Today’s Idol headlines after the jump…
LaKisha’s out singing
The “American Idols Live” tour kicked off July 6 in Sunshine, Fla., to good reviews….
Country ‘idol’ wows crowd
Whoever said second place is the first loser clearly has never met Bucky Covington, and after his Friday night performance at the Lycoming County Fair there are some pint-sized fans who agree.
The American Idol fifth season eighth-place finalist is making quite a name for himself. Early last week his first single, “A Different World,” from his self-titled album, broke into the top 10 on country music radio stations………
Fuller to create an American Idol
Our correspondent reports from Los Angeles on the deal maker
THE MULTIMILLION-POUND DEAL TO bring David Beckham to the United States was in the planning for as long as two years, according to the man who helped to piece it together. While some people around the England midfield player needed persuading of the wisdom of signing for Los Angeles Galaxy, Simon Fuller made it plain in an interview with The Times that he had always been a great believer in chasing the American dream………
Desperately Seeking Stardom
Bug juice. Hiking. Swimming. Why settle for ordinary summer camp when you can chase fame at American Idol camp in - not Hollywood - but the Berkshires?
Good thing I’m not Simon Cowell. Down in a musty-smelling basement, papered in fraying playbills for middle school productions and bumper stickers proclaiming “Singing Gives Me a Trill!” 14-year-old Sean Gearin is working through puberty with his vocal coach. It’s not pretty. His sweet girl-boy voice creaks and cracks. He forgets words. Unforgivable sins by American Idol standards. Oh, darling Sean: Simon would eat you alive……
Bits ‘n’ Pieces
Who needs Paris?
Just how important was Paris Bennett to the Idols Return tour? Not enough for fans to demand a refund when she dropped out of touring with other former “American Idol” contestants - Justin Guarini, Kimberly Caldwell and Anthony Federov . The group is booked at the Clark County Fair in August.
Bennett announced in June she was leaving the group to pursue a solo career. Clark County Fair officials offered refunds to anyone who had purchased a ticket for the Aug. 4 show.
“I don’t know of anyone who requested a refund,” fair director Tom Musser said. “Hey, this is just a fun show and I think people just want to come out and see former Idol contestants. Perhaps if we had lost Justin, things may have been a little different.”
First-class Countryfest lacked female voice
…Covington, who opened the show, and Turner, who closed, played stellar sets, sandwiching impressive performances by Worley, Nichols and Carroll….

When is the “King of All Media” awards? Surely he is a ringer for the win!
It has been carpy morning…sometime over night, my 30 gallon aquarium sprung a leak. What a mess…I didn’t notice it until 10:30ish. Wood floor and wool oriental carpet were soaked and are drying with the aid of a fan as we speak. Water cleaned up (check), broken tank removed (check, with the help of the semi-strapping young house painters), and fish saved (check, actually, I took 6 of them to the fish store, kept one for the newly purchased smaller tank).
So, when I saw this name
I laughed out loud with a very needed laugh.
And am also thrilled that Paul Potts’ CD will soon be on its way and in my hot little hands soon.
PPWD!!!
Of the books listed above, I have purchased and read (or am in the processing of reading) five.

Sigh. I broke down and downloaded Taylor’s book from iTunes because I was too embarrassed to order it (husband might open box) or buy it in a store. I put it on my iPod and then immediately deleted it from iTunes and emptied my recycle bin. That should take care of it, no?
Reading out loud is probably not Taylor’s greatest strength, but there were some interesting bits. I’m glad that many of his good fans seem to be buying it.
Boulder, my Mac friend, I feel your pain! And I did not see this posted earlier in the thread — I hope it cheers you up!

Yeah cheese, that should do it. It works for my kiddie porn. I kid, I kid.
Speaking of Taylor’s book and Paris dropping out of a mini-Idol’s tour. I found it interesting that, according to “Heart Full of Soul,” the person Taylor feared most because of obvious talent was… Paris Bennett.
Cheese - LOL, I have yet to purchase the book for the same reasons you listed. I don’t think I want it taking up all that space on my ipod though. I only have a nano -
Border’s Books has an on-line interview with Taylor:
It’s All About the Art and the Music: A Conversation with Taylor Hicks
Did you watch the recent season of American Idol? What do you think of the winner, Jordin Sparks?
Taylor Hicks: I think Jordin Sparks is a natural entertainer and I really enjoyed watching her when I could at the end of the season. I also enjoyed meeting and talking with her the finale week.

Speaking of books, I’m so excited I have the day off this Friday to read the new Harry Potter book! I’ve heard preorders on Amazon alone are over 2 million, when I bought mine from amazon it was only 22.50
I am kinda looking forward to the Constantine CD. As I recall, dude had the vocal chops. But I was for Bo all the way. (can’t wait for his Sept. CD release!)
Actually, Charlie Daniels, Toby Keith and Darryl Worley have all enjoyed success performing patriotic-themed tunes (Toby Keith’s are even a bit radical). I wish Phil well, though, and think he has a very lush singing voice. As far as who will excel from Season 6, I think Blake is the one who will be doing well this time next year. I’m not a fan of electronica, but he’s got a good network already, as well as the respect of his peers.
Guess I’m a bad Taylor fan, don’t plan on buying the book. Hubby would think I’ve lost it fer sure, but I really have no interest in reading it. But that’s just me. But so happy JTWFW got used as a backdrop! ‘Bout damn time.
Sorry, rad, but the new Harry Potter book doesn’t come out until Saturday (July 21st). Most internet book companies have made special arrangements to get the books delivered on Saturday.
Carrie Underwood’s team has issued a press release that her album will be released October 23rd (Alicia Keys is also releasing that week).
Should be exciting (and leaves a few weeks before the S6 Idols start releasing so she doesn’t crush them).

Is that so? Alrighty then…
Lisa, your lips are so pretty today. I love your lips.
LOL
Anyway, I think I’m also excited about the Constantine CD. I liked his Bohemian Rhapsody on the Killer Queen album (as well as on the show). Like jersey was, though, I was also afraid of clicking on Boulder’s link for fear of the dreaded, infamous photo (even though I once posted a link to it myself). Was I relieved to find it was a pretty harmless, ewww-free gnomie. LOL

Happy birthday, dcd74!
Your lips are so pretty today. I love your lips.
;-D
Interesting read about Paris Bennett. A solo career? I’ve tried listening to snippets of her cd - yuck. She’s really the only AI5er so far to put out something that’s just bad… imo. Also, I think the whole Princess P thing is just stupid. I cant believe that the first song on her cd is Hail to the Princess- geesh - give me a break.
What on earth was she thinking - lol!
