digitized string section. Her voice breathy and soft, the edges rounded by vibrato, Ms. Clarkson beseeches the Almighty: “Are you there watching me?/As I lie here on this floor.”
And after the events of the last few weeks one half-expects a booming reply: “This is Clive Davis. Yes, I’m here. Now get up…….

Clarkson was right in making ‘Breakaway’ from Clive’s formula
Clive Davis is an old fogy.
And for once the record company Svengali was wrong: Kelly Clarkson did well.
Hearing that the almighty RCA Music Group mogul panned Clarkson’s “My December” for lacking commercial appeal immediately makes the “American Idol”’s sophomore CD a juicier study.
Unfortunately, Davis’ words have already done enough damage: The first single, “Never Again,” has already tanked as far as radio play goes. It’s a shame, really, since it’s a powerhouse song.
And now Clarkson has canceled (or, as her desperate publicists are spinning it, “postponed”) her summer tour.
But maybe Clarkson isn’t meant for arenas. Perhaps her aspiration is to make creatively satisfying music - and the hell with everything else.
A “Breakaway” indeed…….

meme………….OMG it is so stupid! All the local news is about how there are blocks cordoned off around her house and the neighbors can’t park on their own streets. She won’t even go home. They said that someone had come to the house and got her pets, so I know she is going over to her folks place or out of town somewhere.

LOL. Well, it did do better than the previous two years (and I don’t think this season will beat any of those three seasons on compilation album sales).
The only point I was trying to make is that downloads of tracks appear to have been higher last year even though there was a physical compilation CD for sale to compete with it (we haven’t seen any numbers for this year’s CDs and tracks though, but that isn’t a good sign).
It doesn’t mean that this year’s Idols won’t do well, but it does mean that AI should probably mix things up in the sales department. I’m sure a lot of AI fans aren’t even aware that the compilation CD was available for sale on iTunes.
Here is an interview with all the Idols about the tour. They don’t reveal much about the tour, but Blake has been burning the midnight hour recording his album and Jordin is doing something with a couple of songs for her album.
I’m very sorry to have to report this, but nobody has managed to burn Blake’s ugly hat yet.
