Yes, I did. He’s been hilarious all along, especially the moaning and weeping and gnashing of teeth he did when Carly got booted. I’m still kinda shocked he’s supposed to be serious.

Besides, who really follows reviews when deciding to make their music purchases anyway? Very few people, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m guessing.

I have this impression (and please correct me if I’m wrong) that pop music fans are not as likely to rely/give much stock on critic reviews when deciding to buy their music, as compared to fans of other genres. It seems that rock music enthusiasts, for example, would be wary to check out a supposedly rock record without first knowing what a legitimate critic had to say about it. (I’m basing this on the seeming hesitation of rock radio stations to play music from new artists.) This is why IMHO, I think positive critic reviews would be much more crucial for David Cook.

Re: All of the reviews…they don’t really bother me all that much. I’ve learned the key to deciphering the legitimate ones, good or bad:

1. Actual discussion of the songs’ content and artist’s musicality, in the context of the respective genre = relevant and legitimate

2. Constant dwelling on the pre-conceived notions about the artist’s personality and background that overshadows the actual subject of the review (the album itself) = transparent and irrelevant

It’s pretty easy to spot the difference. Besides, who really follows reviews when deciding to make their music purchases anyway? Very few people, I’m guessing.

The post is the cesspool of all NY tabloids, and their music critics are the lowest on the totem pole, in the pecking order in NY. Regardless of the very stupid ass mistake made by the Daily News, Jim Farber’s mostly favorable review trumps this one big time, and then there’s the NY Times too, so while maybe not critic proof, he’s got enough favorable ones to more than negate any damage the Post could do.

I know November is for the Davids but Billboard has an interview with Diane Warren and she says in the Q&A:

“I wrote this song that’s the big peace anthem …and I heard . . . that they want it to be the theme song for the whole peace movement in the Middle East. [Elliott Yamin performed the song at Liel Kolet at the Oct. 27 event.] .

What is the song?

It’s a beautiful song and it’s called “I Wish That.” [recites lyrics] … [The song will appear on Yamin’s forthcoming album.”

When MTV News spoke to “American Idol” season-seven contestant Josiah Leming last week in Los Angeles, it was clear that he wasn’t going to let any rumors of contract disputes stand in the way. Lucky for the once-homeless singer/songwriter, neither were “Idol” producers.

Two weeks ago, news broke that “Idol” producers were threatening legal action against Leming if he followed through on plans to release his debut album in January on Warner Music Group’s Reprise Records. According to The New York Post, Leming’s contract with Reprise (which he signed back in May) might be in violation of the contract all show contestants must sign that gives producer Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment exclusive rights of refusal for management and merchandising and requires contestants to record only with the show’s preferred label, Sony/BMG.

It all sounded fairly ominous, but it turns out, reports of any legal threats had been greatly exaggerated. Commenting on the Post story for the first time, a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment explained to MTV News that “Idol” contestants are generally required to sign a contract that gives Sony/BMG exclusive rights for a period of three months, but “if the contestant is in danger of losing a recording contract because of that, [19] generally will allow them out of their contract.”

In Leming’s case, his contract with 19 expired “a few months ago,” the spokesperson continued, “so we are not sure what controversy people are talking about.” And in an e-mail, the spokesperson told MTV News that “19 Entertainment wishes Josiah the best of luck on his album release.”

When MTV News caught up with Leming at Warner’s Los Angeles offices à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  before we received this clarification from 19 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  he seemed unaware of the entire incident.

“Honestly, legally, I have no real idea [about the rumored lawsuit], you know?” he said. “I had a good experience on the show, and I’m thankful that I am where I am right now, and they definitely helped push me along. … I’m thankful and I acknowledge they were a steppingstone in the process of me being where I am today.

“I wasn’t very familiar with the contract, so I’m not sure what repercussions would come of it, but like I said, the only thing that has ever been and is on my mind is the music, and moving forward on my career as an artist,” he continued. “I’m going to continue to make music, because that’s what I love to do. I did that before the show, and I’ll do it after the show.”

So now it’s all systems go for Leming’s Reprise debut, which is tentatively titled They Say. He’s currently promoting his efforts with an EP, Angels Undercover, and a video for its title track. He’s also about to launch a tour in support of the EP, before heading back to Los Angeles to put the finishing touches on his full-length.

“[They Say] basically goes out to everybody who doesn’t believe,” he laughed, “and everybody who doesn’t feel like I’m ready or prepared to go the direction I’m going, which is absolutely anybody and everybody.”

That’s ridiculous regarding Josiah Leming. Either someone on Josiah’s team pulled a fast one, or else 19 is seriously backtracking. My guess is someone on Josiah’s team, but we’ll probably never know.

It was also noted recently that early on in the season, he said that he didn’t think that a rocker could ever win AI, because rockers would consider themselves too cool to jump around the stage in glee or to cry on stage. Prescient, almost.

Why the hell didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Breathe Tonight make the twelve song cut?

That was my first reaction too. I think it would fit well instead of I Did It For You or Avalanche. Granted I haven’t listened to any of these song in full form, but those two seem to be the weakest ones and kind in the same tempo. I would rather have Breathe Tonight there.
But I guess they didn’t want to make the record harder… Cavallo has said that they had to make something for the Idol fanbase. I guess that’s what he meant.

As for the Walmart song clips, they do make me feel a bit better about the record overall. There are still too many mid-tempo and slow songs, but it may not be as imbalanced as the first set of snippets seemed to indicate. I need to hear the whole tracks, though, before I come to a final conclusion about this.
