Today’s Idol headlines after the jump…
MusicFest takes its time laying down the funk
…Then, who was this fun, chatty girlfriend? The one engaging the audience in little singalongs of Gladys Knight & the Pips’ “Midnight Train to Georgia” and Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools.” Why, it was Paris Bennett, whose giddy, a cappella opening to her set was a testimonial that she’s one American Idol finalist who really can sing. Which made it all the more disappointing when she brought her mere 22 minutes to a close by singing selected cuts from her album — including her remake of the old girl-group fave “My Boyfriend’s Back” — to backing tracks, sometimes accompanied by loose-limbed dancers…
8-year-old visits D.C. to educate others about diabetes
…The theme for this year’s Congress is “Promise to Remember Me” and the children, teenagers, parents and representatives participating are asking that Senators and the Bush administration do just that in regard to the proposed increase in research funding. Former American Idol contestant Elliot Yamin sang with the child delegates the theme song for the efforts. Yamin also has type 1 diabetes….
Underwood rocks country crowd at state fair
In a year with Daughtry as the lone rock act at the Delaware State Fair, Carrie Underwood made quick work of injecting a little more rock ‘n’ roll to the country-heavy line-up.
Underwood broke out a surprisingly faithful cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” halfway through her 75-minute set Saturday night, leading to the unusual scene of thousands of mothers and grandmothers clapping along to one of Axl Rose’s greatest hits…..
Pop-Country Duo Co3 Brings New Sound To Christian Music With Release Of Debut CD ‘Determined’
…And it’s not much of a surprise that the duo’s music often draws an immediate comparison to Carrie Underwood’s pop-tinged hits, since Little spent a considerable amount of time in the American Idol winner’s band, serving as lead guitarist, band leader and songwriter.
“It all started in 1997 when she just turned 14 and I was approached by her manager at the time to listen to her demos and consider putting together her band,” he recalls. “I thought she was a little young, but had great pipes, so we decided to team up and rehearse every week together. We started doing a lot of live dates and I wrote a song called ‘Don’t Talk About Love’ that quickly became a concert favorite.”….
‘Idol’ singer’s mom tells of shame, amends
Choking back tears on the stage at Walnut Creek Amphitheater on Friday night, former “American Idol” sweetheart Kellie Pickler sang a song of questions to the mother who abandoned her.
In a church sanctuary not five miles away, Pickler’s mother, Cynthia Malone, prayed once more for the strength to fully forgive herself for deserting Pickler as a toddler…….

Hey everyone!
Kind of in a nervous mood this morning–my dog was feeling very ill this morning, wasn’t able to walk right, and was crying out in pain. Hasn’t eaten and his belly is all distended. We took him to the emergency clinic and are just waiting to see what’s going on.
Re: Kellie Pickler…I enjoyed reading her interview with EW yesterday. Funny how even though she projected the dim bulb image on Idol, she actually seems now to be one of the more intelligent contestants.
Fantasia had her story made for a TV movie, this is the next one… who other than Kellie herself do you think can play Kellie Pickler ? I recommend Ashley Simpson.
Wow I read Kellie’s mom’s story and my heart sank. For Kellie to go out and be the star that she is, to overcome all that, is remarkable. I predict Kellie will be on TV soon with a tv show. She’s got the looks and the personality.
Kellie’s story is incredible. Sometimes I think they should do one of those Lifetime shows on the Season 5 crew. Kellie, Elliott, Taylor, Chris and Bucky are all real rags to riches stories with Kellie and Elliott really overcoming alot. Kellie will be on GMA tomorrow (I think) and is featured on the CMA in the evening.
Kat - best wishes for your dog. I know mine is part of my family and I would be a nervous wreck, too.
Kellie’s also on Regis & Kelly on Tuesday.
God bless Kellie. No child should have to go through something like that. i agree that both Kellie and Elliot’s stories would make excellent stories of overcoming the odds. The big difference in their struggles is that Elliott always had a loving, supportive mother behind him.

How did your pup make out? Hoping that everything turned out okay. Let us know.
Thanks to db for posting the John Mayer & Eric Clapton youtube! I loved watching it.
Reading that article about Kellie Pickler is just mindboggling. Thank heaven for her grandparents. I love “I Wonder” and “My Angel”. My sister, who doesn’t watch AI, is starting to notice Kellie on CMT and really likes her. I do think she would be great in a television show with her bubbly personality and great looks, and I think her music career is just taking off. She seems to be making good decisions.
Kat - What’d I miss? What’s up with pup? I’ve been on vacation this week and have only dropped in here and there. Hope everything is okay.
A little season five fun…

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes about my dog…luckily he’s fine. He had a nasty virus that’s put him in a bit of pain but the vet says he just needs a couple days of rest. Thank goodness he didn’t have torsion or one of the more serious effects of bloating!

Glad to hear the good news!
It’s crazy how I always, always cry at the Kellie Pickler story, no matter how many times I have heard it. Heh. :p
Lu,
Thanks for the Season 5 fun!
Did you see Taylor grinning with Elliott? Chris and Bucky purposefully bumping each other?
I still smile each time I see those guys!
Well I made it to Jamboree In the Hills to see Bucky today and I wasn’t disapointed. He was very good and the audience responded .
He and his band ( with bro Rocky on drums) rocked the place. He sang several of the songs from his cd and threw in a few covers. He did Suspicious Minds , Wave on Wave , Keep Your Hands to Yourself and Every Rose Has It’s Thorns. My favorite covers he performed were Wave on Wave and the Georgia Satelites number Keep Your Hands to Yourself. He was excellent on both. The crowd went wild on KYHTY and were singing right along with him.I think that he should consider recording that one.
A couple of amusing things happened during his set : He jumped off stage into the audience and went over to this white haired older lady probably believing she wouldn’t get carried away and grab him , boy was he wrong , she put a big ole bear hug on him and wouldn”t let go , it was a hoot. While he was amid the crowd singing he ran up the aisle ( like a deer) and some chubby, out of shape police officers who were working security tried to keep up with him without much success. It was hillarious . It was like watching a deer being chased by a flock of waddling ducks.
Bucky has a good band and they were very high energy with a couple of ballads thrown in. I think he has a bright future ahead of him if he makes the right choices. He has such a good personality and seems so down to earth. He told the crowd that he would love to grab a cooler and join them in watching the rest of the show. Seemed pretty cool.
All in all I had a good week Kellie on Thursday and Bucky today and besides that the tickets were given to me as a gift.
Kat , so glad to hear your puppy is on the mend. I wasn’t so lucky last month and lost my little cocker to the poisoned dog food. I can’t think about it without getting upset. You become so attached to them. Glad your doggie is getting better , give him a big hug and count your blessings.

Kat has the hot and sexy happening here. I’m thinking music isn’t her gift.
All the pretty lights are on but there’s just no one home. *Sigh*.
There’s always tomorrow. ;-)
Dogs are not my favorite animals these days (one of their kind just chewed on something very important to me
), but I’m really sorry to hear about your loss, cricket, and relieved to hear Kat’s dog is going to be alright. :)
Cricket, nice Bucky concert recap! Thanks. :)
