Summerfest Sound Bites – Danny Gokey Answers Your Questions and More

Wednesday also brought Milwaukee homeboy Danny Gokey back from Nashville. Alison Sherwood interviewed him for Tap where she asked the Gokester some questions from his loyal fans and Tap Milwaukee followers, including thoughts on acting (fun fact: Gokey appeared in a TV movie recently) and how he’s gotten so buff (causing Gokey to do some bashful blushing). I also talked to Gokey the other day and asked a couple fan questions.

Lauren Alaina Discusses Recent Weight Loss

Lauren Alaina is looking as beautiful as ever, something the teen and ‘American Idol’ runner-up addresses in a new video interview with Yahoo, which took place at the rehearsals for the just-started American Idols Live tour. Alaina admits she has been working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and that it’s not the pace or the stress of the show that caused her to drop some pounds.

She revealed she is on a delivery diet, where she gets a bag of good-for-you food every morning. “I have had some things that are not personally what I would choose to eat, but it’s trial and error,” the singer said about adapting and adjusting to the dietary fare.

‘The X Factor’: Simon Cowell Produced, Will Star in Three-Minute World Premiere Clip to Air During All-Star Game (Exclusive)

Fox Sports originally had two plans to integrate Simon Cowell’s upcoming singing competition series The X Factor during next week’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game, including a half-hour national preview and a three-minute movie trailer promo.

“We wanted to create a national lead-in to the All-Star Game,” Fox Sports president Eric Shanks tells The Hollywood Reporter. However, since production is still under way on the fall series, Fox will broadcast a three-minute world premiere promo that was produced by Cowell and filmed over two days in Miami and Los Angeles.

‘Glee’ will enter these six episodes in Emmy race for best comedy series

One-hour comedies have a tough time at the Emmys. Only “Glee,” “Ugly Betty,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Ally McBeal” have been nominated for best series in recent years. “Ally” won in 1999, first at the Golden Globes, then at the Emmys. “Glee” has won the Golden Globe as best comedy series for the last two years and was voted best comedy ensemble at SAG in 2010, but it lost to “Modern Family” at the Emmys in 2010. Can it finally prevail in 2011?

Live at So You Think You Can Dance! An Injury, an Elopement and the Domination Man

“My foot, the muscle is swollen,” Mitchell told us. “It swelled up and I was like, ‘Oh my God’ I couldn’t put my weight on it. Tonight, Robert Roldan had his outfit on [to fill in for me] and I was just sitting there looking at all the other dancers and I thought, ‘Wait, I can do this. I can do this.’ Looking at Caitlynn I wanted it so bad. In rehearsal I could feel [the injury]. Then I went to bed the night before the show and when I woke up I couldn’t even stand on my foot.”

Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell have “agreed to patch things up”

An insider told Heat magazine:“Cheryl and Simon had a long conversation and they’ve agreed to patch things up. Simon had texted Cheryl numerous times with no reply and Cheryl finally called him and broke down about everything that had happened.

“She admitted that she was very bitter and took a lot of it out on him. It was a very emotional chat, and at one point she just broke down crying and even apologise for all the embarrassment it had caused.”

I love the joy all over in that video of Carrie with the ACM Lifting Lives campers.

Heads up to Scotty and Lauren fans: the new Country Weekly has a feature interview with them from CMA Fest in the new print edition with Sara Evans on the cover. They went to lunch with Ken Tucker on the day of the CMT Awards and basically talked about their experiences so far and a little bit of AI. I didn’t spot any new information but it’s a nice article with new quotes.

David Cook, Nigel Lythgoe & Mary Murphy appear on The Talk 2 pm CBS

I don’t know squat about this show, or if David will be doing any ‘talking’ on the Talk to whomever are the hosts – But I expect there will be youtube shortly after it ends.

I hope the WordNerds edit – because that’s like a Poison Pill, puttin’ Nigel on the same show – I ignore him as much as possible! Mary Murphy is one of the dance show people, Right? Don’t watch those either.

Lookin’ at all this Daytime TV I never watch, just because David is on. *shakes head ruefully*

I don’t know squat about this show, or if David will be doing any ‘talking’ on the Talk to whomever are the hosts

The hosts of The Talk are Julie Chen, Sharon Osborne, Sara Gilbert, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini. They will definitely be “talking” to David. He may perform as well. Adam was on in February when he did some Grammy promo. They chatted with him and then played a game with some of his fans called “The Silence of the Lambert”. It was a fun show even though he didn’t perform. I believe though that Adam was the only guest when he appeared.

  • Incipit

Hey, thanks for the intel, Dakota01! I even recognize a couple of those names. I think. *snerk*

Just saw a tweet from Andy Skib about the show – and kvetching about the hour. Heh. Looks like it will be David, Neal and Andy, The DNA.

Kyle Peek, David’s drummer, tweets about painting w/Monty instead – I’ll bet the two of them are finishing painting the nursery for Kyle’s expected little girl, today.

I wonder why it’s only DNA? Acoustic gigs, David usually only brings Neal.

I have no idea about this show but it sounds awful and potentially entertaining :). I hope DNA get to chat. It’s been nice seeing Andy and Neal interviewed for the Walmart Soundcheck and for the behind-the-scenes/making-of video for TLM.

I have no idea about this show but it sounds awful and potentially entertaining.

It’s similar to The View, where the ladies talk about a topic or two before the guests are on. Adam was on the remainder of the show. To give you an idea of what the show is like, here is Pt 1:

Wow, wow, WOW: ‘News Of The World’ Folding; Hacking Scandal Brings It Down

“This Sunday’s News Of The World will be the last ever issue of the tabloid,” James Murdoch, deputy chief operating officer of News Corp., just announced.

The tabloid — Britain’s biggest — has been coming under increasing attack because of the scandal over how investigators it hired hacked into the phones of murder victims, celebrities, politicians and relatives of those killed and injured in the 2005 London bombings. Investigators say they are contacting thousands of potential hacking victims.

  • BootStar

I wonder if this isn’t pre-emptive to shut down other investigations and ensure other deals aren’t interfered with. He could have simply fired a bunch of folks.

I’m not sure that would have been enough. This has huge implications for Murdoch and his holdings. From the New York Times today:

Still, the closure underscored the damage to Rupert Murdoch and his vast and powerful media company from allegations that its paper was involved in hacking cellphones belonging to not only a 13-year-old murder victim but also relatives of fallen soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and that it paid police bribes amounting to tens of thousands of dollars for information.

On Wednesday, a member of Parliament also raised allegations that nine years ago, News of the World had participated in efforts to disrupt a murder investigation, as the members collectively turned on Mr. Murdoch, t tabloid culture he represents, using a debate about the widening phone hacking scandal to denounce reporting tactics by newspapers once seen as too politically influential to challenge.

The scandal had been taking a toll on the News Corporation, with stock prices falling and new questions about Mr. Murdoch’s proposed $12 billion takeover of the pay-television company British Sky Broadcasting. Many legislators have now criticized the deal and any government decision already appeared unlikely to be made before the end of the summer..

Nick Jonas is in Chicago to promote a singing competition and told the Tribune that the two songs he wrote with Lee are for Lee’s next album:

Since Lee has no events on his calendar past July, could RCA be rushing him back into the studio for another album?

  • larc

I was thinking RCA is waiting for Lee to finish his tour to fire him. But maybe money from Idol/19 that winners get for a second album would be enough to entice them to go for it. If they do, I hope they are prepared for much lower sales than on Lee’s first RCA album unless he somehow pulls off a miracle.

  • girlygirl

well, Lee’s next album doesn’t necessarily have to be for RCA. And most songwriters pile up a bunch of songs before they head into the recording studio (see David Cook & Kris Allen for 2 examples), so this doesn’t mean Lee will be recording another album anytime soon. I suppose he could do this, but I’m just taking Jonas’s statement in meaning they wrote the songs for Lee to record — not to try and place with another artist.

  • girlygirl

Meanwhile, is there anyone who has more trouble with flights and airports than Kris does? He tweeted that he was stuck on the 405 and might miss his flight. He always seems to have some issue flying from one place to another. :)

19 doesn’t pay RCA to produce records. RCA pays for the licese to the music.

I think there are a lot of myths that surround the idol contracts. For example, a lot of people seem to think that a lot of the winners no longer have their deals, but only Ruben and Taylor are no longer with Sony, and while Taylor was released, Sony fulfilled their contract with Ruben. There used to be another myth that when RCA wanted to hurry up and get out of their contract with an idol alum that they would make them record a Christmas album, but this isn’t totally true either.

CaseyJ. will be performing on Jul 16th at the Craven Country Jamboree in Saskatchewan, Canada. Billed as the “World’s Greatest Country Music Festival,” this event is the longest running multi-day music festival in Canada. Casey will be going on stage at 1:00 PM. Sugarland will be closing out that night’s line up.
This date is the second in Canada , he is opening for sugarland on 7/15 Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta . :)

  • Tess

I may be a tad slow but doesn’t a recording contract work in the favor of the label, ie: The artist owes the label x amount of albums if the company wants them…and in many instances this can transpire over x amount of years. But the recording company can release an artist at their discretion without recording any albums.

Examples: Allison…gone after one album, Archie…Jive was going to hold him to his contract (say 3 albums over 6 years). Archie put out a Christmas album and a quickie 3rd album…he was then able to walk away, clear. Otherwise Jive could have held on to him for the six years. Kelly has a 5 album deal (maybe 5 over 15)….she has to fulfill it before she can walk because they want to keep her. Jive at no time has to produce the initial contracted albums and the artist can’t force them to…so even though Idols are saying they are recording another album their label could just hold it until the time span contract runs out (maybe waiting for a better market or seeing if the artist can conjure up an audience during his gigs).

  • SajiNoKami

    whoa were am i?

  • tripp_ncwy

Tess, the initial record deal is for one album after that the the label holds options for the next album over x-number of years (3-5). If at any time the label chooses not to exercise their option for the next album, the contract terminates.

I’ve never heard of a contract being for X number of years, it’s for a certain number of albums. Your examples of Kelly and Archie are contradicting one another. If Archie’s contract wasn’t up, and Jive wanted to keep him, they could have. We know that Kelly has at least been tempted to leave RCA, but she can’t until she has fulfilled her obligations to them, meaning released a certain number of albums.

  • djafan

If Archie’s contract wasn’t up, and Jive wanted to keep him, they could have.

Archie’s contract was fulfilled and Jive offered options to renew his contract and David opted not to and walked away like Tess said. So no, Jive couldn’t have kept David. Smart smart move in my opinion.

  • Elliegrll

That’s my point. I’m saying that if the contract wasn’t up, then Archie could not have gone anywhere, even if that is what he wanted to do. But, according to David, he was able to leave, because he fulfilled the terms of his original contract.

  • Tess

I think there is some confusion about albums versus time. Archie’s contract probably was something like 3/5. Meaning his end of the contract was to record 3 albums in 5 years. He was free once he fulfilled either end of the bargain….but Jive could have released him after one album, or they could have held on to him for 5 years if he hadn’t recorded the 3rd album. And yes their is a time limit on contracts….otherwise a label could hold you as an indentured servant if they wanted to.

  • tripp_ncwy

I think there is some confusion about albums versus time.

There is no confusion. Idol contracts are based on a set number of albums.

Do you have a link to his contract that spells out that this is the case? This information doesn’t seem to be in Scotty’s contract that was posted online, or in the ones from season 8, which did spell out how long the alums were to be signed to 19R.
