Idol Headlines for 11/07/08
Clear Channel Radio Embraces American Idol Alumni with Sneak Peek Program
The two finalists of American Idol’s seventh season, David Cook and David Archuleta, are giving fans the first opportunity to listen to their complete debut albums on Clear Channel Radio’s Sneak Peek program.
American Idol’s seventh season winner, David Cook, lets audiences get the first taste of his 12-track debut self-titled album, which features his top twenty single, “Light On,” and possible next single, “Declaration.” His Sneak Peek is being offered on-demand on over 190 Clear Channel Radio web sites before its November 18th release date.
David Archuleta’s Sneak Peek is available now, with David Cook’s going live on November 13th.
Miley Cyrus, David Archuleta To Perform In Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Miley Cyrus and David Archuleta will dodge giant balloons together when the teen stars perform in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Other performers set for the annual Turkey Day festivity include Trace Adkins, the Cheetah Girls, James Taylor and Darius Rucker, according to a press release.
The New York City parade will take place November 27 and will be hosted by “Today” hosts Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira and Al Roker. As is tradition, the casts from several Broadway shows will also be on hand for the big event. This year’s lineup includes “In the Heights,” “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” and “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas,” as well as an annual appearance from the Radio City Rockettes.
David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell: Lunch Date
Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been an item ever since he asked her out on live TV, and yesterday David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell were spotted having a romantic lunch date in Santa Monica.
The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ alums held hands and looked very lovey-dovey, with Cook sporting a black t-shirt with a vest, charcoal wash jeans, and Converse All-Stars while Kim sported a red scoopneck shirt, cropped vest, black stretch pants, and knee-high boots.
The Five Best Tracks on David Archuleta’s (possibly fake) iPod
In the portable-media player era, one of the common gambits for “getting to know” an artist is the celebrity playlist, in which famous people purport to reveal to the world the contents of their digital-music library. Whether these lists of tracks are real or fake or just highly massaged is frequently up for debate, given the sheer number of public-relations types in desperate need of something to do who are still employed by the music industry. But I kind of want to believe in the latest one of these to cross my transom because it comes to us courtesy of American Idol runner-up David Archuleta, who showed the contents of “his iPod” to USA Today as part of the runup to his album’s release next week. If it’s real, it shows just how much the kid has grown since he was annoying the crap out of me every Tuesday night last winter. Sure, some of the songs listed are the sorta-treacly material that made him so annoying during Idol’s seventh season (hello, Wilson Phillips!), but other tracks are really good! I swear! Five examples of this after the jump.
David Cook: the grungiest Idol
Need more proof of rockà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s return? Listen to David Cook.
Yes, that David Cook. The season 7 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ champ may not have Chris Cornellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pedigree, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing his best to sound like a Seattle native.
For Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s debut, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“David Cook,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ out Nov. 18, he enlisted a rock all-star team. The album was helmed by Rob Cavallo, the producer behind Kid Rockà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rock N Roll Jesus,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ My Chemical Romanceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Black Paradeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and the last five Green Day discs. Although Cook co-wrote most of the record, Daughtry and Hinder hit scribe Brian Howes and Cornell himself pitched in – the single à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Light Onà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was penned by the modern-rock trifecta.
Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood is reaching something entirely different than her route to fame in 2005 as an “American Idol”-winning country girl. Her concert at the Nokia Theater wasn’t always successful, but one has to admire the attempt.
The muddled 90-minute show feels like three performers shoehorned into one — the down-home singer who still remembers when her hometown of Checotah, Okla., had only one stop light; the uplifting, big voiced country balladeer; and the sassy gal who just wants to rock.
Chick power heads Inland: Carrie Underwood grabs attention from ‘Idol’ fans, country enthusiasts
Carrie Underwood has seen more than a million faces this year, and she can add about 11,000 more with her show Sunday at the new Citizens Business Bank Arena.
“She is a fantastic singer and people love to hear her,” said Jimi Westbrook of opening act Little Big Town. “And they’re coming out to the shows.”
Country-rock tour, starring Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson, rolls into Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS — Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson are separated by 27 years and one big chasm between their respective genres: country and pop-rock.
Yet here they are, sharing one band, one stage and more than two dozen hit songs in the 2 Worlds 2 Voices tour stopping Saturday in Grand Rapids.
USA Today called their friendship and professional collaboration “one of pop music’s most curious couplings.” The two are cross-genre and cross-generational, but they have traversed their differences to become peas in a pod. And they each have a history of hits.
Two worlds, two voices
Kelly bounced across the sage in bare feet throughout the evening while Reba did her fair share of country music swing and line dance stepping. They honestly looked as though they were having a blast on stage which in turn made it fun for the audience.
At one point Kelly gave a rather lengthy introduction to a song then just as they got ready to sing she realized the intro was meant for a different song. She became flustered, looked at Reba and said, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Why didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t you stop me?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to which Reba nonchalantly replied, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Aww, I figured youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d get there eventuallyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
McEntire, Clarkson merge two worlds into one great show
ALBANY à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarksonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s duo tour, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“2 Worlds, 2 Voices,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ which captivated a full house at the Times Union Center Thursday night, was perhaps misnamed.
True, the two do come from different worlds. McEntire has been one of the biggest female country stars for roughly three decades now, while Clarkson has risen from the winner of the first à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to a bonafide superstar in her own right, based on the strength of bubblegum/hard rock hybrid hits. Musically, at least described on paper, the two couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be more different.
Bucky Covington Learns the Ropes
It was just two years ago that Bucky Covington established himself on “American Idol” and found his way to a country recording contract.
This new into the business, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s wisely taking it slow in building his career, still establishing a fan base and learning how to work a crowd. He says heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s taking it from the ground up as he aims for a place among countryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s biggest stars.
Concert to recall a day of courage
On Saturday, Harris will mark the 43rd anniversary of the ambush by appearing at Koka Booth Amphitheatre as part of the 8th of November Concert Celebration. The event will feature live performances by country artists Billy Ray Cyrus, Josh Gracin, Rockie Lynne and Bo Bice, along with the 82nd Airborne’s All-American Chorus.
Before they became stars, Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich were performing at the Buffalo Saloon in Deadwood, S.D. Harris, who had retired as a master sergeant after 25 years, was bartending. The three became friends, and Harris shared his memories of that violent day. He also gave Big Kenny the top hat he wears on stage and in videos.
Paula Abdul Gets Emotional About Jennifer Hudson
Paula Abdul speaks out about the day she found out about the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew.
“I was devastated,” Paula tells ET about finding out the news. “I was immediately on the computer saying, ‘what’s going on here? This is crazy.’”
Paula says her heart goes out to the Academy Award winning actress. “I can’t even imagine what it must feel like for her and her family and it doesn’t make any sense. It’s awful, it’s horrific, it’s unfathomable.”
Paula Abdul: Obama Victory Triggers Tears and Texting
With the election of Barack Obama, Paula Idol of American Idol will stay just that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ an American.
“I was crying!” she tells PEOPLE. “You feel such a sense of pride that you can’t even articulate how good you feel. It’s unbelievable! I have chills. I was just so excited. I was texting everyone: ‘Peace has begun.’ And then I was texting everyone, ‘I don’t have to move to Vancouver now!’”
Abdul, 46, is in New York City hosting Paula Abdul’s RAH Cheerleading Bowl, a high-energy cheerleading squad competition that will air New Year’s Day on MTV.
No Christmas Bonus For Simon Cowell
It could be a bonus-free Christmas for reality show Scrooge, Simon Cowell, according to reports out of the UK.
ITV, the network which airs Cowellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“X-Factor,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ -like reality competition that spawned the likes of Leona Lewis, is cutting back due to tough financial times.
The network said it à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t afford to overpayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ for its talent roster, after predicting a 9 percent drop in advertising in the run up to Christmas, according to reports out of the UK.
Backstage: Why Dancing with the Stars Made Susan Lucci Cry
Susan Lucci swears she didn’t mind flying back and forth from New York to Los Angeles every week to compete on Dancing with the Stars. It was a grueling schedule that lasted seven long weeks à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and often made her cry. “The airplanes were not the problem,” she said on Wednesday night, moments after getting her walking papers. “We could lie down on the plane and sleep.”
The real fly in the ointment, she says, was her day job. If Lucci could have changed anything about her Dancing experience, “I probably would have asked for a leave of absence from All My Children. Because I think to learn these dances in four days is challenging enough. But working on both coasts, we only had the evenings to practice. I don’t mean to whine at all à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I’m so thrilled with everything that happened à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ but to do this justice, I think you should simply focus on this, which is plenty.”
‘Dancing with the Stars’ Duo Get Real With ET!
The “Dancing with the Stars” competition is really heating up with only five couples left on the dance floor! Taking a break from their grueling rehearsal schedule, the lovable Warren Sapp and his gorgeous pro partner Kym Johnson are on the ET stage interviewing each other about everything from their dancing, to their nicknames for each other — to the first time they saw each other!
After this week’s score of 21, the couple is ready to really step up its game. Judge Len Goodman called their foxtrot “a little bit of a disappointment,” while judge Carrie Ann Inaba noticed that Warren wasn’t his usual self, and asked, “What was going on?” Warren responded that his shoes were bothering him.

^Maybe not, for all that we know, some people are already buying more than one copy, me included, I ´m buying one for myself and one for my little sister (don ´t start with me, she likes him, and she needs one to listen to when she is in the car with my mother, who also likes him)… one school could organize a “going together to buy David ´s album” so they can win, I don ´t know about US, but in here if every student in my high school buy a copy that will made 800 copies at least… and…
Beside it seems to me like they are doing a good thing… after all Archie loves UTAH…
I’m not going to start with you–lots of fans will buy several copies, that’s not a big deal, and none of my business.
I think you are missing my point. This is a contest. The school that buys the most CDs wins. This will naturally spur a bit of a buying frenzy amongst the kids who want to win that contest, and want to win it badly. It’s human nature. Kids WILL buy copies of the CD just to win the contest. The bring a can of food deal is a nice touch, but it’s still a multiple purchase buying scheme no matter how you slice it. It’s like a major pet peeve of mine, I don’t like promotions that manipulate people into buying more CDs. For the record, I also hate Bonus tracks on different versions of the CD. That’s a TOTAL racket, and I hate that as well. And don’t even get me started on the “send the troops a CD” deal many fangroups promote to boost their favorite’s numbers. Just. UGH.
LOL , MJ you could be my best friend… don ´t worrry if I found out that somebody is starting sending  ´David ´s album to Irack I will be mad too… (after all, aren ´t they all coming back now that Obama is president?… anyway)…I don ´t like the bonus track more than you, mostly because I can ´t get a copy from Walmart being in Latin America ; P, so I get your point…
But in this case the tracks are mostly the one that David wrote or co wrote, so it will give us a good idea of the kind of artist he wants to be in the future, beyond the teen post star that Jive wants right now…so IÂ ´ll be buying anyway
And some plus… just because I like MJsbigblog the most of the AI sites I visit…

Oh ok thanks trina!
I knew he had to have a picture somewhere! LOL….thanks!
Thanks for the Elle links. Those pics are hot, hot, hot!!
I hate the encouragement of bulk buying especially when it is done by the label (although, I think I already covered that all a few weeks ago). I think this one may bite them in the butt though because kids are smart enough to figure out they can return the albums. Bulk buying doesn’t count for SoundScan (after N copies, it figures it’s being manipulated and filters out that sale), but I wonder if bulk returns are still deducted from sales. This could actually reduce the numbers of legitimate sales.
I could see having a draw with one entry per customer, but this thing favours the big schools in rich districts which seems kind of unfair.
I’m okay with one version of the CD having Bonus tracks. It’s kind of a special gift to those paying attention (or a surprise treat for those who get lucky and buy it by accident). When there are 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 different bonus track versions, I get annoyed. Way to take advantage of your fans.
Let the troops pick their own CDs. And that goes double for the sick kids in hospitals. It’s all just a silly way to make people feel better about bulk buying.
Just say no to bulk buying!
Those Elle pics are nice. I like Carly’s shots best.

When I saw this DA thing at Walmart, it never even occured to me that people might buy more than one. I don’t think that was the intention. In fact, I know that it is not the label but a family friend who started this, mostly to let kids know it is coming out. I am not even sure how effective it will be since they just decided today to do it, and it is going to be very difficult to get the information out by Monday. Besides, you have to go over there at midnight on a school night. I am not sure many parents are going to go for that.
Just catching up… I highly doubt those girls were Michael John’s backup singers.
Maybe I could apply to be MJ’s backup singer when he comes over here next, next week. Haha.
You are welcome…

z100 Jingle Ball page for David
http://jingleball.z100.com/iplaylist/artist/1063668/
Thanks Cruz! I guess that means David is definitely gonna be at the New York Jingle Ball. I thought they weren’t going to officially announce the line up until the 12th.
BTW, it looks like David will not be doing the Y100 Jingle Ball in Florida on the 13th of December. I’m actually glad that he isn’t because if he had taken on that show as well, it would have meant that he’d be doing 7 shows on 7 consecutive days. He’s young. I’m sure he could have handled it. But that would have been way too grueling of a schedule.
“Crush” is No. 2 this week on the Vh1 Top 20 Countdown. Topping the list is “Better in Time” by Leona Lewis. “Single” by New Kids on the Block and Ne-Yo came in 3rd, followed by Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight,” remaining in the No. 4 spot for the 3rd week in a row.
^$%&/Leona Lewis….well I guess I should star votinmg for next week… lol next week will be the interview of Archie…
