Answer: Gene Simmons spouted something, that he thought I’d ruined my career by coming out. He’s obnoxious, and what a hypocrite ‘“ all he talks about is his sex life. He was being a dick ‘“ and he’s not the greatest singer. I guess he’s a good businessman. I’ll give him that.

It’s one thing to call Gene a dick, but to put down the singing of fellow artists? Particularly those who have been in the industry for so long and are no longer in their prime? Not classy. It comes off as particularly arrogant in Adam’s case because he probably is aware that a lot of people think he is a very gifted singer. I generally don’t have a problem with a lot of things Adam says. He can use the word “twat”, talk about his drug history and say that some of his fans are smelly for all I care. However, insulting those who are obviously not as good singers as you are is not cool. I’ve also seen enough interviews to know that Adam knows how to be diplomatic when it matters to him. It’s not like he doesn’t have a filter.

Well hell. But I’ve read she’s going to start doing a radio tour starting Nov. 16th and she got like 5 adds yesterday from Top 40 stations, IIRC, so hopefully this will help. That lack of support thus for Allison has not been happy making, but seems like there will some stuff in the works for her.

I think it will be really cool if it’s true. Monte and Adam go way back and it will be nice for him to have someone playing with him who has such a close relationship, not to mention he’s a kickass guitarist.

That’s not the point. It’s kind of like saying that you can’t get into the Dalai Lama because he has lousy fashion sense. And I’m not saying everybody has to listen to Dylan or have a picture of the Dalai Lama on their wall (or follow his sartorial stylings)

But it is the point when the question specifically is about music and why musically you don’t get into it. For your Dalai Lama analogy to be similiar, it really would be asking if you liked his fashion sense and you going, ‘I really respect the whole dressing according to being a leader of a religion, but I really don’t like yellows, they make me look sallow.’ The actual question put to Adam was about music, so Adam answered with music he didn’t like, and based solely on the basis of music.

So Dylan’s being other things, are really irrelevant to Adam’s answer about why he couldn’t get into Dylan’s vocals, and thus his music. Adam dealt with all of Dylan’s stuff with words of respect, and kept his answer solely to the focus of the question, what music and why.

Oh and yellow really does make me look sallow, yet another reason I would not make a good Buddhist monk.

never read that Kris likes Dylan. do you remember where you saw this?

I’ve seen it in a few places. I’m pretty sure that it’s in the EW interview he did with Slezak.

He’d been hoping to sing Dylan on the show and was thrilled when he could get a Dylan song in through the back door (during Country week, he was able to sing Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love” because it had been covered by Garth Brooks).

Adam’s comment was mild, but still, for a newcomer who has not accomplished anything like what Dylan has, to even criticize him at all just struck me as presumptuous.

Why does not liking voice make someone presumptuous? Dylan’s voice is definitely an acquired taste when it was good, and not it’s shot. Not like Adam wasn’t saying that Dylan didn’t deserve respect for who he is, he starts out saying he really respects him. So yeah, respecting the contribution of the guy, just not digging the vocals. And really c’mon, who is going to say Dylan has great vocals? Or even if he did, it’s fine just not to find it one’s cuppa. And again, not like he didn’t realize the man was worthy of respect, because that’s what he gave him.

People can go, ‘I really respect Maria Callas, but I just can’t get into her voice.’ Which is fine. Opera isn’t for everyone, but respect for a major opera diva.

I would get the diss aspect if Adam hasn’t started out giving Dylan huge props, and keeping why he personally couldn’t get into someone worthy of respect, based (for him), strictly on the vocals.

Adam’s being a newbie has nothing to do with it, imho. Dylan isn’t @god, he isn’t untouchable. Everything he doesn’t have to be liked by everyone. What Adam voiced is valid for everyone, we all have different musical tastes and can express those personal tastes, and we don’t have to be “expert,” enough or whatever, to express those personal tastes.

Kind of funny that two artists that Kris likes (Dylan/Kanye) got special mention for music Adam doesn’t like. There must have been some interesting musical discussions in that room.

LOL, yep, Adam with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry love on one side of the room and Kris with Dylan and Kanye on the other. But at least they have Paul McCartney in common!
