Oh, suenigma, I am a huge Adam fan and I adore Cookie! I love his voice.

I was disappointed in the CD and only purchased three songs. I saw Cook’s show at the Nokia and saw him again at GMA and my stanning of David was rekindled.

Actually, I believe David and Adam are very similar. They both have big, beautiful voices; they are confident and have great stage presence, which comes from their musical theater background; they are charming, intelligent, articulate and witty; they both are very attractive guys.

I have high hopes for Cookie’s second record. He is so much better than his freshman debut. I also love the band. They are tight, talented musicians. Keeping my fingers crossed!

No matter what anyone says, David has sold a butt-load of records’ ¦I only hope Adam does as well.

In my heart I really believe that both of these boys will have long careers in the music biz.

Well said Mischa. I like/love a few more songs on his album than you did, but I agree that he is far better than much of the material on that first post AI effort.

Sometimes I just like to give Cookie his due too, because we Cook fans have a tendency to say, awwww, we just love him ’cause he’s such a great guy and hard worker, and downplay his obvious gifts. It’s like we are concerned that if we are not modest and humble on his behalf, he will somehow be accused of being smug and cocky again. Douche-by-proxy. LOL.

Haha, so true. Perhaps DC fans are taking after his example. DC is the one who’s been saying since May 2008 that he is far from the best singer from his season, and listing 3, 4, 5 singers at a time that he would rank above himself. It’s all subjective, really, but when you take into account things like versatility, phrasing, emotion, interpretation, musicality, I cannot understand how he can rank Syesha and Carly above himself. They have great voices, but IMO did not compare in those other very important respects. Oh, and I’ll add to suenigma’s list that DC has really impressive breath control. He slides up and down, holds notes for infinity and then keeps going… it’s pretty cool to watch actually. And his ability to vary his tone so widely. He’s like a vocal chameleon sometimes. I’ll never claim that DC’s the best singer EVAH cuz he isn’t, but he’s pretty darn great at what he does.

Ha, the dreaded “smug”! I love the voice and think he’s immensely talented. All the other stuff (the pretty! the charm!) is just a big, big bonus. It’s the *voice* that got me in the first place. And man, I still love that voice

Clearly you prefer Adam’s, which I agree is very nice, but for me, David Cook simply has a more beautiful and pleasing voice. It is even more remarkable when one considers that he sings in a genre of music that doesn’t really highlight the beauty of his voice. However the key word is subjective. This is a fun blog for news & discussion about a show and people I got interested in because of David Cook. I think after the competition is over comparisons are really pointless, and almost dangerous. As many have said, I hope all the “Idols” do well. (well, there’s a couple I really don’t care for. but nevermind.)

I’d never really try to change anyone to my point of view. I like to put my feelings out there, see the response, like everyone else. I watch vids of other singers that people post here, hope others do too. I appreciate this forum. Now I’m rambling – good night.

I happen to think that David Cook has an incredible voice, one of the best I’ve ever heard. Adam also has a very good voice, but I don’t think he has a better voice than David Cook. ymmv.

Mary 102: Oh, dear ‘“ not opening this can of worms again’ ¦ lol ‘“ too late. I will say both are great singers ‘“ Adam is better from a technical standpoint (control, range, timbre, versatility). But that doesn’t necessarily mean he is for everyone. Different strokes an’ all.

David Cook always really really impressed me with his singing ability on AI, though. He knew exactly how to use his voice, and imo had excellent pitch and projection, especially.

Me: (LOL can’t get the freaking quotes to work right) Oh dear, this IS a can of worms Mary102. I agree with some of your assertions but not others. We agree that they are both very good singers though. Here is how I would break it down technically:

-They both have excellent ranges – Adam definitely has a wider range.

-They both have an amazing ability to emote and connect with the audience – telling a story with their songs. I would call this a draw.

-David has superior phrasing and rythym. Second only to Melinda and Kelly, IMO, and perhaps Elliot.

-Adam does have superior vocal control and refinement, especially in the lower ranges. Clearly he has had a great deal of top-notch vocal training to hone his gift. David appears to be mainly self taught.

-David has superior power and projection, although Adam is no slouch in this department.

-David has been accused of sometimes screaming when he is belting in his upper range and Adam has been accused of shrieking/being shrill in his upper range.

- Versatility? Both are amazing and we have only seen a fraction of what they can do, so I’m going to call this a draw. Although I think that if you factor in the Season 7 Group performances Cookie comes out ahead by a fraction (R&B, Country, Gospel, Crooning, etc.)

But I think I’m gonna wait a day to preorder the iTunes version like I planned just to make sure that Apple has ironed out their kinks before contributing my one little buy to the total. They’ve been so flaky lately, and since I can’t afford multiple buys this is my only chance to help Adam’s numbers in a teeny tiny miniscule way.

I think you can cancel your pre-order stuff before it’s delivered.

Yes you can. When you go into your itunes account there is an area that says manage pre orders. There you can cancel them.

I just tried to pre-order the album and it keeps saying I’ve already ordered it because no matter how much I click on ‘the album’  it keeps highlighting ‘the single.’  Grrrrr! Is anyone else having this problem?
I’m going to go to bed and try again tomorrow!

I did have the same problem. I think they don’t have their kinks ironed out yet. When you go through the whole process you get the pre order but also get charged .99 cents for the single FYE. So I have it twice. All for a good cause. Is it really that difficult to have a single and an Album with the same name and have two separate links to purchase them without all this hassle. Come on Itunes it is not like this is the first time in history an Album and a single have the same name. Jeez……Anyway….I have the deluxe Itunes version. YEAH!!! Anybody hear anything about the 2nd bonus track Master Plan… Love the title of the song.

I had the same problem, but I decided to keep going with it to see what would happen. I did get a screen that told me I can manage my pre-orders, so I think I pre-ordered the album. When I went to my play list, I now have two copies of FYE the single, but perhaps I will get credit once I get the album? If not, I’m stuck with two copies of the single. Not a big deal, but not what I was planning on doing. As long as I have the album, that’s all that matters.

I want Sleepwalker the most, too, followed by Broken Open and Soaked. SO EXCITED!!!
