American Idol Judges Back In Kansas City

Downtown Kansas City was filled with heartbreak and joy this weekend. Dozens of American Idol hopefuls sang in front of the show’s judges. And, as FOX 4’s Dave Dunn shows us, many of them got a ticket to Hollywood, but we can’t tell you who!

One by one American Idol judges Randy, Simon, Paula, and new this season, Kara, arrived and met 50 lucky Kansas City contestants who started lining up at daybreak in hopes of getting their big break. Host Ryan Seacrest was also on hand on this final stop of eight cities to determine who goes back with them to Hollywood.

Miley Gets Headstart on 16th Birthday

In addition to the thousands of fans, who each paid $250 for the opportunity to party with the soon-to-be 16-year-old, a host of big-name celebrities, including American Idol runner-up David Archuleta, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, Steve Carell and many others, were on hand for the event.

More important for Miley than all the celebrity guests was her boyfriend, 20-year-old Justin Gaston, who not only showed up for the party, but also joined his gal-pal’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus and sister Brandi, onstage to sing Billy Ray’s hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.”

Archuleta the Adulterer

Wow y’all, David Archuleta kissed a “girl” and he liked it, I think. Lil’ David - who even at 55 years old will still be “Lil’ Davey” to me - got up close and personal with Minnie Mouse at Miley Cyrus’ 16th birthday party. You know what I did for my 16th birthday? I had a party in my backyard. You know what Miley did for her sweet 16? She rented out Disneyland and performed a concert for thousands of fans, including Steve Carell, Vanessa Williams and Jennie Garth.

“It introduces Jennifer the person versus all the characters,” she told MTV News about her new LP. (Read about yet another side of Jennifer — the fiancee — in our Newsroom blog.) “It shows my versatility as a vocalist coming out of singing the cover tunes from ‘Idol’ or ‘Dreamgirls.’ ”

Midway through Carrie Underwood’s concert at a sold-out Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates Friday, the country singer listed her anxieties as she performs. She’s concerned about falling (off a riser or down the stairs of a two-tiered stage) and wardrobe malfunctions (”Are my pants zipped?”). Despite huge success—the 2005 “American Idol” champ has sold more than 10 million records in her two-album career—she tries to show she’s like her fans.

Dancing with the Stars - Olympian Questionable with Injury

May-Treanor’s status is now in question, depending on which source you choose to listen to. Access Hollywood reported that the show’s producers had told them on Saturday that contrary to other published reports, she did not break her ankle. However, after this injury she is resting and will be reevaluated on Monday before her performance. Before this, another source had told Access Hollywood that May-Treanor was definitely out with an injury that would require surgery.

You have to think she needs to be careful with any injury she sustains. Sure, Cristian de la Fuente continued on last season with a shoulder injury that required surgery, but this wasn’t his life. Acting is his life, although currently he appears as an athlete in In Plain Sight. His acting career doesn’t depend on a healthy shoulder. May-Treanor’s volleyball career does depend on healthy ankles, and I would think it wouldn’t be something she’d want to mess around with.

Those pictures of David and Minnie are the most adorable things I’ve ever seen of him. The unabashed joy on his face. He’s just a kid without all of the angst or pressure of all of the expectations for him. He’s just goofing off! Now that’s priceless.

Glad to see the Foxes on Idol Predictions on Cook. From her mouth to GOD’s ears!

I think they are going to do well but getting a number one album is a stretch. They are both going against extremely hard competition on each of their release days. Hopefully most fans will except that slow and steady wins the race.

Someone on DC42 dug up an ASCAP entry for a song named Quietly, written by David Cook and Daniel Wilson and performed by David Cook.

    http://www.ascap.com/ace/search.cfm?requesttimeout=300&mode=results&searchstr=470438016&search_in=i&search_type=exact&search_det=t,s,w,p,b,v&results_pp=10&start=1

Daniel Wilson appears to be this guy:

    http://www.danwilsonmusic.com/

He cowrote the Dixie Chicks song “Not Ready to Make Nice”, which won them several Grammys a few years ago, and has also written with Jason Mraz, among others. He’s supposed to be known for intelligent lyrics and elegant melodies. I really, really hope this rumor turns out to be as true as the Light Out rumors were- The Dixie Chicks song is a great song!
(Sorry I haven’t figured out how to do shorter links yet!)

  14. 14 CathyMK Oct 6th, 2008 at 11:34 pm

Oops- I meant Light On, not Light Out, and now I can’t edit!

  15. 15 elisad Oct 7th, 2008 at 2:47 am

Oh, that guy co-wrote Did You Get My Message!(I didn’t know Jason co-wrote songs with other people, at least it didn’t feel that way. I don’t even feel he needs any producer, but that’s OT.) I love it! And I love TDC…(’s documentary film Shut Up & Sing). Yeah~

  16. 16 elisad Oct 7th, 2008 at 3:51 am

Can’t edit now… I didn’t check out that guy’s credits, until now. He also co-wrote Jason’s Song for a Friend and Details in the Fabric. Are you f**king kidding me? Song for a Friend is like my favorite Jason song ever. Details in the Fabric? It has James Morrison… OK that has nothing to do with the writer, but I’m psyched.

  17. 17 purplesmile Oct 7th, 2008 at 7:49 am

I love, love, love all those songs Dan co-wrote with Mraz, too! Did You Get My Message is a fun, fun song and Song For A Friend and Details in the Fabric are just beautiful, wonderful songs, with beautiful lyrics. And while I’m not a big country fan, I also loved the DC’s Not Ready To Make Nice.

It has James Morrison… OK that has nothing to do with the writer, but I’m psyched.

But, but, but Dan also co-wrote Once When I Was Little, which happens to be my favorite track (so far) from James Morrison’s new album. ;)

Cookie got himself another good one. Quietly should be a great song. :)

  18. 18 elisad Oct 7th, 2008 at 8:03 am

He co-wrote Once When I Was Little as well? Damn this can’t be true. Yeah~(James Morrison’s label is just horrible at picking singles BTW…)

  19. 19 IGetCranked Oct 7th, 2008 at 8:42 am

    Yayayay Jason!

    That Cook song sounds promising!

Dan also co-wrote Once When I Was Little which happens to be my favorite track (so far) from James Morrison’s new album. ;)

    OMG, mine too!!! Love. It.

And the thought of what David Cook could do with something along the lines of OWIWL……

  21. 21 purplesmile Oct 7th, 2008 at 1:42 pm

    It’s true! ;)

Dan also co-wrote Once When I Was Little which happens to be my favorite track (so far) from James Morrison’s new album. ;)

    OMG, mine too!!! Love. It.

I love it because it is, to me, the most reminiscent of his Undiscovered sound, which I absolutely love, love, love.

And the thought of what David Cook could do with something along the lines of OWIWL……

Like OWIWL and Details in the Fabric, and based on its title, heh, Quietly should also be an introspective song, no?
