EPIC GOES FOR KARAOKE
Looking for its own American Idol, SonyBMG’s Epic Records has signed a deal with interactive karaoke restaurant Spotlight Live that could transform dinner guests into the record label’s next big star, The Post has learned…………….
YouTube unveils anti-piracy filters
Online video leader YouTube on Monday rolled out long-awaited technology to automatically remove copyrighted clips, hoping to placate movie and television studios fed up with the Web site’s persistent piracy problems.
The filtering tools are designed so the owners of copyrighted video can block their material from appearing on YouTube, which has become a pop culture phenomenon in its 2-year existence. The tools also give the owners of copyrighted video the option to sell ads around their material if they want the clips to remain available on YouTube.
To find and remove copyrighted music, YouTube already uses separate filtering tools developed by Los Gatos-based Audible Magic Corp……..
Kelly Clarkson
Whatever one thinks of Kelly Clarkson’s artistic achievements thus far, it’s hard to deny her the respect she’s earned for weathering virtually nonstop bashing of both her talent — admittedly, a fair target for anyone who steps in front of a microphone, of course — and the very core of her being.
The latter aspect — she’s been slagged for being a puppet, for refusing to be a puppet and (most ridiculously) for allowing herself to physically deteriorate to the point where she’s a candidate for a spot on “Celebrity Fit Club.”
Clarkson cast aside most of those demons at a spirited, if inconsistent, perf that showcased her natural affability and capacity for tapping into the energy of her aud, on the one hand, and her inability to recognize her limits — which she hit most forcefully when trying to cut her way through the set’s most overamped numbers………
KELLY’S GREEN BUT STILL GREAT
KELLY Clarkson - the test-tube pop star who’s managed to shed the stigma of “American Idol” and spit in the collective eye of her record-company handlers with the release of her latest, self-penned CD - inched closer to complete music credibility with a short and mostly sweet show at the Beacon Theatre.
At Sunday’s gig, the first of three concluding tonight, Clarkson was a mix of giddy, girlish excitement and straight-up self-assurance. She seemed to know her set was going to kill…..
Report: ‘Idol’ judge Paula Abdul living with boyfriend, talking marriage
The American Idol judge and her beau JT Torregiani are now living together in her Beverly Hills home after only five months of dating, according to an insider in In Touch Weekly’s October 8 issue, who added the couple is “already talking about getting married.”
“She is a different person since he came into her life,” the insider told In Touch about the Hey Paula star. “She has lost seven pounds and always goes to the gym.” ……..
Carrie Underwood dating ‘Gossip Girl’ star Chace Crawford?
Country music singer Carrie Underwood was spotted kissing Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford Friday, October 12, at NYC club Marquee sparking rumors of a new celebrity romance.
“They were canoodling all night and stayed until close,” one eyewitness told OK!……….
How They Got Their Big Break
Search all you want, there is no magic formula for fame and fortune.
The truth is, big breaks don’t just happen; people make them happen–through hard work, networking, courage, passion and even pain. And as much as modern culture has glorified the notion of the “big break” ( American Idol, anyone?), lasting success has less to do with singular, transcendent moments than it does with incremental progress and unflagging grit…..
Live Review: Daughtry in Phoenix
It would be so easy to rip apart rock singer Chris Daughtry, who helms the band Daughtry.
For one, of course, he was a contestant on pop-idol machine “American Idol.” Then, during his 70-minute concert at Phoenix’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum Sunday (10/14), he donned a T-shirt with the words “Corporate Retail Still Sucks.” (If it wasn’t for “corporate retail,” Daughtry wouldn’t have the fastest-selling debut rock record of all time.) And he flexes his biceps with every grip of the microphone……..

Paula Abdul Dishes on the Idol Auditions
October 15, 2007
It just wouldn’t be American Idol without a little name-calling from Simon Cowell, now would it?
“He [now] calls Randy and I ‘Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.’ I’m Dee, Randy’s the Dum!” Paula Abdul told PEOPLE over the weekend at Lili Claire Foundation’s 10th Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction……
And Abdul agrees. “Last season, I’m going to be real honest, I wasn’t as excited, I wasn’t sure, I wasn’t certain. As the season progressed it was fun to see how Jordin [Sparks] really came through, and she’s such an amazing kid. This season the auditions [have] some very, very exciting talent. All different—good-looking kids, crazy kids, great back stories, interesting backgrounds, and kids that really went out there, went out on a unique limb to be different and to capture our attention.”
Still, not everyone is hitting the right notes with the judges, Abdul concedes. “Oh God, there’s going to be one person who’s probably going to have a bigger career than William Hung, let me tell you!” —Jenny Sundel
Kelly C. getting nice reviews. And as for BMG/Sony doing its own Idol…does this mean they are breaking away from AI the TV show?
Gee Paula promises exciting, different talent with great back stories. I guess they all got the memo about last season. She claims to already be more excited than she was last year. Have they even had Hollywood week yet?
Whatever happened to her supposed planned engagement with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Roma ?

Actually I still think Anthony Federov would’ve been better ( but who am I to say ?).
CLAY AIKEN JOINS THE FUNNIEST SHOW ON EARTH
January 18 - May 4, 2008 on Broadway
Clay Aiken, who became a music superstar following his success on the American Idol television series, will join the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Monty Python’s SPAMALOT, making his Broadway debut in the role of Sir Robin, at the Shubert Theatre, New York, from January 18 to May 4, 2008.
Tickets are available online now at telecharge.com or by calling (212) 239-6200/(800) 432-7250.
Directed by Mike Nichols, who won his eighth Tony Award for his direction of the new musical, Monty Python’s SPAMALOT has a book by Eric Idle, “lovingly ripped-off” from the screenplay of the Pythons’ best- loved film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. The music is by Eric Idle and John DuPrez.
Clay Aiken, who has sold more than 6 million albums; co-authored a best-selling book; and, played six sold-out concert tours, said “I really couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful group of people to work with. Let’s not lie, the chance to work with legendary creative minds like Mike Nichols and Eric Idle is, on its own, a reason to jump at this opportunity. But, that’s not all. The producers and creative folks I have had the chance to meet and work with so far have been unbelievably welcoming and wonderful. They’ve really made me feel at home already, and I haven’t even started yet!”
Director Mike Nichols said: “Clay Aiken is amazing beyond that glorious voice. Turns out he is an excellent comic actor and a master of character. People will be surprised by his wide ranging talent, since the first impression is of great country charm and a singer to remember. This guy is not only a star, he is a lot more. We are lucky to get him for SPAMALOT.”
SPAMALOT author and original Python Eric Idle commented: “This is great news. I have been a Clay Aiken fan ever since I took my daughter to see him live on the second season of American Idol and she held up a big sign of his name. Maybe now it should read ‘American Idle.’”

**wonders how Clay will look in tights**
Well I always thought Broadway was his calling.
Somehow I would rather not know.
Broaday is a good way to keep the money coming in, esp. if it’s a hit show like Spamalot and CP.
Is that Simon in disguise?
There’s nothing wrong with doing Broadway infact you can have a longer career there than in the charts. It’s also not a career for the faint-hearted.
LOL at Clay playing Sir Robin. I saw this play about two years ago. It’s fantastic. I think David Hyde Pierce was playing Robin at the time, if I’m remembering correctly. Alot of gay jokes at the knight’s expense, though. I guess Clay isn’t worried about igniting rumors, is he?

Page 6 had a the same gossip blurb about Carrie and her new bf. According to the NY Post, they were at some hotspot together and Carrie was “bitchy and nasty” to the staff. Hmmm.
“…spotted kissing Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford.”
ROFL. Someone named Chace starring on ‘Gossip Girl’ is a guy?
I thought for a moment there we’d have some REAL news to fantasize… er, uh…banter about.
Never mind. Nothing to see here.
Carrie Underwood i hope for her sake she did not dump Tony Romo..If his play deminishes and the fans thinks it is her..It will not be a warm welcome in Texas.Don’t mess with Texas or thier football.
Found on Pulse, from the Wall Street Journal:
Mr. Hills typically charges $50,000 to $100,000 per track, up from $35,000 to $50,000 last year, according to his lawyer, David M. Ehrlich. Mr. Hills receives half this sum up front from the record label and the other half after the song is completed and approved. That money comes as an advance: After the label recoups his production fee, Mr. Hills receives production royalties that typically amount to about 4% to 5% of the music’s retail cost, prorated based on how many tracks he produced.
Mr. Hills says he will vary his fees if it will broaden his impact on a project. “Instead of a label paying $75,000 or $100,000 for a track, I’ll do multiple tracks for $50,000 each. Let’s just make a sound, an album, and we can all make money.”

Tabloids aren’t known for accuracy and they hate Carrie for not being a trainwreck of Britney/Lindsey/Paris proportions. So they lie about her to create news.
Clay’s mom told me that Carrie really IS nasty and bitchy.
