Today’s Idol headlines after the jump…

The Many Talents of Camille Mana

….
MediaBlvd> Can you tell us about College, the movie you just finished up?

Camille>Yeah, it’s a teen comedy coming out January 4th from Lions Gate. And it’s kind of in the vein of Superbad and American Pie. And I’d say it’s just as good as both of those, not your run of the mill teen comedy show. It’s starring Drake Bell and Haley Bennet from Music and Lyrics. Kevin Covais from American Idol, and Ryan Pinkston from Punk’d, and myself, and some other fun young people who are up and coming. I’m so excited. We did it in the Spring in New Orleans and it was kind of an interesting thing being on scene in New Orleans, because it’s definitely in a transitional space, which was kind of a bummer. But it’s really good that a lot of films are going into production there. It’s good for the city to have money coming in and stuff. But it was definitely an interesting experience. We were on location for a couple of months, so it was definitely a good Spring time experience. ……

Concert review: Versatile Kelly Clarkson powers through show

The men in suits don’t know, but the little girls understand.

Kelly Clarkson’s latest CD - the rocking, darkly confessional “My December” - was greeted with disdain from her label bosses and indifference from the same radio programmers who embraced her “Breakaway” album a couple of years ago. A summer tour slated to hit the HP Pavilion was scrapped, and the 2002 “American Idol” winner split with her manager.

But Clarkson clearly still has a loyal - and very shrill - following. When the 25-year-old Texan finally hit San Jose on Saturday for a sold-out show at the San Jose State University Event Center, young women (and a few enthusiastic guys) were screaming along to every angst-filled word Clarkson wrote for her latest disc - as well as jumping up and down to “Since U Been Gone.”……

Glenn Gamboa | DROPS

…SONG(S) OF THE WEEK. The “American Idol” rematch between Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis is heating up, as both their new singles hit radio to promote their upcoming debuts. Sparks’ “Tattoo” (Jive) is simple and sweet, letting her vocals carry the song, which sounds like a poppier version of Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” Lewis’ “Break Anotha” (Arista) is more complex, with a clutter of rhythms and dance sounds spicing up a bit of Robin Thicke-styled R&B. Both will appeal to their fans, but Sparks’ offering could break through to a wider audience.

Google turns to X Factor’s Fuller for push into TV

Internet giant Google is in secret talks with Simon Fuller, the British entrepreneur behind the Spice Girls, about a joint venture that could change the way TV is watched over the internet.

News of the collaboration will prompt speculation that Google’s plans for the TV market include generating original content and competing with major broadcasters.

Executives from the £229bn internet giant have been in discussions with Fuller, who invented Pop Idol, the world’s most successful TV franchise, for about a year. Although details of the deal are a closely guarded secret, sources close to Fuller say it could revolutionise the way entertainment and music are distributed.

‘It’s a big idea on a global scale,’ he said. ‘It will change television in much the way iTunes changed the way music is disseminated.’ …………

Can American Idol Change the World?

I’ve never been much of an American Idol fan. I’ve always thought of it as just another dumb reality show — and besides, something about Ryan Seacrest and that golden boy, bleached-white smile look of his creeps me out. Point being, I’ve never watched a full episode since it first aired five years ago. How then, did I get addicted to a very similar show on Arab television? Back at home in New York City, my dad called me over to show me a program he had recorded; I guessed that it was probably an interview with a politician. Instead, it turned out to be the first episode of a new show called Star Academy on the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation………

Simon Cowell appears on an episode of Family Guy

Simon Cowell enjoyed another one of his legendary American Idol rants - on an episode of Family Guy.

The British judge, along with Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, watched popular character Stuey audition for the hit talent show.

After the boy had finished a hilarious version of Debbie Gibson’s ‘Lost in your Eyes’, Cowell let rip with his criticisms……

Ruben Studdard and Robin Givens on stage

Keri Hilson:Heat Seeker

…AllHipHop.com Alternatives: Where are you right now? What are you working on?

Keri Hilson: I am in Atlanta at the moment, working on a Pantene commercial and [working with] Blake Lewis [of American Idol]. And of course wrapping up my album in the nooks and crannies of time I steal in the midst of writing for other artists.
………
AHHA: Now I know that Polow Da Don kind of put you on…

Keri Hilson: Actually, I was alright writing. I had a couple of placements as a writer. I had worked with Usher, Ciara, Ruben [Studdard] and lots of other artists before even meeting Polow. So I was an established artist; however, not much was moving on the artist end. I wasn’t really pursuing it though. I was kind of complacent. I just knew that the artist thing would fall into my lap. And it’s true – shortly after I met Polow, things started moving because of him, definitely. He introduced me to Timbaland who, little did I know, was looking for a female R&B artist like myself. So Polow made the deal happen and lots of other things.

Have those final tour numbers come in yet? Or was it THAT bad?

  3. 3 t2 Nov 12th, 2007 at 7:34 am

Good morning LisaB. That Simon Cowell interview really makes me want to buy a “Jag-u-eh”. Heh.

  4. 4 jpfan Nov 12th, 2007 at 8:40 am

Keri Hilson is working with Blake. Is she doing a duet on his album? Not quite sure about that. Jordin is working with Chris Brown. They really want these albums to have Top 40 appeal.

Just a follow up. Elliott didn’t get booed at the Celtics game. Here’s the clip and while you hear a few boos at the beginning at the end they were cheering.

I guess Jordin and Blake are passing on the obligatory NAs. Isn’t analyzing NAs to predict future Idol success an idol tradition?

I expect the numbers from the last leg of the tour to be better than the first. They ended in the Northeast where the numbers are always better.

Keri Hilson is a songwriter too…she has some songs on Britney Spears new album (which I really like *ducks flying objects*) so maybe she and Blake are just writing for something together. It’s kind of late in the game for Blake to just now be recording a duet with her for his album.

  7. 7 jpfan Nov 12th, 2007 at 9:50 am

I thought Blake was writing most of the songs for his album? He’s getting some high powered co-writers right now.

  8. 8 pj Nov 12th, 2007 at 9:57 am

Blake’s album has already shipped to the manufacturer, so maybe this is a future collaboration?

jpfan, he’s working with Ryan Tedder, Josh Hoge, Steph Jones, Chris Rich and others. It’ll be interesting to see the liner notes when the album comes out.

That user has some vids up from Blake’s appearance in Dallas over the weekend. The sound isn’t very good (too much bass) but if you’re curious you can get a little preview of Blake’s new songs. I’m loving “Here’s My Hello.”

  10. 10 jpfan Nov 12th, 2007 at 10:33 am

Thanks for the Blake Videos. His band looks very tight and professional. Kind of hard to judge the music but a couple of the tracks are good. I personally wouldn’t go to a concert of this type of music but it’s good in its genre. My crystal ball is too cloudy to make any Jordin/Blake predictions. It’ll be interesting to see how they do.

  11. 11 xoxoyc Nov 12th, 2007 at 10:36 am

That Keith Urban/Carrie Underwood tour ought to do huge numbers. I’m kind of surprised that they aren’t going to Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana or Michigan though- country acts do really well in those states.

  12. 12 ealbino Nov 12th, 2007 at 10:44 am

If you all find out before me when these tickets go on sale please post..I definitely want to see Carrie singing those Carnival ride songs!

  13. 13 Trina Nov 12th, 2007 at 10:46 am

I’ll probably end up buying both Jordin and Blake’s CD’s, but just based on the little I’ve heard of the two I think Blake’s will be far better and more interesting. The sound is distorted on those videos but the beats are very catchy. Heres my Hello sounds like a hit to me. Is that the one he did with Chris R?

  14. 14 poporange Nov 12th, 2007 at 11:04 am

Glad to hear they did not Boo Elliott that much. Face it Elliott had a slipped up about that statement and more than half of the sports world does not care because it is not news worthy to them. The fans almost always cheer at the end of the NA at sporting events. Future american idol watch what you say about home teams and if it is about a major QB fromthe states of WI,MASS,TX or john Elway ya better duck the football are a comming your way.Biased yes I think non ai contestants have done better and want the stinking game to start.

WRITERS STRIKE—I am sure the American Idols producer will be happy because thier ratings may go up because thier going agianst reruns if it does not end. Here is list of what happens to other shows you may watch.

I love the “Silence is Golden” Intro! Thanks for the link!
    Woot Blake!

My crystal ball is too cloudy to make any Jordin/Blake predictions. It’ll be interesting to see how they do.

jpfan it will be interesting to see how they both do. Their style is so completely different from one another. The review from Detroit
    picks Blake…

My prediction: Lewis will blow Sparks out of the water, if not in first week sales then in three months’ time. Any takers

but the one from Newsday picks Jordin…

Both will appeal to their fans, but Sparks’ offering could break through to a wider audience.

I personally perfer Blake’s style, Jordin’s is too bland for my taste. Though she does have an amazing voice.

These two both could do very well.

Aa far as the Dallas video’s the sound really isn’t that great. But what you could hear did sound very catchy. Looking forward to hearing his CD.

Trina, “Whatcha Got 2 Lose” is the CRich collaboration. Not sure about “Here’s My Hello.”

  20. 20 Sarah Nov 12th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Re: Carrie - I might actually go to that concert. I like Keith Urban a lot too, so that could definitely be a good show.

Re: Blake - I just cannot wait til this album drops… those little clips (what I could discern from them - the sound was terrible) only whet my appetite for more. I really like “Here’s My Hello” too, and “What’cha Got 2 Lose” has a great hook. Also love “Gots to Get Her”, but
“Know My Name” is definitely my favorite. The Keri Hilson thing - is SHE working on an album right now? Maybe there will be a duet on her album, if so…

Re: Jordin - I’m actually starting to kind of like “Tattoo”. I hear it on the radio a lot here, and she was on the morning show of my local top 40 station last week promoting the single. Seems like she’s got a good head on her shoulders. I might actually end up getting the cd, if I like enough of the songs. Not on the 20th, though… my purchase that week will be OneRepublic, of course. ;) I’d imagine that if they follow the same “formula” that they have for the past several Idol-related releases, we should be getting an advance preview via live stream sometime this week…

  21. 21 WVIdolFan Nov 12th, 2007 at 2:04 pm

I saw Carrie sing on the morning news show. The only part I caught was Enchanted, the Disney soundtrack. I heard Carrie say on CMT that Enchanted was the hardest song to sing she had ever done. I didnt care for it but sure could see why it was so hard. She looked good on the show too.

  22. 22 star Nov 12th, 2007 at 2:20 pm

I really want to see the Carrie/Keith Urban tour too but it looks like they won’t be coming close enough to me…I’m sure they’ll be adding more dates though!

Ooh good point Sarah, maybe Blake’s recording something for Keri’s album. Sounds like she’s working on her CD!

  23. 23 xoxoyc Nov 12th, 2007 at 2:39 pm

I believe Keith is touring in Australia later this year. I really think Carrie could probably headline her own tour at this point- but she doesn’t think she’s ready so she was looking for a tour to co-headline. Should be a great show- I wish it was closer to me so I could go!

Any Garth Brooks fans- Walmart is now selling that boxed 6 CD collection for less than $10! Great deal if you like his stuff.

Taylor performed w/ members of the legendary band ‘Chicago’ last night. It was a hollywood party for Golf Digest’s Top 100 Actors golf tournament.

Go to WireImage.com and type Taylor Hicks and the pics from last night should come up.

Was not Kellie P,Daughtry and Carrie u part of season six and the contestants were just back up? ( a snark at the producers)

I know why Taylor would not but how about Elliott and Bucky thier good. Wait looked in book of Clives how to look the top 40 part and kiss someones butt..Darn

Blog above being not newsworthy meaning in a good way most sports watchers did not know about it so was not a big deal..Not like when Rosie says something.

  27. 27 Cherokee Nov 12th, 2007 at 6:06 pm

I was able to get tickets to April’s Bon Jovi / Daughtry concert in OKC (woo hoo!). I’m not a country music fan for the most part, but I do like Keith Urban and of course I love Carrie. I can’t believe the concert isn’t making a stop in Oklahoma, so if I can get tickets I’ll have to travel to Wichita. I would really love to go if I can.

For Blake fans and other interested parties.

“Break Anotha” is on iTunes. It sounds great.
