Today’s Idol headlines after the jump…
Jordin Sparks hoping to live up to ‘Idol’ title
New single released on AOL music blog today
Given the multiplatinum, Grammy-winning successes of fellow American Idol winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks is feeling pressure to make her own mark on the music world.
It’s a lot to live up to.
”They’ve risen the bar so high and I’m like, ‘I hope I can reach it,”’ the bubbly 17-year-old told the Associated Press on Wednesday. ”I’m trying to reach it! I just really hope that when (my CD) comes out it’ll be great and maybe as good as theirs. And hopefully it’ll sell well and people will like it.”…….

….Grammy-winning Kelly Clarkson will also perform her emotionally charged “Never Again,” which may win her a slick new Surfboard in the Choice Music: Payback Track category. Winning would be personally gratifying for the very first American Idol winner, who, after her initial album “Breakaway,” tried to breakaway from being pigeon-holed in the music industry. Clarkson fought to have control on her third album, “My December,” and the single “Never Again” is a result of her determination to make music her way…..
…Along with handing out the super-cool Surfboard awards, huge wave of celebrities will be featured on the Teen Choice telecast. Among them, this year’s American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, and host Ryan Seacrest…..

Travis Tritt enlists ‘Idol’ judge to show soul side
Randy Jackson produced the country star’s new, bluesy album, ‘The Storm’
With his new album, Travis Tritt wanted to delve deeper into his bluesy, soulful side. He wanted to build on his musical kinship with fellow Georgians like the Allman Brothers and Otis Redding. He wanted to break free of Nashville conventions.
He wanted to enlist the help of …. “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson?……..
Not What They’re Looking For - American Idol Tryouts
….At the winner’s exit, Gate 4, various news outlets waited for the more successful contestants to trickle outside for interviews. Each of these contestants were full of smiles until asked to share their vocal abilities, to which they coyly respond by saying they were asked not to sing.
Yet, standing around Gate 7 watching the rejected freely belt out their auditions one last time in an attempt for redemption, it was hard not to notice that the majority of these “losers” had pretty decent pipes. Some far more decent than those of Malakar’s, whose mediocrity won him 7th place. Others, however, were well aware of why they didn’t make it through to the next round. “I choked,” admitted 19 year-old Trena Collier, “I got nervous.” She also disclosed, like many other Gate 7 departees, that the judges told her she wasn’t what they were looking for…..

Idol’s Blake Lewis Gets Record Deal
Blake Lewis, the beat-boxing runner-up to Jordin Sparks on the sixth season of American Idol has been signed to 19 Recordings/Arista Records.
[snip]
Clive Davis says of Lewis, “Blake has a strong music sensibility and knows who he is and what his music should represent. His collaborators are all knocked out by him.”
Lewis, who has already experienced chart success with two of his covers from Idol, is working on the album while touring with his fellow show finalists. “I love performing, so spending the summer on the road has been a great experience,” Lewis says in a statement. “But I’m also enjoying my time in the studio and I’m very excited about recording my debut album. I’m thrilled to be working with 19 Recordings and ARISTA Records”

Concert review: ‘American Idols’ fail to bring originality
Dispensing with the big question: Sanjaya’s hair was arranged in towering tresses inspired by the ladies of the court of Louis XIV, replete with bananas and grapes, a javelin piercing the temple, topped by revolving plastic models of free-range grazing sheep, finished with a swath of bangs tumbling down each side of his forehead, representing Niagara’s American Falls, from which jutted a replica of Susan B. Anthony’s arm, clutching a voting-booth lever in a fitting salute to our local suffragist.
At which point his neck snapped under the weight of it all…….

“Soul Man” rocks Dothan
Friday, Aug 24, 2007
By Ebony Horton
Fans from across Alabama, Georgia and Florida draped in Taylor Hicks paraphernalia were anxious for Hicks’ performance on Thursday night at the Dothan Civic Center.
Sherri Clark had driven from Birmingham to watch Hicks for the 10th time. She was with her friend Mary Jolly.
Nineteen-year-old Jackie Ayala of Panama City, Fla., made a sign for Hicks, who her mother, Carla Hawkins, had paid for Ayala to see as a birthday present.
“I knew he was gonna win (‘American Idol’),” Ayala said. “We were in the military so we were overseas when American Idol was on, but we watched it faithfully — like we didn’t even get up for bathroom breaks or popcorn refills until a commercial came on. I just can’t believe I’m going to see this man in person. I’m so excited.”

I guess this show was booked way before Elliott signed on to do print ads for (Diet) Pepsi.
I read at a local forum that Taylor might be doing an Asian tour sometime in early 2008. Can anyone confirm this? That would be nice if true. :)
Is this on the internet ? If so, Taylor fans would be grateful to be pointed to the link.
LBB, I read it at Pinoy Exchange but the poster said “supposedly will tour Asia” and did not cite a link/source for her statement.
purplesmile,
Thanks for the link. I’ve gone to all the Taylor Boards that I know of but there is no talk of any overseas concert.
The only one I remember was when Taylor was rooming in with Jose “Sway” Penala during the top 24 competition and they were discussing the possibility of doing a concert together in the Philippines.
But that was a long time ago. Heck, I don’t even know where Sway is nowadays and Taylor’s schedule is booked till mid October ( see here : http://www.tay-online.com/th_2007_Tour.htm ) after which he mentions some creative hibernating and preparing for his next album.
Take care.

Don’t Miss: Taylor Hicks
August 24, 2007
WHAT: There has been no shortage of American Idol traffic in Central Florida lately. First, there was Clay Aiken last weekend at Hard Rock Live. Now, Taylor Hicks hits the same venue to unleash some of his blue-eyed soul. Hicks doesn’t seem to command the insane loyalty that the ClayMates shower on their man, but his music has a welcome old-school R&B edge. Not likely that he’ll cover Destiny’s Child, the way Aiken did last weekend.
WHEN: 8 p.m. Sunday.
WHERE: Hard Rock Live, Universal CityWalk, Orlando.
Is Ace definitely performing? Lots of times these telethons have actors and/or singers make appearances by answering phones or just speaking.
From MTV News (after the Jordin & Blake news):
The Kelly Clarkson train is slowly getting back on the tracks. After the early-summer one-two punch of dumping her manager and canceling the tour in support of My December, the singer has booked the first two shows of what is expected to be a fall/winter outing. The dates — an October 10 show at Verona, New York’s Turning Stone casino and another on October 15 at New York’s Beacon Theater — are in venues decidedly smaller than some of the arenas Clarkson had been originally booked to hit as part of her scotched 35-date summer tour. The full itinerary for her rescheduled trek is expected in two weeks, according to a management spokesperson. …

I don’t know. He was mentioned as “on-air talent.” I hope so.
Nevada I noticed that little bit about Kelly Clarkson too. That’s good news, IMO, because those are the kinds of venues she should have been touring in support of this album in the first place. I’m hoping she’ll hit the HOB or Hard Rock in Orlando. I’d love to hear these songs in a more intimate setting. Even acoustic would be cool, IMO. “Be Still” and “Sober” would be gorgeous just backed by piano and/or guitar.
