‘American Idol’ Finalist’s Battery Trial Postponed For Rehab

A former “American Idol” finalist facing felony battery charges is in a California rehabilitation facility, her attorneys said in court Wednesday ahead of her trial on battery and drug charges.

Jessica Sierra, 21, a top-10 contestant on the show in 2005, entered the facility in July for treatment of unspecified problems and will likely be there for several months, said attorney John Fitzgibbons…….

Daughtry offering fans a new brand of rock

Chris Daughtry knows that not all of the 3 million people who bought his band’s first CD are traditional rock fans.

“I definitely see people at shows, and you’d look at and go, ‘There’s no way … you’d catch them at a rock show,’” he said recently on the phone during a three-day stop in South Dakota. “But they’re here, and they look like they’re enjoying it; and they know every word to every song.”……..

Music industry seeks another champion as Kelly Clarkson, 50 Cent drop banner

This summer was supposed to be a “three-peat” for Kelly Clarkson and 50 Cent.

Much the way “Spider-Man 3,” “Shrek the Third” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” were titles slated to keep this season’s movie box office afloat, pop star Clarkson’s third CD, “My December,” and rapper 50 Cent’s third disc, “Curtis,” were titles considered to be surefire summer saviors.

A few undeniable summer hits certainly were needed. During the first half of the year, sales of digital tracks rose almost 50 percent from the same period last year. But CD sales fell 15 percent, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

“American Idol” finalist Chris Daughtry’s “Daughtry” is the best-selling CD of the year, and that’s actually a 2006 release. (You can see him at the South Carolina State Fair in October; scstatefair.org.)

Clarkson’s and 50 Cent’s track records looked like the right remedies, or at least Band-Aids, for an ailing music industry. Then things fell apart for both artists………

Federal Way digs on sale for $360,000

You voted for him on “American Idol,” now you can eat in Sanjaya Malakar’s kitchen and sleep in his bedroom.

The curiously coiffed crooner — actually, his soon-to-be stepfather — is selling the Federal Way home where the 17-year-old lived for two years before his life got swept up in Idoldom.

“We’re going to be moving to Hollywood in October,” Sanjaya’s mother, Jillian Blith, explained by phone from New York — the latest stop in the American Idols Live Tour ‘07.

“We just feel that we need to be down there for the (music) industry,” Blith said……..

Carrie Underwood’s New CD Is Carnival Ride

Carrie Underwood has chosen Carnival Ride as the title of her new album, her record label announced Wednesday (Aug. 29). It’s the follow-up to her debut CD, Some Hearts, which has been certified sextuple platinum by the RIAA for shipments of more than 6 million copies. Carnival Ride gets its title from the lyrics of one of the new songs she has recorded. “You step onto this ride called life, and it’s a crazy thing you don’t know anything about, but you get on it anyway,” the American Idol winner said. “You do what you can to lean different directions to try and get it to go where you want it to go, but you can’t stop it — it just keeps moving. That’s why Carnival Ride works as my album title. It describes the wonderful craziness that I’ve been through over the past couple years.”

Faris Is No Longer A House Bunny

Apparently Anna Faris believes in truth in advertising. The actress best known for starring in the horror movie spoof series Scary Movie is having the title of her latest film changed. The change better reflects the apparent goal of the movie, or at least appeals to the intended audience.

The movie that was formerly known as House Bunny stars Faris as a Playboy bunny who gets kicked out of the Playboy house and winds up in a college sorority where she leads the local band of misfits on a quest to keep their college house. That quest clearly involves making use of Faris’s character’s Playboy experience, so what better title to now give the move than I Know What Boys Like? So that’s the new title, according to MTV Movies Blog

Probably not a coincidence, that title is also the name of an ‘80s song by the Waitresses. Considering the movie also features the acting debut of American Idol contestant Katharine McPhee, I’m expecting a timely remake that can be marketed on. It’s actually a smart move. There’s definitely a limited appeal for a movie starring Faris, McPhee, and Colin Hanks, even if they do pose as Playboy bunnies (although McPhee plays a pregnant hippie, nothing sexy about that). By expanding on a song title, success can hopefully be found somewhere else in case the movie bombs.

Covington lives in ‘A Different World’

What do you do when a complete stranger hands you her infant to hold, then wants you to pose for a picture with the child and - believe it or not - autograph the baby?

“I was scared to death I was gonna hurt the little fella,” singer Bucky Covington said. “But I did it, and it’s just part of everything going on right now.”……

Rickey has Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride CD cover. I would have wanted something different for the cover, but Carrie is very pretty, so I guess that makes up for it.

I’m sure she will sell well. Let’s see if she gets 6x platinum again.

CMAs announced on GMA this morning. Carrie was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.

  6. 6 NOLA Aug 30th, 2007 at 9:22 am

Carrie Underwood has five nominations including Top Female Vocalist, Album of the Year for ‘Some Hearts,’ along with Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Video of the Year all for “Before He Cheats.” She was awarded two Academy of Country Music Awards last year-Top New Female and Single Record of the Year-in her first year to ever be nominated for a country music award.

    Very, very nice Carrie!

Kellie Pickler also got a nomination as Best New Female Country artist. But no Bucky :(. When do they announce the Grammy nominations? I know they have a million categories so maybe we’ll see noms for Daughtry, Kellie and maybe, maybe Elliott and Mandisa.

  8. 8 Kirsten Aug 30th, 2007 at 10:12 am

When do they announce the Grammy nominations?

IMO the Grammys take far too long to hand out awards. The eligibility period is from October 1, 2006 through to September 30, 2007. The nominations will be announced on Dec 6, 2007 and the awards themselves handed on on Feb 10, 2008. That’s why the Grammys seem so often to be giving awards to songs/albums that were “so two years ago”.

    Wide awake

….Q: If the Melissa Etheridge of 25 years ago were to move to L.A. today would she be caught up in the American Idol thing?
A: Oh, I would be anti-American Idol. When I was playing the bars in the 80s, Star Search told me they wanted to put me on the show. I said, “Uh-uh, not for me. I don’t want to become famous that way.” I would so not be on American Idol, no, no, no….

…Q: So what if American Idol’s producers asked you to be one of their celebrity tutors or judges next year?
A: You mean again? They ask me every year! The very first year I was like, “Ah this is cool.” And I enjoyed watching it. And the second year I remember calling one of the contestants who sang one of my songs. I knew the musical director there and I was really into it and might have considered it at first, maybe the second year. But common sense came over and I went, just because I’m enjoying it does not mean I have to be in it!…….

‘Idol’s’ Daughtry plays the state fair

Chris Daughtry, the bald-with-sideburns rocker from the fifth season of “American Idol,” will be performing Saturday at the Oregon State Fair.

The big-name show promises to be one of the most rousing concerts of the whole fair.

    Israeli singer needled on draft

The runner-up in Israel’s version of “American Idol” was urged not to shirk mandatory military service.

Marina Maximilian-Bluming came second in Wednesday night’s final of “A Star is Born”, despite widespread expectations that the 19-year-old diva would win.

Yisrael Hasson, a senior lawmaker with the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party, said disclosures during the top-rated television contest that Maximilian-Bluming had not served in the Israeli military had cost her the crown.

“The viewing audience has a hard time supporting draft-dodgers,” Hasson wrote Maximilian-Bluming in a letter that was leaked to Israeli media Thursday. “For me, it is shocking that you decided to skip national miltiary service or community service.”…..

Carrie’s such a beautiful girl, and her album cover is pretty. I just listened to her new single - it’s uncanny how much some of it sounds like Kellie Pickler! I never thought she and Kellie sounded even remotely alike before. I also thought she sounded like she was ’screaming’ a bit in places. The single will be another hit for her though because she’s the golden girl of country music.

Kellie Pickler also got a nomination as Best New Female Country artist.

Yay, Kellie! I hope she wins it this year.

Also hope to see Bucky up there next year!

  16. 16 angelia Aug 30th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

I think the reason Bucky was not honored is that he didn’t release his album until the Spring. Kellie’s album was released in 2006. So maybe next year for Bucky; he certainly seems to be a crowd favorite and his latest single (It’s Good To Be Us - which, incidentally shows some Bucky “growl”) has not been released officially but it was #74 on the Country charts earlier this week.

  17. 17 Preston Aug 30th, 2007 at 5:15 pm

I like Kellie, but I doubt she’ll be able to beat Taylor Swift in the Horizon award…

And Carrie’s new album cover is beautiful. Just… beautiful.

  18. 18 jbrad Aug 30th, 2007 at 6:25 pm

It will be interesting to see if Carrie can match the success of her first album this time. Personally, I dont think so. I cant imagine another cd with as many single possiblities as her first one.

  19. 19 star Aug 30th, 2007 at 7:51 pm

I’m not crazy about Carrie’s CD cover. She looks gorgeous, but something about it screams “Shania” to me (the outfit?).

Probably won’t stop me from buying it though. :)

I checked their schedule. They are having their annual Relly awards. Maybe Jordin is winning a Relly? There is a category called “Best Winning Reality Guest”. They are in Albany tonight and they have no concerts tomorrow (just have to ring the bell at NASDAQ), so she could be on the show.

    Big-City Woes Hit Country
Album sales for country artists have held nearly steady. Until now

The signal stat for the music industry right now is not the one you’ve already heard. That one shows total album sales down about 15% this year. (You may recall the music biz was not exactly going gangbusters last year, either. Or the year before.) The signal stat shows country music album sales down almost 30% so far this year.
