A poster on DCO commented that she actually knows the ESPN editor who did the montage. He’s an Emmy-award winner and a “huge fan”. What a nice compliment for David!

Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s funny is that Simon later said he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what he meant when he said à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“worthyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  to DC even though he said it twice to two different people! I guess some of Paulaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s loopy-ness rubbed off on him. Haha!

Haha, you could be right! I loved the montage of him mispronouning a bunch of names on the Best of the Rest show. The voiceover asks “but is he doing this on purpose?” and shows Simon saying to Paula, “I think I’m just going to try to get all of the names wrong today.” and she just cracks up. Then a guy comes in and Simon pronounces the name and the guy goes “yes”, and Simon, under his breath, goes “damn.” That just had me cracking up.

Rewatching is kind of fun. I like watching the show without the sense of “omg how is my favorite going to do?!” and being all nervous. Heh.

ETA: There really are some great moments in that montage – from the clips of Bobby Bowden and JoePa to the lyrics “but you’re still standing”, and the clip of Phil Fulmer being carried off the field at his final game at Tennessee – those just fit so well with the lyrical content of the song. But I think my favorite clip, just purely for the way the visual fits so perfectly with the lyrics, is the guy making the catch and basically doing a backflip as the lyric “I’m losing faith in gravity” is sung. Brilliant! ESPN editors FTW!

So much word to this, and your entire post, smallie. I’m proud to say he was my pick from the very beginning because of exactly what you mentioned. Such a difference between his looks and his demeaner/personality. Very intriguing. Also, after he got his ticket and walked back out to Ryan, who else was waiting for this “punk poseur”? His mom, who he gave a big hug. He had me right there.

That ESPN montage gave me a grin a mile wide. I love sports montages, and this one was just a treat. I hope sports nut DC gets to see it.

I had no problem with personality and AI 7. I wanted to see a select group of talented artists, and for the most part, that’s what we got. Maybe the characters cast were not as drama worthy as Simon needs, but they were fine IMO.

I just cannot see myself invested in any singer like I was this season and Season 4. OK, maybe addicted is a better word. It seems impossible at this point in time.

Someone has now posted the Heroes/college football montage as a separate youtube. Man, ESPN did a great job of editing this. My favorite part, naturally, is the Georgia highlight on the words “you’re still standing” in the first chorus. But probably the most impressive editing is the series of hits with the drumstrikes on the bridge.

Omg, I noticed that too! Is there some British usage of the term worthy where it means something is bit goody-two-shoes or holier-than-thou or something? Because I could kinda see that as being Simon’s criticism of Brooke and DC somehow. With Brooke, the reasons are more obvious, but I feel like Simon almost had the same reservation about DC, even though it was a bit more subtle.

DC’s audition was interesting because of the cognitive dissonance in his physical appearance with the way he answered the judges’ questions. In comes this nerdy looking guy (I say that lovingly) with this poseur-ish hair (again, lovingly) that looked to be some sort of an attempt at a punk rock or emo look, so you expect the guy to be an insecure/overconfident tool with something to prove. But then he opens his mouth to speak, and he’s this mild-mannered, respectful take-home-to-mom type guy. I don’t think Simon thinks much of “nice” people as compelling television characters– I feel like his comment about his friends was an attempt to provoke something, and he was almost disappointed that DC was so not edgier or more defensive. Honestly, I remember being a bit confused as a viewer about whether I’d care about this guy. (Then of course he opens his mouth to sing and it’s this awesome gruff but soulful rock voice and I decided cared.) Heh, I’ve obviously thought a bit too much about this topic of what Simon’s worthy comment meant, and how he initially felt about DC…

That Kelly cover is getting a ton of coverage in a lot of the gossip-y blogs.

I’m mixed on it. Don’t think it looks like her, but makes me think it will be a catchy, poppy song and hopefully, a big hit for her. Of course, that’s major assumption on my part and it may just end up being a rip-off of Katy Perry.

The two Davids have been agreed to have released both disappointing debut albums. The truth of the matter is the other David really stepped up of his game and his likeability factor. I’m talking about David Archuleta. His debut single, “Crush” landed #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 while David Cook’s “Light On” only peaked as far as #3. Archie has lots more charisma than David C. these days. Yeah we have agreed David C’s the right Idol winner but is Archie leaving David Cook behind? Archie releases another cheesy teen pop song that will surely be the new song that girls will go “GaGa” for the next couple of months or so.

“A Little Not Too Over You” is the second single off Archie’s debut CD “David Archuleta”. It may be considered “Crush part.II” but there are some qualities that would defy that. Even though “Crush” speaks of Archie’s feelings towards a girl (hooray for Archie!), “A Little Too Not Over You” shifts towards a melancholic atmosphere and the worst thing that will happen to a teen boy teen girl relationship. The so-ever-irritating-teenage-drama-love-whatever “Break-ups”. I know I may sound a bitch but I think it’s a little bit to early for 5 ft. something Archie to be singing of break-ups. (Forgive me Archuleta fans…). Even though I don’t like the idea of Archie singing these kinds of songs it amazingly fitted his musical style. His puppy dog eyes have charmed millions of girls with “Crush” and now with this new song “A Little Too Not Over You” which somehow suits my taste and approves of David Archuleta’s talent to be recognised. He’s charming than ever and is definitely here for a long-term career (oops! I’m overreacting again!) Anyways, this song is well chosen for a release this time of the year. Perfect with the so-ever cheesy video of Archie and a hot girl. Enough of the rant! If you like Archie’s song, download it (legally!)

There was a lot of speculation that Jett Travolta was autistic, but the Travoltaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s being Scientologists and all eschewed traditional treatments for him.

Thats really bad, when this kind of things happen somehow parents always feel guilty about it, I hope that the death of the young man won ´t be becuase they didn ´t use traditional medicine… my thoughs are with his family, it won ´t be easy to accept the lost of a family member, less when he was so young…

Remember a couple of years ago when American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, for the follow-up to her six-times-platinum Breakaway, recorded a bunch of self-penned, not-very-good songs and called it an album? And then Clive Davis tried to get her to do new ones, but she didn’t listen, and then her stinky record totally flopped? Clive Davis would never hold a grudge, right? By the way, has anyone seen the cover of Kelly Clarkson’s latest single?

The cover from Kelly Clarkson’s “comeback” single was discussed a bit in the comments for yesterday’s 2009 predictions post, but I figured it deserved a thread of its own, since reactions have been pretty polarizing. Is it a sign that Kelly is really, really being punished for the flop of My December by being forced into a Katy Perry-like makeover, complete with crappy oral sex jokes (note the lollipop)? Is the title “ironic”? (I’d guess the answer to that one is “probably.”) Where do you find a font that has a “K” with a devil tail? What does this mean for the pyro-to-vocals ratio of her inevitable American Idol appearance? (Also, what’s that shade of lipstick she’s wearing? I think it would look pretty good on me, to be honest.)

Not everyone is as wary of the cover as I am, of course: Reactions from commenters yesterday that were positive included “looks like an album cover from 1977″ and “I love the kinda Annie-ish tone to it. ” And British pop omnivore Tom Ewing thinks that it looks like a Pulp single. Maybe I’m just scarred by the last year of American popà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ particularly “Suck” writer Max Martin’s credit on “I Kissed A Girl”à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ to think of these much better antecedents for the above imagery.
