Matt Giraud delivers red-hot performance in Bay City

This is one of Matt Giraud’s few shows outside West Michigan — his first major solo show, the “American Idol” finalist told his crowd at Bay City’s State Theatre — but you wouldn’t know it backstage.

The Kalamazoo native was totally cool, talking about life post-“Idol” as neighbors might talk over the back fence about their lawns. And moments later, he was red-hot, opening tonight’s show with the Black Crowe’s “Hard to Handle.”

“But I never had an audience at a sound check before tonight, ” he said at the State Theatre, trying to hide an easy grin. “I just sat down next to them and sang right to them. So much for the rock star mystique!”

Carrie Underwood Brings Her Polished Play On Tour to Nashville

As though the ringmaster of her own circus, Underwood adorned a floor-length cape covering the back of her tight, flattering black leather pants. Adding to the theatrical ensemble, she completed the look with an accessorized jacket and sky-high stilettos. As she straddled the blood-red mic stand in front of her, she launched the evening with a feisty favorite regarding the infamous devil in disguise — the pesky “Cowboy Casanova” — and appropriately followed with the love-gone-wrong segue, “Quitter.”

“I think I speak for all of us when I say it’s good to be home, ” she said. Encouraging the crowd to stand up, dance and sing along, she reminded, “This is Nashville. I know you can sing.”

‘Glee’ Star Lea Michele is ‘Dorothy of Oz’

“Glee” star Lea Michele is following the yellow brick road to an all-new ‘Oz’ adventure, and we have a sneak peek at the upcoming CGI-animated musical ‘Dorothy of Oz’!

“It’s just really nice to get to step into a different world for a little while, ” says Lea. “I thoroughly enjoy being at William McKinley High School Monday through Friday at ‘Glee, ‘ but it’s been really great to step into another world and play another character for a little while. It only makes the job that I do every day even more enjoyable.”

Taking place where the original 1939 film left off, Dorothy (Michele) wakes up back in Kansas after the tornado has devastated her community. She finds a new means to transport back to Oz, only to discover that her three friends – Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), Lion (Jim Belushi) and Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) – have disappeared. It turns out a new villain, The Jester (Martin Short), is trying to take control of Oz, and Dorothy must band together new and old friends to defeat him.
