Kris Allen: The ultimate interview, Part 1
“American Idol” winner Kris Allen sat down with writer Fred Bronson for an in-depth interview. In Part 1 of this four-part interview, Allen talks about his first musical influences and early musical ambitions.
Season 8 ‘American Idol’ winner Kris Allen was born June 21, 1985, to Neil and Kimberly Allen in Jacksonville, Ark.
Paula Abdul negotiating a return to ‘Idol’
Now that the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ cast has been announced, and Paula Abdul’s name is not on the list, negotiations between Abdul and Fox for her return to ‘American Idol’ have become more intense.
‘The people at the very top of ABC were really vocal about getting her on board for ‘Dancing,” said a source familiar with the talks with Abdul. ‘By not exactly keeping it secret, it made Paula’s value more apparent to Fox.’
The negotiations are ongoing, but calling them ‘talks’ could be more appropriate, since dubbing them ‘negotiations’ suggests that one side is budging.

What will Paula Abdul Miss Most about ‘American Idol?’
Paula Abdul responds to the paparazzi when asked what she will miss most about being a judge on “American Idol.”
She answers the question saying, “Lots of things.”
Hollywood.tv caught up with Abdul as she was coming and going to dinner at Hollywood restaurant BOA.

Paula Abdul — I’ve Got Something Lined Up
Paula Abdul is working something out — more than just her body — ’cause last night outside of Crunch gym in West Hollywood, Paula hinted that some sort of deal was in the works … but she wouldn’t say with who!
Abdul also made it clear she isn’t jealous of Posh — or any other “American Idol” replacement judge — and raised the point, “they don’t ever say that about men … why does it always have to be women who are jealous?”
American Idol’s Megan Joy Talks Paula Abdul, Adam Lambert & Road Work
When we first caught up with Megan Joy, American Idol’s ninth-place finisher, before the summer tour, she warned us that she’d be the “skanky one” on the outing. Before you take that the wrong way (she is a mom, after all!), she was talking about her tour wardrobe’â€specifically that tight, pink Barbie-esque shiny dress.
We had to ask her: Is that something you would wear offstage? “No, never,” she told us this morning. But it’s great onstage, right? “Uh, I guess.” Oh, you don’t like it. “Yeah, no, nope.” Well, you can change it can’t you? “Nope. But it’s all right.”
Megan Joy on the Idols Tour
Season 8’s ninth place finisher, Megan Joy, is currently on tour around the country with the Top 10 Idols. We caught up with Megan Joy to find out what life is like on the road, if she is planning on getting any American Idol inspired tattoos, and what her fans are like.
Megan is having a wonderful time on the Idols tour. “I love my set and the seven minutes that I’m on stage.” Most of all, Megan said, “I love being on the bus with Allison and Lil. We have so much fun.” They occupy their time with dance parties, watching movies, and making up raps. Perhaps Megan, Lil, and Allison should collaborate and release a rap album!
Ryan Seacrest Gets a Lift
There’s no stopping Ryan Seacrest as he continues to reach new heights … with the help of a box.
The diminutive 34-year-old’s on-air TV secret was exposed while filming a segment in Boston this weekend.
Apparently, Paula Abdul isn’t the only “American Idol” staffer to get the short end of the stick.
Cook comments on Lambert, Allen
No need to ask David Cook who received the loudest applause at the Aug. 7, 2009 American Idol Tour stop in Atlantic City. He heard the ovation for this year’s runnerup Adam Lambert compared to that given to winner Kris Allen.
‘Yes, but last year I always felt like Archie (season 7 runnerup David Archuleta) got more response on the Idol Tour than I did,’ Cook told IdolChatter in a phone interview last week.
‘I did get to watch the show (on TV) this season. I thought there was a great amount of talent on it. And on the American Idol Tour I thought everyone was representing the show very well. I feel like this Tour is a good one.’
David Cook Takes Nieces And Nephews On A Magic Carpet RideDavid Cook Takes Nieces And Nephews On A Magic Carpet Ride
American Idol winner David Cook played the role of World’s Best Uncle when he entertained four of his nieces and nephews at Walt Disney World Resort Monday morning. The singer and the kids were all smiles at they took in the Magic Carpets of Aladdin ride at the Magic Kingdom theme park.
Two of the little ones – Gracie, 6 and Gage 8 – are the children of David’s brother Adam Cook who died in May from brain cancer.

Kellie Pickler impresses, cracks up Nashville industry audience
Did you know Kellie Pickler wrote most of the songs for her first album over the phone? Kellie revealed that and many other things — like she sometimes writes fake titles on her set lists to keep her band amused — during a six-song set Monday night at the Nashville offices of RCA Records.
Sitting on a stool wearing a beige dress and backed by three members of her road band, Kellie performed for members of Nashville’s entertainment media and employees of her record label, taking more time to set up each number than it took to sing the songs themselves. She revealed that the same man inspired Best Days of Your Life, Rocks and Rice and Red High Heels (“Damn, I’m going to have to send him something!” she said). She also performed her new single, Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You (which she’d listed on her band’s set list as Didn’t Y’All A** Know), as well as a cover of the late Keith Whitley’s Don’t Close Your Eyes.
David Archuleta’s show at Grand Rapids’ The Intersection rocks, surprisingly
“I don’t think I can hear anymore,” my 8-year-old son, Ezra, said as we ambled out of The Intersection on Monday night. “All you need for broken ear drums is teenage girls and David Archuleta.”
The kid’s right. About 450 concertgoers, ages 6 to 60, screamed like crazy through the 2008 “American Idol” runner-up’s show, yelling and squealing every time the teen idol sang a sweet lyric, gestured in a particularly handsome way, or uttered a sentence.
Another ‘American Idol’ Becomes a Dreamgirl
Jennifer Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Effie White in the film version of ‘Dreamgirls.’ Now another “American Idol” star has been cast in the touring company of the musical.
Syesha Mercado, the second runner-up on the seventh season, will take on the role of Deena Jones, played by Beyonc in the movie, when the production begins performances at the Apollo Theater in New York City on Nov. 7, with an opening scheduled for Nov. 22. The limited run will play the Harlem venue through Dec. 6 and then begin touring the country.

DWTS’ Samantha Harris Wants Paula Abdul’s Dressing Room
Now that Paula Abdul has left American Idol, Dancing With the Stars host Samantha Harris wants her dressing room. (Abdul filmed her Fox show at the same Los Angeles studio where Harris shoots her ABC hit.)
“In past seasons when Dancing wasn’t going on at the same time as Idol, I woud have Paula’s dressing room, and it’s fabulous!” Harris tells Johnjay and Rich on Phoenix’s KISS FM. “It’s a really cute, big pink dressing room. I should start putting my name in for it now… Maybe I’ll get the dressing room finally.”
It’s back! British Pussycat Dolls, Princess Sweetie… and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer vie for X Factor crown
The wait is nearly over and with less than a week until X Factor is back on our screens, here is a little taster of what’s to come.
As the hit ITV show enters its sixth season, contestants this year auditioned in front of a live audience for the first time as the programme enters a new era.
And judging by these pictures, it appears Britain’s living rooms are going to bear witness to plenty of drama as the new batch of wannabes are put through their paces.

CindyM, yeah I do. Maybe it’s already been taped. They announced it at the end of their live show about an hour and a half ago.
I already said this in the thread about it, but Jason Castro’s single is very sunny…and sounds like it should be on a commercial for Target or JC Penney or something…not so much on the radio. Yeah, no…
Anyhoo, don’t know if these have been posted yet.
This is from the Hamilton tour stop. It appears Kris is the only one who has a clue that the interviewer is messing with the Idols. The others are like, uh…what?

Can’t seem to post on the concert thread (says comments are closed), but I am currently uploading Adam’s set plus Hey Jude/DSB. . . laptop is running very slow this evening. The first one up is WLL. I’ll post the links when I get them, but you might find them before I do (check for all under my name – Suz526- at YouTube). Color/exposure is weird during Bowie – I may have inadvertently hit the exposure button . . . Video police were very kind in our section . . .
Here’s WLL

(I thought it was much slower this evening – Adam looked breathtaking. Woman!
Here is the pre-concert report from the Celebrity News Column in the Boston Globe. I’m an Adam fan but I thought the reporter was a bit rude to the other Idols:

So happy to have some cookie crumbs on David’s day off. Cook is always in my mind, like he said he is amazed how his fans are so hungry to know everything about him. I am certainly one of them. :biggrin_wp:
Also from tonights concert:JoannaWeiss: Just filed review of the Adam Lambert show – I mean, the ‘Idol’ tour. For a guy who thrusts like that he has a surprisingly chipper voice.3 minutes ago from web · Reply · View TweetThis is a reporter for the Boston Globe. 24.

The reviews would be cool to read
Still laughing at the concert thread though
Too bad we couldn’t choose which ones. We were hoping to get some quality face time with Adam Lambert. Instead, we got Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud, Scott MacIntyre, Michael Sarver, and Allison Iraheta.

Just heard Adam Lambert’s newest single. It’s so good. Epic. My connections get me everything. ;D#
1 minute ago from web
But now she’s claiming that she has NOT heard either single and that some friend took her laptop and made those tweets under her account…
assuming we believe her, chick needs to get better friends!! i have a feeling she backtracked after getting a lot of not so nice @replies…and I doubt that this girl (who lives in Florida according to her twitter) has heard any of Adam’s or Kris’ new stuff…
Castro’s new single is out? Wowser, hope I get a listen tomorrow….but whistling?? Please say it isn’t so

Probably some nut job! And I just hate it when they backtrack after a visit from a few rabid fans, so not cool…stick to your guns(or to your bullshit as the case may be in this chick’s case)
Just read part 1 of the LA Times interview with Kris Allen. Third in the state on viola? I am so impressed. I wonder if we’ll see him jamming on a saxophone next. He plays everything.
Just listened to Jason’s song. Wow. I love it. It is a happy retro pop–I see why people have commented that it’s 60s. It’s more complicated musically than most 60s tunes though-syncopated rhythms, etc.
I’m really surprised. I thought his first single would be a slow love song. So far, I love Atlantic Records. (And his website is WAY better than David Archuleta’s. Jive sucks. I wonder if Kris and Allison will have sucky websites too?)
I just wonder if people will embrace the sound. It’s a happy, fun song, but Top 40 isn’t a happy place like in the old days.
Because they think he’s hot. End of story.
Do you or any of your friends want to sleep with Portia De Rossi? Alrighty then.
I think there’s another component to idol fanatism than pure sexual attraction.
The vote part of the contest makes the fan/idol relationship much more intense than for others artists, IMO it makes people think the success of their idol is up to them and as a result they become very protective of their idol.
I’m always surprised of how many fans have a motherly affection to some of the contestants and how they want them to do well financially (when most of them have already earn a lot of money with the tour itunes stuff), it’s just something totally specific to the “idol experience”.
I am able to think that Adam is hot and sexy without remotely wanting to jump him or thinking about his sexual preferences in any way. It does not matter in the least. Sexy is sexy.
something is totally wonky tonight and I can’t seem to reply. abort mission.
The answer is no. And even if I were inclined toward her personally, any sort of celebrity-lusting after her or any other lesbian would be accompanied by some sort of premise that begins, “I’ll bet she’s not absolutely 100%….”
(Unless, of course, Amy Adams turned out to be a lesbian. In fact, if it was Amy, all bets would be off. I would lust after Amy even if she was a dendrosexual. I along with the rest of the animal kingdom would have no prayer, but I could bring her a spider plant. And compliment her on her performance in the “Sunshine Cleaners” while I was there….)
This is VERY true. I may someday incorporate my observations, based on countless hours loitering on the interwebs, of online fandom (of all types) into some sort of thesis-type parer or another.
The working theory that I’ve formulated with respect to the American Idol variety of fandom is that it’s predicated upon the notion that there is this undiscovered gem of talent out there– an unfound diamond in the rough– that the fans themselves feel an incumbent responsibility to help reveal to the world by voting, downloading, spreading the word about them, etc….
Of course there are opposing fans out there who think they have an undiscovered diamond too. And so supporting “our Idol” over “their Idol” often becomes about more than whose talent makes them more deserving of achieving their dream. It also becomes about whose brand of music and pop culture– and often also culture in general, politics, religion, values, worldview etc.– will “triumph” during that season of Idol and beyond the season.
Anyway, like I said, it’s a rudimentary, working theory. Obviously, it needs more fleshing out….
I definitely think there’s a weird “We made you, you owe us” component to the idol fandom that can get really creepy and irritating at times.
But I’m a bit confused at your confusion about why people would find Adam, Kris, or the others sexually attractive even though they have zero chance (Adam’s gay, Kris is married, and both are famous) of getting with them. Now, in order for me to have a full-blown “crush” on a guy, I would definitely have to know that he was really interested in me too. But sexual attraction? I’m sexually attracted to people who are sexually attractive. Adam is sexually attractive because he’s gorgeous and charismatic and just very sexy, whatever causes that. I don’t have to think I have a chance with him–which I wouldn’t even if he were straight–to feel attracted to a gorgeous, sexy guy. I don’t think that most women and girls who find Kris sexually attractive are actually hoping to get with him.
Am I misunderstanding your post? It’s very possible–it’s late and my reading comprehension skills are not at their best. You seem to be saying that you’re sexually attracted to Amy Adams, so how is it different for people who are sexually attracted to Adam or Kris, even though they have no actual dream or thought of hooking up with them?

Huh? What do movie premieres have to do with anything? Who knows about Brad or Halle but celebs have been known to hook up with fans. I don’t think that’s a particularly shocking revelation to most folks. A couple years ago, my sister was hit on by a member of INXS after a concert. She turned him down.
And that’s EXACTLY how some feel about Adam. It doesn’t matter! Sexy is Sexy!
