Unexpected moments boost the touring Idols

There are some things that will never be surprising about the American Idols Live tour:

First of all, it will be crowded. The annual tour features the “American Idol” top 10, and they all have their solo moments on stage as well as duos, trios and group numbers.

Secondly, it will be loud. Many “Idol” fans are teens, so when a Blake Lewis or even a Gina Glocksen takes the stage, you can barely hear what they’re saying above the screams…..

Exclusive Interview: Sabrina Sloan, from ‘American Idol’

If American Idol was a show judged by experts in as objective a way as possible, Sabrina Sloan would have at least made the top 6 last season. Sabrina Sloan, a 27-year-old from California, has an incredible voice and it was shocker when America eliminated Sabrina from the competition after making it into the top 16 on American Idol. Thankfully, we haven’t heard the last of Sabrina. She stopped by BuddyTV recently to discuss her time on the show and what she’s got coming up in the future…..

…”American Idol” 2006 runner-up Katharine McPhee makes all kinds of provocative statements in the August issue of Stuff (check out McPhee’s sultry cover shot right here). Highlights include comments about being both naughty and nice (“There’s this other side of me that’s outgoing, energetic, and wild à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and did really stupid things in college”); dating older men (“I love them. They’re just wiser, and they’re less about themselves and more about you.”); obsessions (“For me, with men, I will fixate on something. I’ll say, ‘I’m obsessed with your chin.’ I’ll kiss his chin and munch on it, and I think that makes people feel good.”); and settling down (“I want to have, like, 15 babies. Interestingly, McPhee will play a pregnant hippy in her forthcoming studio acting debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter. McPhee will appear in an untitled Columbia Pictures/ Happy Madison comedy that also features Anna Faris, Emma Stone and Rumer Willis (Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s daughter). Faris will play a Playboy bunny who is kicked out of the Playboy Mansion and becomes the house mother to a lame sorority. Filming is scheduled to begin later this month…

Love him or hate him, Sanjaya is back for Idols Live tour

While this summer’s American Idol Live tour may be headlined by the winner of this season’s competition, Jordin Sparks, and runner-up Blake Lewis, the top drawing card may well be Sanjaya Malakar.

He was voted off the show in April, finishing seventh. But that doesn’t change the fact that Malakar was the story of “American Idol” season six.

Malakar quickly built a fanatical following on “Idol,” especially among young girls drawn to his charismatic stage presence, boyish good looks and his full mop of hair, which was a big topic as he changed styles from episode to episode….

…Celebrities are humble these days, especially when the topic turns to plastic surgery. It is no different for one Kellie Pickler of American Idol, who got breast implants which she showed off in a return performance on American Idol in March of 2007. Since her appearance on the show, Pickler has, surprise surprise, denied having a breast augmentation. It is a good thing Pickler may have had a change of heart and has semi-admitted to have the breast implants in a televised interview. The singer has also said that she is open to having plastic surgery in the future once the signs of aging appear. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m all for it. Wading through Pacific’s ocean

…Actually, I’m far more interested in whether success has spoiled Chris Daughtry (Wednesday, 7 p.m., $39.50, with 12 Stones), given that his omnipresent debut is the biggest smash so far in a tremendously weak sales year. Will he come off humble yet defiantly strong in his first large-scale O.C. show, following a well-received set earlier this year at the Mouse House? Can he reproduce as robustly live what so many have taken to on record? Will I wish I was actually home when he starts to sing “Home”? …

Taylor Hicks on track
Alabama native thinks he’ll feel at home at the Kentucky Speedway

Nothing says summer like a truck race at the Speedway accompanied by some good old-fashioned American rock and soul. Former “American Idol” star Taylor Hicks will bring his “Soul Patrol” to the track Saturday night for a gig before the Built Ford Tough 225.

Hicks, 29, who will also sing the national anthem, says he’s got no worries about taming the boisterous Speedway crowd, having spent plenty of time at the track in his native Birmingham, Ala. The gray-haired crooner, whose self-titled major-label debut was released in December, has been touring hard for most of this year. The Speedway gig is his only scheduled appearance in the area. He called us from the road and shared some of his boundless enthusiasm for scoring the gig of a lifetime…..

  • And, LisaB….don’t forget about the bed rest.

  • I cannot figure out what Blake interview everyone is talking about. Can someone repost the link for me? Sorry to be so dense…

  • Here you go, Lu.

    http://usaweekend.com/07_issues/070715/070715kelly_clarkson.html#chatter

I personally don’t think he said anything that bad. He thinks group numbers are cheesy and he’d rather do originals. Oh, and he thinks the judges are full of malarkey. The bastard!

Of course, he was very complimentary about Kelly Clarkson.

Blake has said in a gazillion interviews how excited he was to be going on tour and that he loves live audiences.

  • Blake strikes me as another performer who thought he was too good for American Idol. As much as Chris Sligh gets a lot of carp for the things he says, I think that Blakeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ego is up there with the best of them.

I kinda see Chris’ ego in a different light to Blake’s. IMO, Chris comes across like a very nice guy with a sense of humour most won’t get at first. He does seem to take things a bit personal thou. Blake, on the other hand, just comes across as if he is allowing all that was/is happening to him go straight to his head.

  • I’m glad to see that Sabrina Sloan is still out there, workin it. She was soooo disappointing after she killed in her opening performance. But I’ve heard her a few times after she was off the show and really enjoyed her voice.

Considering the wide difference in success of even finalists, it’s always interesting to see how much an appearance on Idol can help those that merely got a quick shot at the limelight. Could Ayla Brown truly be the biggest success story out of the non-finalists? Time will tell.

  • Of course, he was very complimentary about Kelly Clarkson.

Yes. He said that Kelly Clarkson reminds him of his mom. I know most 20-something girls can’t hear that often enough.

    LOL…yes, I know it’s out of context.

I’m not saying Blake is factually incorrect, I just think he might want to be a tad more tactful.

I don’t dislike Blake for what he said, but it might make the tour a bit less enjoyable. It’s kind of like watching a dancing bear. You feel guilty when you know that they are being tortured to perform that way. If Blake doesn’t like what he’s doing (“I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really like singing other peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s stuff.”) and he thinks it’s beneath him (“Honestly, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not a big fan of group anything. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve always thought that group performances are a little cheesy”), I feel kind of bad watching it. First, he’s not having fun. Second, I get the impression he doesn’t think much of people who are fans of the group thing.

But, I’ll chalk it up to a bad day for him. It was early. He was grumpy. There wasn’t a Starbucks on the way. Jordin had just sat on his favourite hat. He looks like he’s having fun on stage, so I’ll believe the illusion for now.

  • He looks like heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s having fun on stage, so Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll believe the illusion for now.

Ditto on that. And, I still haven’t seen anything that makes him sound all that diva-ish. Plus, I absolutely adore the word Malarkey and I just don’t think it’s used enough in everyday conversation.

  • If I compare someone to my mom, it’s a huge compliment. I’m fairly close to my mom and think she’s a great human being and wish there were more people like her in the world.

  • Still loving on Blake. Group songs usually are cheesy. I like that he doesn’t just give the pat PC answers to everything.

  • Interviews are boring and fake when you read the same canned answers for every question. I’m glad Blake tells it like it is.

  • At least Blake brings buzz to Season 6. They need a “bad boy” to spice things up. I saw Becky O’Donohue on one of those tabloid shows. She was interviewing Adam Sandler and Jessica Biel and is in some movie with them. She also interviewed Kat and I thought came across really well. So there’s another ex-idol with some kind of career going. I forgot how beautiful she is.

  • Blake is fine. Kristi, his BFF and the head Blaker Girl, wrote this in a MySpace bulletin she sent out on Monday:

i asked him what he thinks of tour so far and he said it’s been really fun. he said the audiences are “really loud!”. haha i asked him what his favorite song to perform is and he said “i like the guys band, and my duet with chris, and all my solo songs…so i guess i like everything!” all in all, our boy’s having a good time!

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here. In the past, he’s been quoted out of context, so who knows…that could be what’s happened here. And as pj said, he’s said a gazillion times that he was excited to go on tour. He wanted to make the top ten for that very reason.

  • You feel guilty when you know that they are being tortured to perform that way.

This is going to sound horrible, but knowing that makes watching the groups songs even funnier. heh.

At least Blake brings buzz to Season 6. They need a “bad boy” to spice things up.

Hell yeah. So. Sick. Of. Kat. McPhee. Brink on the Blaker Snark! :devil_tb:

  • I like Blake so of course will give him the benefit of doubt but really nothing he said bothers me in the least. The judges aren’t reasonable much of the time (don’t mess around with a classic one week and love how you made the song your own the next) and he never argued with them which people hate. I also hate group numbers although I’d suffer through it if Blake did, lol.

  • Advice to Kat:
Don’t blow kisses! Not your best look. Just write “I’m blowing you a kiss” on your hand.

  • Hell yeah. So. Sick. Of. Kat. McPhee.

Join the club…I’ve been sick of her from the moment I heard her sing…and then she opened her mouth and spoke. Stick a fork in her.

Brink on the Blaker Snark! :devil_tb:

OK, I will start studying up on the increasingly snark-worthy Blake Lewis. Although, fugly hat talk only goes so far. There is only so much one can with do.

    ETA:

    WOW. WHO KNEW?

Blake has already made the cover of The Hat Magazine.

  • The fugly hat has life in it yet! It could make this esteemed cover:
    http://thumbsnap.com/v/a8IopZDg.jpg

  • Hmmmm. Blake just isn’t as snark-worthy as Kat is he? Ahh well… :)

  • I tried MJ, I really tried. :)

Although, thinking about it, with all the hats Blake owns, he COULD appear on Milliner’s Monthly for years.
