Idol Headlines for 10/29/07

Today’s Idol headlines after the jump…

Packing up, moving out
As the fair comes to a close, vendors say they’ll be back

….The biggest one-day draw was Saturday, when 170,000 people showed up for an on-stage performance by former “American Idol” finalist Kellie Pickler.

“There’s no doubt that Kellie Pickler packed the house,” said Frenkel, who noted that this year’s event drew attendees from Florida, Alabama and Georgia……

Bucky Covington & Jason Michael Carroll

Bucky Covington of American Idol fame and Jason Michael Carroll who’s known for such hits as “Alyssa Lies” both performed in Tulsa at Cain’s Ballroom Sunday.

FOX23’s Justin Wilfon sat down with both of them for an exclusive interview.

Just hours before the show it’s time for a sound check on one of country’s music’s hottest tours…….

Cheery Clarkson sings her way out of rocky summer

Kelly Clarkson hasn’t had a great year. The first season “American Idol” champ was taken to task over the direction of her new album in a very public dispute with record industry head honcho Clive Davis, and her summer tour was sacked due to lagging ticket sales.

But Clarkson weathered the storm Sunday with a strong, confident performance at a near-capacity Fillmore Detroit……

The English beat: They kick our butt on the national anthem

OK, I had to switch over to the Giants-Dolphins game on Fox to see the intro. The Star-Spangled Banner was nice and respectful (which is a small victory owing to our friendly relations with the Brits, because we might not get such a warm reception in other countries).

Then it was time for God Save The Queen, by none other than Paul Potts, the first-ever winner of “Britain’s Got Talent,” the forerunner to “American Idol.” Wow. I wasn’t even moved by his performance but by the 90,000 or so singing along. I know, they wouldn’t know the words to our anthem. But it reminded me of the kind of passion that makes the World Cup the best spectacle in sports. And it also struck me that we never, ever hear a crowd sing-along of our anthem.

I am waiting for the first spontaneous song to break out in the middle of a drive, and for the coaches to turn around with their What’s that? look

Pictures Of American Idol’s Diana DeGarmo Performing At The Wildhorse Saloon In Nashville

…It was obvious that John Rich sees a lot of promise in Diana DeGarmo. He talked her up big time (not that she needed it), and the big-wigs in the balcony seemed to be overwhelmingly receptive of her as a performer….

Lewis storms to top of charts

X-Factor winner Leona Lewis went straight to the top of the singles charts with “Bleeding Love”, the Official Charts Company said on Sunday.

“Bleeding Love” outsold Take That’s “Rule the World” by more than two to one, ensuring last week’s number two was a non-mover and making Lewis’s record — with sales of 218,000 — the fastest selling single in 2007 in its first week of release…..

    I miss NOLA.

I wonder where NOLA has been?

For all you DWS fans I sure you are all familiar with Bruno and Len they had a bust up on SCD this weekend.

Bruno: Judge or Joker? - Strictly Come Dancing

  3. 3 CarieB Oct 29th, 2007 at 1:58 pm

    Hi Lisa,

It says that video is “unavailable”. Bad link or operator error on my part?

  4. 4 Tony Oct 29th, 2007 at 2:29 pm

A little off topic, but, is anyone watching Australian Idol? (I’m only on the top 5 episode so don’t ruin it for me! lol). It completely blows it’s American counterpart out of the water in terms of talent and fostering of the contestants.

And get this: the judges actually CARE about the contestants!

  5. 5 Lisa B Oct 29th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

    It works for me Carie.

  6. 6 jersey Oct 29th, 2007 at 2:51 pm

I couldn’t get it to work either, Lisa. It says “this video is unavailable”.

  7. 7 Lisa B Oct 29th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

It’s a BBC video maybe it’s not available Stateside sorry.

  8. 8 CarieB Oct 29th, 2007 at 3:12 pm

  9. 9 Lisa B Oct 29th, 2007 at 3:44 pm

    No that’s not it.
A couple put in an extra lift the pro dancer concerned breaks the rules every year. All the judges penalised them bar Bruno who gave them a perfect score.

At the results show Len was yelling at Bruno. Bruno is defintely not flavour of the month with the rest of the judges.

Apparently, the Grammy Nomination lists have leaked. These nominations will be narrowed down to the set of 5 (or so) names that will be announced in early December (6th). There are 347 nominations for best new artist. I guess this list isn’t very selective. Some of these nominations :surprise_ee: Okay, I’ll be serious. The only name on that list I expect to see nominated for Best New Artist is Daughtry. I don’t think any of those albums will be nominated for Album of the Year with the possible exception of Daughtry.

    Welcome back Kirsten!!!!!!

  13. 13 Kirsten Oct 29th, 2007 at 4:01 pm

Song of the Year (673 Nominations)- Songwriter award

    Kelly Clarkson:
“Never Again” - Kelly Clarkson and Jimmy Messer
“One Minute” - Kelly Clarkson, Kara DioGurdi, Chantl Kreviazuk and Raine Maida

    Daughtry:
“Crashed” - Dana Calitri, Chris Daughtry, Nina Ossoff and Kathy Sommer
“It’s Not Over” - Chris Daughtry, Gregg Wattenberg, Mark Wilkerson and Brett [Ace] Young

    Carrie Underwood:
“So Small” - Luke Laird, Hilary Lindsey and Carrie Underwood

Fantasia’s “When I See You” and “Put Up Your Game” is nominated, but she was not a writer. Ditto with Taylor’s “Just to Feel that Way”, Katharine’s “Over It”, Carrie’s “Before He Cheats” and Elliott’s “Wait for You”

I don’t think Daughtry stands a chance against “The Hairy Aureolas” for best new artist.

    Welcome back, Kirsten…you were missed!

Hits Daily Double has revised its estimates regarding Carrie’s first week sales:

Arista Nashville’s Carrie Underwood is in line to debut at #1 this week on the HITS’ Album Sales chart, with Carnival Ride looking at somewhere in the vicinity of 525-530k after a very active weekend.

  16. 16 Kirsten Oct 29th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

I guess this list isn’t very selective.

Nope. These are the names put forward by the artist/label/whoever. You can’t win if you aren’t nominated. Obviously, there will be a major cull. It is kind of interesting which songs/arists are being put forth in each category though.

    Pop Awards:

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (163 nominations)
Kimberley Locke: “Band of Gold”, “Change”
    Katharine McPhee: “Over It”
    Jordin Sparks: “Tattoo”

(oops, forgot to check for Kim in the previous categories, sorry)

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance (144 nominations)
Taylor Hicks: “Just To Feel That Way”
    Elliott Yamin: “Wait for You”

Okay….William Shatner is also nominated in this category for “What Kind of Fool Am I”…hmmm….

Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals (104 nominations):
    Daughtry: “Home”

Best Pop Vocal Album (264 nominations):
    Taylor Hicks: “Taylor Hicks”
Kimberley Locke: “Based on a True Story”
    Katharine McPhee: “Katharine McPhee”
    Elliott Yamin: “Elliott Yamin”

So cool seeing the nominations. Thanks Kirsten! I would think Daughtry is a shoo-in for a best new artist nom with the biggest-selling album of the year. I expect Carrie’s Before He Cheats to land in some category. And maybe Elliott in Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Wait for You. Those all seem to have a broadbase of critical and commercial success enough to get a nomination somewhere.

  18. 18 Kirsten Oct 29th, 2007 at 4:27 pm

    R&B:

Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (31 Nominees)
    Fantasia: “When I See You”

    Best R&B Song(90 Nominees)
Fantasia: “When I See You” (songwriter award, she did not write it)

Best Contemporary R&B Album (26 nominees)
    Fantasia: “Fantasia”

So cool seeing the nominations. Thanks Kirsten! I would think Daughtry is a shoo-in for a best new artist nom with the biggest-selling album of the year..

Of course, this brings up the question of who the award would go to if Daughtry wins, since the artists on the album are not the current band members. Does anyone know? Would it go to the writers or to the performers? Both? Enquiring minds want to know.

    Welcome back, Kirsten!

Of course, this brings up the question of who the award would go to if Daughtry wins, since the artists on the album are not the current band members.

Holy Milli Vanilli Batman! Never thought of that. Great question. Since that award is for the artist and not the album, I assume it would go to the current lineup. But that’s just a guess.

Supposedly ballots “must be received (Not Postmarked) by November 7, 2007″ so whatever is on the charts in October will probably be influential.

A trailer for Blake’s album, “Audio Day Dream,” has been posted on youtube and his official site. In the background, you can hear parts of “Know Your Name.” Josh Hoge wrote the song and confirmed to Sarah after the Elliott Yamin concert last night that it would be a one of Blake’s singles.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9-cECS7yUQ

In the meantime, Ken Barnes got to listen to a preview of the first single which is called, “Break Anotha.” He says it goes to radio tomorrow.

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/2007/10/blake-sets-albu.html?loc=interstitialskip

I’m not sure why Ken doesn’t realize Blake’s album is entitled “Audio Day Dream” since it’s listed as such on Blake’s official site.

  26. 26 Tony Oct 29th, 2007 at 5:04 pm

It would be great if Elliott scored a nomination. If Kellie, Daughtry, and Bucky possibly got one too, would that make them the first non-winners to score nominations?

  27. 27 gemlake Oct 29th, 2007 at 5:06 pm

As for possible Idol nominations, I think the following are good to excellent possibilities:

    Kelly
-Best Country Collaboration (”Because of You”)

    Fantasia
-Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (”When I See You”)
-Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group (”Put You Up On Game”)

    Carrie Underwood:
-Best Female Country Vocal Performance (”Before He Cheats” and/or “So Small”)
    -Best Country Song (”So Small”)
-Record of the Year (”Before He Cheats”)

    Daughtry
    -Best Rock Album (Daughtry)
-Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group (”Home”)
    -Best New Artist

    Jennifer Hudson
-Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance (”Love You I Do”)

And Elliot has an outside chance for pop male vocal.

  28. 28 Kirsten Oct 29th, 2007 at 5:09 pm

I saw this list on another site

That’s a nicely formatted version of the information. Thanks for bringing that over.

-Song of the Year (”It’s Not Over”)

This song should also be included under “Ace Young” since he is one of the listed authors of that song.

Technically, these are Grammy ENTRIES, not nominations.

Ooops! Yes, that is much less confusing.

Any thoughts on why Kellie managed to get so many nominations but not for BNA? Was somebody asleep at the wheel?

In the meantime, Ken Barnes got to listen to a preview of the first single which is called, “Break Anotha.”

Okay, I suck at grammar/spelling, but even I am starting weep for the future generations. What’s wrong with “Break Another”? In other news…chanting? I’m envisioning Gregorian Chants…LOL…I’m sure they mean something else.

Thanks for all the warm welcome backs (on this thread and the other thread)!

Oh, and thanks for the list, Kirsten.

Aside from Daughtry, I could see nominations for Before He Cheats, Fantasia and Elliott (keeping fingers crossed here.) Maybe Pickler and that’s about it. Best new artist for both Daughtry and Elliott would be a dream come true for me but not really possible in a year with many stong new female artists.

intresting that Jordin’s video is nominated when it has yet to be released . hopefully she can get nominated for Pop female . not sure why she is not listed for new artist which might come next year even though she had a single out this year before the deadline .

    BREAKING NEWS

Never one to let a little cribbing of artistic ideas slow him down, upon hearing the leaked lyrics to Bucky and Elliott’s soon to be hit, Honky Tonk Chanukah, little d™ has leaked the lyrics from his own Christmas song. Inspired by his recent trip to Australia, here is the single, My Own Kangaroo, from little d™ ’s upcoming holiday album…. “A Very Aussie Christmas.”

**strangely, it sounds much like “On Top of Old Smokey,” if you ask me**

    My Own Kangaroo

    Those Aussies are cool, mate
    And they like me, too
    But Santa please give me
    My own kangaroo

    Koala bears are cool
    But I’m a real tool
Because all that I want mate
    Is my own kangaroo

    Steve Irwin’s their hero
    His death was real whack
But I don’t want no khakis
Off the poor dead man’s back

Though I come home with undies
    Of crazy ass chicks
    I don’t want a leather hat
    The likes of Dundee’s

If you grant me my wish, mate
    I’ll even buy
    CDs of the real losers
    Who beat me season five

You can blow off my wife, please
    Forget my tykes, too
    So, Santa please give me
    My own kangaroo

    So, Santa please give me
    My own kangaroo
    My own kangaroo
    My own kangaroo

    *****
    Those Aussies are cool, mate
    And know I’m a tool
    So, Santa please give me
    My own kangaroo

    Even though me minions
    Did Operation Roo
    They still did not deliver
    My own kangaroo

    Aboringines are fierce, mate
    My minions are, too
    So you’d better deliver
    My own kangaroo

    Mate, if you ignore this
    Simple request
    Little Donner will turn up
    As a Christmas vest

Santa, if I don’t get me
    My own kangaroo
    Rudolph is dead meat
    By didgeridoo

    Gidday, my ol’ mate Santa
    You’re a real good Bloke
I know that you’ll give me
    My own kangaroo

    Those Aussies are cool, mate
    And know I’m a tool
    So, Santa please give me
    My own kangaroo

    So, Santa please give me
    My own kangaroo
    My own kangaroo
    My own kangaroo

    ETA:
    Welcome back Kirsten, eh. :)

A myspace update bulletin from Katharine McPhee thanks her fans for their support and says: “This next year is going to be amazing musically and I look forward to sharing with you all very soon.”

    I’m excited!

I guess that means Kat’s “movie career” hit a wall. I thought she was filming a few movies this year. .

Wonder if it has to do w/ her working w/ David Foster (according to posters)

She has finished the first movie jp and I believe she is filming another movie but I don’t really know when. I haven’t followed her movie career much as I am more interested in her music.

I’m excited to hear what projects she will be working on. I look forward to new Katharine music and I’m also looking really forward to the Elliott/Kat duet- should be good!
