<blockquote>That being said, the holiday concert with Chekezie and friends actually sounds like one of the best groups theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve put together for the Idol Stars touring. Might actually consider that one.</blockquote>

I was thinking the same thing. David Hernandez (Season 7) will be featured in the tour. Good for him! I hope he does a terrific job!

<em>Chris Daughtry will join Alicia Keys next week in New York City for her annual benefit, The Black Ball, which raises money for her charity Keep A Child Alive which works to help African children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. American Idol creator Simon Fuller is being honored at this year's event because of all the money that Idol Gives Back raised for that particular cause. Also on the bill: Justin Timberlake and hot new British STAR Artist Adele.</em>

I say TMH is a good next single. I think that this cd is full of solid choices, so I think that this isn't a bad choice. Not my favorite, but that's okay. I am gonna have the entire cd in my hand in just a few days. Play it when I want......

That was a cute USA Today article. His playlist had some interesting stuff on it, and he definitely gave plenty of love to former Idol contestants. Being a fan of the Cookuleta hijinks, I did love this quote:

<blockquote>Archuleta's more ardent fans recognize his youth, but in a more "respectful" way. When he performed on the Idols Live tour, "there wasn't any underwear thrown on the stage, though that happened to some of the other kids." At least not until the final show, when his former rival and buddy Cook lobbed panties at him, Archuleta says, giggling.
</blockquote>

So it looks like TMH is the next single? I actually had it in my top tier of songs on his CD. (*patting myself on my back*)

I didn't think this "old" gal new anything about pop music. Just watch, now that I praised myself it will be a different song and I'll look stupid. :tongue_rolleye_ee:

<blockquote>According to Pulse, Touch My Hand will be Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s second single and theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going for adds on 12/9. </blockquote>

All Access confirms that it is going for adds on Pop on 12/9 (and I see Melinda is listed under Jan 20th. Go Mindy Doo!). Neither are listed on AC/HAC yet though. LOL. They have no songs adding at all in that format. Clear the decks for Christmas?

If Jive is smart, they'll have Archie singing Touch My Hand as at least his second song on that promo tour of his. I guess that starts tonight? That song was kind of meh for me. I like the one about the eyes. Who knew? I've always associated whistling in songs to my Mom's old Roger Whitacker tapes, but this thing just kind of works. I like the bounce to that song. But, I can see how that wouldn't be a good winter song. I think I need to cut down in the caffiene though. That lady suddenly appearing to say "Music on Demand" nearly made me jump out of my chair. When is Cookie streaming? I only like listening to the entire songs (after Archie, Pink's album started streaming and I really liked one of her ballads on there. I would like a version without the "Music on Demand" chick though). Um...so new single. What say the Archies?

Even that guy in the Salt Lake Tribune likes Touch My Hands. I think Jive has been putting out feelers for a while since they released that song and have probably been watching since the album songs were released, so I am sure they have a good idea of what they are doing. They have done well for David and many other artists they handle so far, so I am going to trust them.

Nice interview with Archie, dunno if it's totally new but the article's dated today:

<a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN0331287920081106" rel="nofollow">David Archuleta set to move beyond "American Idol"</a>

It says he actually cowrote 5 of the songs on his album!

I like "Touch My Hands" and could see teens and young adults really liking it. I thought ALTNOY or Desperate would make a good next single, but mabye they are going to put out multiple singles. Do they normally put out several to see what sticks?

When I first heard that song, I could imagine teens and young adults, since I have recently been to some dances with them, reaching out their hands and then jumping up and down once the band part comes in. That is what they did to several songs at a recent dance. This is when they need a light thing like Cooks thing for the second verse. I guess they could use their cell phones. I think they will love it.

Cheese, I guess I would hope the hometown guy might know more and have interest enough to get the facts right and to not give the AI stereotypes of David. I am just disappointed. Maybe that is too much to ask.

<blockquote>Cheese, when I refered to the reviewer having no à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“interestà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in David, it was because it is his hometown area. You would think they could come up with someone who knew something or cared about David from his hometown.</blockquote>

Ah, got it. Still, the paper probably has a limited number of people who do album reviews and even in his hometown, not everyone is going to care or be a big fan. I got the impression that the guy did watch Archie on Idol and knew something about him.

I don't think the stuff he mentioned are necessarily AI stereotypes. Archie does giggle a lot, and his stage presence on AI was a little lacking for some viewers (the closed eyes and outstretched hand). I think David has grown tremendously as a performer since the show ended, but the reviewer probably skipped the pop tart tour. He gave major props to Archie's voice.

I don’t think the stuff he mentioned are necessarily AI stereotypes. Archie does giggle a lot, and his stage presence on AI was a little lacking for some viewers (the closed eyes and outstretched hand). I think David has grown tremendously as a performer since the show ended, but the reviewer probably skipped the pop tart tour. He gave major props to Archie’s voice.

I love New York Magazine for its great political and city stuff, and am a loyal subscriber, but I definitely recognize that the online Vulture blog, which definitely gets more hits and comments when Cook/Archuleta are mentioned, is a totally different animal from the magazine that spawned it. Most Vulture posts yield a handful of comments -- unless Cook/Archuleta are the subject. Then the floodgates open, and NYMag can show its online advertisers how many eyeballs looked at the site. I have to admit that the Cook hate makes me boil, but I've learned to let it go. I didn't even post a comment to this current Vulture review to point out that they placed DC's hometown in Mississippi!
I was truly surprised that Vulture didn't do a post-SNL/Cook post. Maybe that's because Vulture would have looked stupid and irrelevant by hating on what were pretty good performances??

According to Pulse, Touch My Hand will be Archie's second single and they're going for adds on 12/9. Crush has probably peaked on the Top 40 chart so it's time for single #2.

Cheese, when I refered to the reviewer having no "interest" in David, it was because it is his hometown area. You would think they could come up with someone who knew something or cared about David from his hometown.

BTW, I like snarky archies. They have level heads on their shoulders and seem to be genuinely looking out for David's interests.

Slezak redeemed himself in one of the best David Archuleta interviews to date. It was 3 parts. Two of my favorite parts were the look of shock and awe on Slezaks face as he met David and was really impressed with him; and David's reference to how a rainbow would probably have appeared over his head if he had sung TOML. Funny.

<blockquote>He would bring up stuff about Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s dad, or he would make some sarcastic remark about how Archie managed shockingly to pick a good song this weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬'yet never commented on the actual performance. He barely ever commented on the actual performance. It would always be something sarcastic about Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clothes, or his father, or how he licks his lips.</blockquote>

Hmm, point taken. I guess I never noticed that because I was pretty much all about Cook, Brooke, and Jason during the season, and I focused on what was said of my favorites :). I honestly didn't pay Archie much attention during the season because his song choices weren't to my taste--until he won me over on the 2 finale nights and in the aftermath of my Cook-fever, haha, wherein I started catching up on all the BTS clips from AI.com, interviews, tour stories, etc. I do recall that Slezak was all kinds of indignant about producer manipulation this past season, and I'd guess that he (unfairly) loaded that frustration on Archie, because he was the early frontrunner. In hindsight, I do feel that Archies had it tough this season, and even DC's said as much in interviews where he gave Archie props for shouldering the frontrunner burden with grace, while he had an easier time at first because he could get take his time and get his footing as long as he wasn't last each week, etc. (paraphrasing horribly).

<blockquote>I never put stock in music reviews, though. Actually, I never really read them.</blockquote>

I really enjoy reading music reviews. I'm not looking to be told what to like, I just find reading other points of view interesting, and a good reviewer can be enlightening, even if I disagree with them. Reviewers often pick things out that I miss, and I can come away from a review ready to listen to a piece of music in a different way. Not that a review will change my mind about what I like, it just enhances the experience a bit. YMMV of course.

ETA: I still think freaking out and trashing a critic just because he dislikes or snarks on your favorite Idol is OTT. Also, I would also hope that those fans who were so indignant over Slezak's posts would find the Vulture posts offensive as well. And vice versa, of course.

Archie fans came to dislike Slezak not because of the Idolotry videos, but because the only time he ever said a positive word about anything Archie ever did on Idol was when he sort of praised "Imagine." And that's it. He would bring up stuff about Archie's dad, or he would make some sarcastic remark about how Archie managed shockingly to pick a good song this week--yet never commented on the actual performance. He barely ever commented on the actual performance. It would always be something sarcastic about Archie's clothes, or his father, or how he licks his lips. Other contestants... actually most all of the contestants... got better treatment than that. In his Idol reviews he wasn't trying to be funny, he was actually reviewing the show. That would annoy fans of Archie just as much as Vulture annoys fans of Cook.

BTW, while I think Vulture is being snarky, they actually have written articles solely about Archie that weren't over the top. They even made a montage youtube video after the finale about Archie that wasn't snarky at all--it was well-put together and sentimental. Do they want the hits? Yeah. Are they playing Archie's and Cook's fans for all their worth? Of course. Do they actually like Archie's album? I think so. They go on to list some of their favorite songs. They would simply make broad platitudes if the entire point of the post was to diss Cook.

I never put stock in music reviews, though. Actually, I never really read them.

<blockquote>Some of the trashing Slezak received from Archie fans was a little unfair, and OTT, imo. EW isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t 100% anti-archie. I thought the article Shirley Halperin wrote about Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s liner notes was cute, not negative. And when she caught up with him later, I thought the report she wrote was fine. And Slezak wrote a very nice review of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Crushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .</blockquote>

I'm a total Slezak fangirl from his TV Watches and Idolatry videos, so I totally agree. He and his crew poke fun, but it's never mean-spirited, IMO. The Brooke as Bambi, Syesha Wonderwoman, and KLC as Godzilla or whatever was hilarious, and I *love* Brooke. I was a fan of EW's TV Watches back when I was a very casual viewer of AI, and Slezak and his crew always have their favorites, but that's their job.

I honestly don't agree with Slezak often (his music tastes in particular, except for his eventual support of DC this season), but I always enjoyed his coverage, clips, and writing because they were smart, interesting and well-done. I'm a fan of NYMag, and snark in general, but I've never been into the Vulture because they're just not that funny. (A much smarter version of that NY snark can be found on Gawker.) I wasn't even aware of the Vulture's Cook hate until after Idol when I lost my mind and started reading all DC news and coverage, haha.

Anyways, I guess I say all this to get myself to the point where I will be able let the negative coverage/reviews on either David slide off and not get worked up ;).
