‘Dance’ Star Brings Payne to ‘Fame’

She didn’t win on FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” but Kherington Payne is ready for a brush with big screen “Fame.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Payne is one of nine actors who have signed on for MGM’s remake of the 1980 musical classic “Fame.”

Crush is Number One
David Archuleta’s “Crush” is Number One of the Vh1 Countdown!  Yes this crazy fan girl and her crazy friend Fran are up at 3:55 in the morning on a Saturday (central time) to see the first play of the Countdown.

All that voting people!  We did IT!!!  My heart is pounding!  I apologize in advance for the spoiler, but this was just too big to keep to ourselves.  Wildcard to #1 in three weeks is just plain amazing, astounding, brilliant, incredible, fantabulous, and barely believable!

David Archuleta likes singing in the Trop

David Archuleta was walking peacefully, undisturbed, toward his seat in section 105, when a reporter spotted him. He was wearing a blue Rays jersey with his name across the back.

He didn’t have many thoughts on the Tampa Bay Rays, saying he hasn’t been keeping track of baseball.

“It’s fun to be here in Florida,” he said, though he added he was only staying in the area one night. He said he was trying to see his grandmother, who lives east of the area.

‘Fame’ remake lines up cast

MGM has compiled most of the lead cast for its accelerating remake of the 1980 musical “Fame.” Kristy Flores, Paul Iacono, Paul McGill, Naturi Naughton, Kay Panabaker, Kherington Payne, Collins Pennie, Walter Perez and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle have joined the ensemble.

“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” star Thomas Dekker also is in negotiations to take one of the remaining leads. And Debbie Allen, who played Lydia in the original, is rumored to be in line for a cameo, though not as the same character.

The film is expected to begin lensing in late November to make its Sept. 25 release date. MGM will distribute “Fame” in North America, while Lakeshore will handle international distribution and release the soundtrack.

A Strapped America Goes to the 99 cent store, And New Singles Storm the Top 40

The Cook single, by contrast, is a bit of an underperformer. With 109,000 downloads, Cook’s “Light On” makes a respectable Hot 100 showing at No. 17. But compared with fellow American Idol finalist David Archuleta, whose “Crush” debuted at No. 2 in August with 166,000 downloads in its first week, those numbers look a little… um, light. (Sorry.) Where Cook’s hit goes from here will depend on radio’s embrace, and so far things don’t look good: “Light On” is totally absent not only from the all-genre Hot 100 Airplay list but from both the Mainstream and Modern Rock charts, despite Cook’s status as the first Idol “rocker” winner and the presence of co-writer Chris Cornell.

Film tells ‘great story’ of Billy Graham

Billy: The Early Years focuses on the beginning of the Rev. Billy Graham’s illustrious evangelistic career, but it’s not just a film for Christians, say its lead actors.

“It’s a love letter to Billy Graham,” said Armie Hammer, who portrays a young Graham.

The movie includes performances by Martin Landau, Lindsay Wagner, Jennifer O’Neill and country singer Josh Turner and was directed by Robby Benson. The soundtrack, produced by Nashville’s Anastasia Brown, features songs by Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Sara Evans, Michael W. Smith, Brandon Heath, Roy Orbison, Melinda Doolittle and Josh Turner.

‘Rock of Ages’ takes a Journey back to ’80s

Big, indeed. The hole in the ozone layer gets exponentially more gaping from each performance of “Ages,” now in previews and opening Oct. 16 at New World Stages (340 W. 50th St.) with a cast that features “American Idol” alum Constantine Maroulis and “Hair” star Will Swenson.

The show mixes and matches a roster of power-rock hits from Journey and Poison, with songs like “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “The Final Countdown.”

Celebrity Rehab Trailer Unveiled

Many faces on the trailer are familiar (or were, once), while others may seem fairly new (honestly, I had no idea Rod Stewart even had a son). Gary Busey, Nikki McCabe (of American Idol fame), Steven Adler (who drummed for Guns ‘N Roses), Sean Stewart (referenced above), Tawny Kitaen (yes! It is that chick from that music video) and Amber Smith (who? I’m not sure) are part of the celebrity cast seeking help from Dr. Drew Pinsky this season. Rodney King (yes, as in the 1990s) will also try to sort some things out. Viewers of the first season will recognize Jeff Conaway, who gained much attention during his first Rehab stint. He’s back to get dried out, hopefully for good this time.

Carrie Underwood, all-American girls at Sears Centre

“How many all-American girls do we have in the crowd tonight?” Carrie Underwood boomed in her sweet Oklahoma accent before pulling a 3-year-old fan on stage Oct. 3 at a sold-out concert at Hoffman Estate’s Sears Centre. “Do people tell you you’re beautiful?” the former American Idol questioned before breaking into “All American Girl.” Playing to a predominately female crowed, women of all ages roared through four costume changes, a video montage highlighting Underwood’s accomplishments, and hits like “Don’t Forget to Remember Me,” “Wasted” and “So Small.”

New album ‘the real me’

Small Town Girl, released in 2006, was put together in a hurry to capitalize on her sudden fame from being one of the finalists on American Idol. Pickler was working on songs over the phone with Nashville co-writers while on an Idol tour and didn’t have much input on the CD’s direction.

“It was so rushed and, honestly, now that it’s out and I can be honest about it, there are songs on there I would never even cut,” said the North Carolina native of the CD, which included the hit Red High Heels.

Reba and Clarkson compliment with 2 voices

Having one big name act performing on stage will more times than not result in a great show. Having two superstars on the same stage at the same time, however, can sometimes spell disaster.

That was not the case at all Friday night at the EnergySolutions Arena as two of the biggest names in country and pop music, with two of the biggest voices, Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson, showed no signs of egos or diva attitudes while delivering an energetic and entertaining two hours of music.

Simon Cowell’s Idol salary is nothing to sneer at

HE GETS about $US70 million a year but sneering American Idol judge Simon Cowell deserves every penny, his former executive producer says.

“I think Simon is now earning something like $36 million a year from FOX alone but they can afford to pay him that because at one point we heard (FOX) were getting something like $900,000 and $1 million per 30 seconds in advertising revenue,” said Lythgoe, who is on the Gold Coast for the Australian Commercial Radio Conference.

Kherrington Payne is perfect for the snotty ballerina role. And no, I’m not saying she is snotty in real life (never met her), but I am pretty sure she can play one on tv.

Really wish they would have signed Mark Kamamura to this show because I could watch him dance all day.

I am seriously going to be looking out for what he does in the future. Love him!

I think Fame is going to be a musical movie, if I remember correctly. I know someone who is going to be in it. Good for Kherington on this role, but I don’t have high hopes for it.

I don’t know if VH1 is big or not. Anyhow..I’m happy David’s cute video is #1. When they replayed VH1 countdown this morning, I watched it. Even she talked about corn field. haha…Congrats David!!

Cook’s “Light On” will be fine. It’s just a beginning. Go Cook!

The VH1 Top 20 countdown is big…. gives national exposure to songs by artists on I-tunes and Billboard… most of the videos are pop/r&b, but rock acts get decent exposure … AC/DC’s new video made the Top 20, Staind and Daughtry made the Top 20 today as well.

  5. 5 soundscene Oct 11th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

VH1 is pretty much the only big music channel that still plays videos, so making the countdown, and being at #1 is pretty big for a video. They also replay the countdown a few times each week.

I’m surprised they didn’t cast Joshua in the Leroy part for “Fame”. He would be perfect for it and he looks a lot like Gene Anthony Ray, the actor who played him in the original movie.

So, do we believe ET, that the album is self titled? I know a lot of people think he’ll be more creative than that.

  15. 15 gingerly Oct 11th, 2008 at 11:57 pm

I don’t think it’s going to be self-titled. David has said when he hears the final product he will come up with a name. I think he’s much too creative for a self-titled record. (I sure hope I’m right.) Notice that they showed the magic rainbow pic when they said that. To me, it’s just another case of lazy journalism.

  16. 16 LK08 Oct 12th, 2008 at 12:21 am

I don’t know that much about all of this, but isn’t it pretty normal for new artists to self title their albums?

  17. 17 mj Oct 12th, 2008 at 12:35 am

I don’t know that much about all of this, but isn’t it pretty normal for new artists to self title their albums?

It’s pretty typical for Idols to self-title their albums, at least in the past few years. That’s probably why ET is assuming it’s self titled…

  18. 18 E Oct 12th, 2008 at 12:37 am

I don’t care if its selftitled, I’m more interested in the content.

On X-Factor, Britain’s version of American Idol, Simon Cowell chose Archie’s stylized “Imagine” for a 16-year old contestant to sing.

David Archuleta Influences Song Choice on X-Factor - Imagine That

American Idol Judge Simon Cowell selected David Archuleta’s version of “Imagine, right down to the similar guitar track and slight lyric change, for 16 year old Irish contestant Eoghan’s first X-Factor performance. X-Factor contestants are divided by age with one judge serving as mentor for each particular age group. Apparently, David Archuleta’s exemplary AI performance made such an impact on Simon Cowell, he now considers it a standard by which others should be judged. David has set the talent show bar pretty high. How did 16 year old Eoghan’s version of “Imagine” compare to David Archuleta’s? You be the judge.

You can check out the performance at Archuleta Fanscene.

From what I just witnessed on this video, Simon with the X Factor is trying to recreate last season’s American Idol with another young, cute teenage boy singing David’s material, but unfortunately (although the boy seems like a nice lad) Eoghan does not have the voice nor the heart nor the maturity of David. There really is no comparison at all. I’m not sure Simon is smart in trying to clone a once-in-a-generation experience.

  20. 20 abbysee Oct 12th, 2008 at 5:54 am

OK, I checked it out, and the youngster can sing really nicely, but the emotional impact was lacking.

P.S. There are two Simon’s the Xfactor one, and the American Simon, he forgets that we get glimpses of both. His duplicitous nature is hysterical.

ARchie will be appearing in the Macy’s DAy Parade this year. This is supposedly a clip from blender? it mentions the parade as well.

David in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade? I haven’t watched that thing in years, but if he’s going to make an appearance, I’ll break this trend!

  23. 23 maturin Oct 12th, 2008 at 9:42 am

    Slaps Simon (in my head).

Puhleeeeze. Do not try to clone our Archuleta. It cannot be done. Even a Cookfan can tell you that.

Pisses in his tea for good measure. (Sorry, Archie, I know you wouldn’t approve).

  24. 24 Mariam94 Oct 12th, 2008 at 12:02 pm

Haha you took the words right out of my mouth maturin.

I would like to ask why are these people still comparing Archie and Cook? It’s only going to create fan war and I’m sick and tired of this. LO is doing extrememly well. Being #17 on billboard on it’s very first week is a hell of an accomplishment. What am I saying? The comparison will never stop. I guess I’ll just buy three copies of Archie and Cook’s album and let the fans do the rest.

I cannot believe Simon was so easy on that guy! That performance was totally lackluster. Archie is most definitely leagues beyond this guy. I think Simon forced himself to give him a good review because it was Simon himself who picked the song for him. It’s official… my respect for Simon has gone totally down the toilet. :flush_tb:

  26. 26 smartcookie Oct 12th, 2008 at 12:43 pm

I never had any respect for Simon in the first place, so no problem there. He has a history, I think, of picking songs and same arrangements already done on one or the other. I think Katharine McPhee’s OTR was very similar to something someone did on X Factor, and there’s at least one more example. (All By Myself? Something like that.) Simon seems to be someone who sticks with what he, in his limited imagination, thinks works.

  27. 27 elisad Oct 12th, 2008 at 1:19 pm

Simon really sucks on TXF, or should I say, TXF REALLY sucks…way more so than Idol. It’s all about the judges, and the crappy group stuff…
