I agree with this so much. Especially the point that Adam is sexier than every other male model in the magazine. And the magazine photos are WAY more gorgeous than the online photos.

P.S. Add me to those who believe Adam Lambert will indeed be immensely successful. I am among those who measure success more broadly than by US record sales, however. I also agree that the poor guy has some heavy expectations heaped upon him, from all sides and by everyone. While true all of this buzz and media love is amazing for him, I can’t help but see some of it as hopeful coattail riding as well. To be expected, but not optimal in my view for someone so new on the scene. Happy for him though!

I’m curious about how you define “an unsuccessful contestant on Idol”, though. Are the ones who make Top 36 successful? (He was Top 36.) What about Top 13? Top 10? Top 4? Or the winner? I don’t see how you can draw a line on that one.

Lynne, as far as I know: Alex seems to be friends with a lot of the Top 13 and he sometimes hung out with them during the show; he lives in LA. He goes to college in Florida. He has done some work for MTV, including some stuff with Jim Cantiello. And he has funny tweets.

I think Adam’s team pretty much gave up on sales for TFM when they decided to post the video on Myspace.

Agree with this but I don’t think “gave up” are the right words. In fact I would think that TfM was NEVER intended as a money maker nor was it ever intended to elicit sales as a single or to chart…at least in the pure marketing sense.

IMHO the intent of TfM was two-fold. One, it’s placement as a credit’s song for 2012 and two, an introduction of Adam to the world outside of the AI bubble. Look at it’s roll out: a short blip trailer at the 2012 site that was picked up by on-line media, a few strategically placed tv entertainment shows (known to be favorable to Adam), the announcement of a longer version of the song at TII, and then the whole video (free) on MySpace.

No radio spins, no off-line press hyping “The song” per se, no “live” performances on TV talk shows. I think it only went to I-tunes add because the fanbase was clamoring for it…I think the initial intention was to see the response at TII and the movie and then add it to I-tunes.

The bottom line is the song was recorded for the movie and the movie soundtrack. If it moves beyond that (like it apparently has because it looks like it may be added to the debut album) then it is only because their seems to be a “market” for the song standing on its own. Considering how many songs are incorporated in a movie, or played over the credits it’s always interesting when one breaks free and becomes a “hit” on its own. See: Clarkson, Kelly–Breakaway.

Even Shania Twain had a power ballad in her live arena rock show. They are kind of a rock n’ roll staple and have been since ‘” oh, I don’t know ‘” maybe Led Zeppelin.

‘Stairway From Heaven’  is my least fave Zepplelin song, unless sung by Dolly. Her version is beautiful.

Even so, TFM is not a good power ballad, no matter how well Adam sings it.

In your opinion it’s not a good power ballad. Taste is subjective.

….and it’s dangerous water to tread thinking that Adam might have been drunk or drinking…..he could just have been pissed off.

I didn’t buy Kris’  itunes bc I don’t have an IPOD’ ¦.waiting for the actual CD’ ¦.yes there some of us out there

I don’t have an iPod or even an mp3 player. But I do have computers and they all can burn CDs and DVDs so I can take my music with me.

I bought Kris’ single and then went back and bought his iPass (or whatever it’s called) so I get the album when it comes out. Odd thing though, I do not have 2 copies of the single even though it downloaded twice and did not get a credit for buying it twice.

With all that said, many people do prefer the physical CDs manufactured by the labels feeling it will be better quality, plus they want the liner notes.

I do wonder whether Adam ‘” if he’s actually in Florida ‘” will stick around and go to Kris’ concert tomorrow. Or whether he’d skip it (in part as to not take any of the attention off Kris)

I’d say, given from what we’ve seen from Adam so far, if he is still in Florida and not booked, he’ll go.

I don’t think Time for Miracles will ever conserve much energy. From the bridge on, it would have most singers on oxygen.

I don’t see why this song would be so hard to sing. NoBo was hard to sing because it didn’t have anough breathing space for a singer but TFM is a very nice and relaxed song. It has some high notes in the end but they are not really THAT high (meaning not impossible). It has a big arrangement but you can prerecord a backround track. The only thing you have to rearrange is the background vocals in the end of the song where Adam kind of duets with himself. So either bring in someone to sing backup or rearrange.

I think they are just letting this song promote the movie by word of mouth and the video before TII and will do the real heavy promtion when it comes time to sell Adam’s album.

That’s my take. The real goal is to sell Adam’s new album. TFM is just a bonus track.

Amazon sales have been speculated to death, but notice that that is where the real changes are happening. Album sales are happening. It would seem that people are seeing the TFM video and are buying the album.

The future will tell. I have gone as far out on limb as I choose to do. Speculation from this corner has ended.

I have to agree with any idea that all women have the same taste, but the title would not have read as well if it said that only “some women ” want to have sex with Adam Lambert. Hyperbole sells.

2012 bombing might even be better for Adam. That song is doing him no favors, so he could move on a lot faster. If the movie does well, he’s probably saddled with it for a while, and the stigma that comes with it. I’m anxious to hear something that’s ‘Adam.’  Like pre-AI Adam with the confidence and connection to his music. Not pre-AI music, just pre-AI attitude. Bring on the punk/ glam!

It’s a disaster flick. It’s not going to be Oscar nominated. However, going out on limb here, the song will be around on Oscar night. The industry seems to love Adam and he sang the hell out of that song. The song along with special effects may be the only thing from this movie that gets an Oscar nod. Adam and his presumed band need to learn the tune. They are going to have to play it for a while.

I would say its obvious that music sales have been sliding the past few years. 99 cents might not be a lot, but it’s easy to download for free (no, I don’t do it). I’m pretty sure I read box office receipts have been down, too. I’m too tired to look it up, though.

BO is up right now, but everyone attributes it to a combination of highly anticipated films (Harry Potter, Twilight, Where the Wild Things Are, etc), sequels, and a much higher ticket price over the last couple of years. Basically, no one takes it seriously as a marker within the industry.

Roland Emmerich’s isn’t really one of the anticipated ones that I can tell. Independence Day/ disaster flick type stuff seems to be out of vogue, and usually are in a depression/ war era. Not to mention the bumped release date. They got lucky that Holmes is now going for Oscars with the new Christmas release date, but the people who would see 2012 are the same people who would see This Is It, and that could be a problem. There seems to a big ? as to how it will do.

ETA: Even a lot of the S/FX geeks I know are “wait and see” on this one.

The Details article is titled, ‘Why Does Every Woman in America Want to Sleep with Adam Lambert?’  Nancy Jo Sales, Vanity Fair contributing editor, wrote the story. Did she author the headline? Doubt it, but it’s catchy, isn’t it? In the article, Sales never actually says that every woman wants to bed him, but elaborates on his emerging as ” ¦a new American sex symbol’ ¦and how ‘Americans of every persuasion proved defenseless against Lambert’s vigorous pelvic exertions [in concert].’ 

Selling out? No. Adam was loud and proud in Rolling Stone and is again in Details. What he’s selling is the Adam brand and hopefully a ton of music. Is he capitalizing on his good looks and sensuality? Yes. That’s entertainment business as usual. Strategic? Yes. Compare the covers of Rolling Stone and Details magazine.

I thought Danyl was bad and not just in comparison to Adam, Jamie has disapointed me since the start of the live shows, Joe is the same cutesy boy type they have each year go far but fails to sell cd because his voice is just ok.
The only ones who I believe have a potential are the girl band but only for a single and maybee Lucie, she didn’t sing My Funny Valentine nearly as well as Melinda Doolitle but it was still the best of the night for me and she has the looks that helps to sell.
