Fans anxiously awaiting the return of American Idol can start planning their weeknights for the next few months, as Fox has announced a detailed schedule for the series. The show is set to kick off with a two-night, four-hour event on Tuesday, January 15, and Wednesday, January 16. Continue reading for all of the details on when your favorite Idol episodes will air….
America’s River goes ‘American Idol’
Annual June festival will feature country star Kellie Pickler
Dubuque’s next America’s River Festival should have a decidedly “American Idol” feel.
The city’s annual family bash at the Port of Dubuque is expected to feature country star Kellie Pickler, booked to headline Friday, June 13, of the three-day festival.
Pickler, a bubbly blonde standout on Fox television’s popular “American Idol” in 2006, has become a rising star on the country music circuit…….
Blake Lewis: I Have No Shame
Aspiring singers shouldn’t look to American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis for behavioral inspiration. He’s in the music – not the role model – business.
“I definitely don’t ever want to be considered a role model. I’m just another human being who is passionate about his music and his art. If that’s a role model for something, that’s great, but I have a foul mouth, I’m tactless and have no shame,” Lewis tells the Associated Press. “I’m definitely not your kid’s role model. Maybe for music that’s cool, one thing, but nothing else.”……
On air attack aimed at ‘American Idol’ alum Paris Bennett
Calling “American Idol” alum Paris Bennett a “dumb bitch” on the air Thursday resulted in B96’s Tone E. Fly getting verbally chewed out.
“I had a severe talking to him,” B96 GM Steve Woodbury told me Friday when asked if the radio personality known to the IRS as Anthony Distasio was disciplined. “In fact we had a meeting. We’re not going to use that kind of terminology anymore. I wouldn’t want my daughters called that. I’m really upset about that. First of all, Paris is a friend.”……..
Money Losers of 2007: Kelly Clarkson’s edgier sound leads to ebbing sales
……Kelly parted ways with her management company in June, with a source telling tabloid Us Weekly that there was disagreement “over the songs and the direction” of My December. Low ticket sales then prompted the cancellation of her summer arena tour.
But Kelly’s still young and vibrant, with a good head on her shoulders and a great voice for pop music. She’s embarking upon a tour of smaller venues earlier next year and already at work on her fourth album. I’m confident she’ll be back on top again … there will be another “moment like this” for the American Idol groundbreaker.
A Bandtastic Voyage
Ahead of Friday’s ”Next Great American Band” finale, Sixwire, Mile High Orchestra, and The Clark Brothers reflected back on their toughest moment on the show and life before they captured the prime-time spotlight
It’s time for the ultimate band showdown — Idol style! After eight weeks of competition, during which judges Johnny Rzeznik, Sheila E., and Aussie Idol’s Ian ”Dicko” Dickson certainly got their fill of rock (and metal — long live Light of Doom!), three groups remain for Friday night’s finale of Fox’s Next Great American Band: country five-piece Sixwire, the 12-member horn ensemble Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, and the bluegrass-tinged sibling trio The Clark Brothers. Funny enough, they all reside in Nashville and each has their own unique Idol past. Read on for all you need to know about the final three……..
Student label releases CD by American Idol’s Bice
A student-run label at Belmont University is manufacturing and selling a CD for the Brothers of the Southland, an all-star group led by American Idol contestant Bo Bice.
The label, Acklen Entertainment, has also signed one band, Riker Out, and is looking for others - all part of a push that began in the fall to restart a program that fell by the wayside five years ago.
Students can sign artists, give them studio time to record music, create and distribute CDs, promote artists and book performances.
“Every local band wants to put out a CD, but they can’t afford studio time,” says Belmont professor Dave Herrera, faculty advisor for Acklen. “We want to be an avenue for that.”
Worst offense: Squandering talent

Modestan and “American Idol” season one semifinalist/wild-card contestant Alexis Lopez is featured on the new CD “American Christmas.”
The Christmas compilation CD released nationally by “American Idol” includes past contestants like Frenchie Davis and RJ Helton.
Lopez, who now goes by Alexis Stone Lopez, sings “Winter Wonderland” on the disc. Her cover of the holiday classic is the CD’s top song on iTunes.

Band of Plymouth singer Denver Bierman loses Fox’s ‘Band’ competition tonight
Denver & the Mile High Orchestra lost Fox Television’s “The Next Great American Band” contest to The Clark Brothers on Friday night’s finale.
The 12-piece Christian big band includes two members from Plymouth, singer Denver Bierman and trumpeter Adam Beck.
An acoustic trio, The Clark Brothers play roots-based country with an emphasis on vocal harmonies. The other finalist, Sixwire, has a country-rock sound…….
Franklin County band of brothers returns to big time
The Clark Brothers got a recording contract with 19 Entertainment after they won a Fox network contest.
Franklin County’s Clark Brothers are “The Next Great American Band.”
Ashley, Austin and Adam Clark survived nine weeks of competition with 12 bands on the Fox network show before Friday night’s finale, which was taped in Los Angeles on Sunday. With the win, the Clark Brothers got a recording contract with 19 Entertainment, the production company that also created “American Idol.”
Like the Clarks, the other two bands — Sixwire, and Denver and the Mile High Orchestra — were also based in Nashville, Tenn.
But the brothers weren’t in either L.A. or Music City on Friday. Instead, they were gathered with friends and fans at the Franklin Center, in Rocky Mount, to watch the finale. They flew back after taping the finale.
The show has had a small TV audience, consistently finishing at the bottom of the pack in its Friday night time slot. In Rocky Mount, though, about 185 excited folks filled two rooms at the Franklin Center to support the band. At least 50 of the audience were Clark family members, said Scott Martin, Franklin County director of tourism and leisure……..
TV Close-Up: Cat Deeley
…The live show, taped for all regions beyond the Eastern time zone, features in-the-moment performances by the likes of Lifehouse, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. DVD video premieres by Fall Out Boy and Mariah Carey were announced weeks ago. Negotiations with other artists continue…

Oh, my! Jordin is no longer 17!!!
Happy birthday, Jordin! ;)
Happy Birthday Jordin! (finally) Thanks for the EW article on NGAB, Lisa. LOL that Carrie Underwood buying a house on Andy Child’s street made the property values go up!
Wow Blake, thanks for the heads up! Actually I appreciate the honesty and the warning! :)
From yesterday’s headline page:
Little known fact: Clive, like Nixon, records everything that goes on at his headquarters. Minions in the basement (aka struggling musicians), transcribe every word spoken. Here are these transcripts:
Slash: So, Clive, you wanted to talk to me?
Clive: Yes. Yes. Do sit down. What do you know about American Idol?
Slash: That TV show? It’s popular.
Clive: Yes. Well, what do you think about playing on one of the kids’ debut album? Give him some cred?
Slash: Ha! Good one Clive
Clive: I’m serious.
Slash: Ha. The guys are going to love this story. As if.
[long silence]
Slash: Seriously, I’m not doing it.
Clive: I have some pictures. Pictures you might not like getting out.
Slash: I’m a rocker. There are no compromising photos when one is a rocker.
Clive: Pictures of you at a Kenny G concert. Rocking it out.
Slash: Hey, man, it was for my Mom’s 65th birthday. She loves that guy. What are you going to do? People will understand. They all got Moms.
Clive: Did you know that your Mom is the same height as Barry Manilow? Makes the photoshopping easier.
Slash: You are one whacked little dude, man. I’ll just tell people I was stoned out of my mind. Hell. I used to belong to the most dangerous band in the world. People will just assume I was stoned out of my mind.
Clive: I see we’ve come to an impass.
Slash: Yeah
Clive: Let’s talk about your new album. I have some songs Diane Warren just wrote that would be a perfect fit.
Slash: I can be in the studio tomorrow to record for that Idol kid. Just tell me when. Happy to be of service.
(Next Day):
Chris D: Hey, Slash, my man. Clive tells me you wanted to play guitar on my album.
Slash: Something like that.
Chris D: Cool. I’ve always been a huge fan. I listened to Bon Jovi all the time when I was a kid.
Slash: That was Richie. Richie Sambora.
Chris D: Oops. My bad. I always get you two bands mixed up. I’m a big fan of Van Halen too.
Slash: That was Eddie. Eddie Van Halen.
Chris D: Really? I didn’t know the band was named after a person. Why would you name a band after the guitarist? Why not the most important person in the band, the singer?
Slash: Boggles the mind, doesn’t it? We guitarists are just interchangeable, aren’t we Axl?
Chris D: Actually my name is Chris. My band’s named after me.
Slash: I’m sure it is.
Chris D: So, which band are you in then?
Slash: Velvet Revolver.
Chris D: Who?
Slash: That was Pete. Pete Townshend.
Chris D: Never heard of him. Is he your lead singer?
Slash: Sure, kid. Why not?
Chris D: Cool. So, how many units of your last album did you guys move?
[long silence]
Slash: No more talking. Let’s just get this done.
I don’t post often, but by golly Kirsten I must say you make me laugh. That was funny, thanks.
Happy Birthday Jordin! I heard “Tattoo” on the radio yesterday for the first time (was in someone else’s car and they had the pop station on). Sounded good.
Loved the NGAB finale - one of the best finales I’ve seen. Not too much fluff and filler, and the group numbers were outstanding. Idol should take notes. Congrats to the Clarks and to Sarah for picking the winners!
ROTFLMAO
Kirsten! Brilliant, as usual! ;)
Kirsten never ceases to amaze. You’ve misssed your calling my friend. :)
Happy Birthday, Jordin! Finally!
Brilliant, Kirsten!
Kirsten!
The sad thing is, it very likely went down about like that.
Up to my elbows in cookie dough and short on patience, I take a break to check out the headlines and I find another hilarious post by Kirsten! Thenks, I needed that. Now back to the cookie dough….
Oops! I meant “Thanks.” (I don’t know how to edit.)
lurker, outing myself to say “Go Kirsten”. I just know that’s how it went……………..
Kirsten–Hilarious! Somehow I think it went down JUST like that.
Kirsten’s satire is hilarious, absolutely, as always. Her posts add much awesome humor to the comments section.
But, back to earth.
I imagine Slash did it for the money. And I’ll bet there was very little emotion involved in his thought process.
Business is business.
of course “money rules”, it always does. But when you thing of all the people she mentioned in her post, what a bunch of rock’s more unusual characters. A Saturday Night Live skit waiting to happen…….
Yes, Kelly is young. Plenty of time for her to realize that she’s nothing more than a singing automaton whose sole purpose in life is to churn out an endless array of catchy but soulless Swedish-duo-penned pop hits. (BARF)
OH MY GOD…you mean to tell me that Slash DOESN’T think that DAUGHTRY! is the most hardcore RAWKER EVAH? MJ, you’re breaking my heart…
Oh, and happy birthday, Jordin. I hope you still have a career now that you’re 18.
Thanks everyone. These things are fun to write…er…receive from Clive Minion Central.
It’s also fun when people play along.
“I imagine Slash did it for the money. And I’ll bet there was very little emotion involved in his thought process.
Business is business.”
True, but Slash’s guitar playing on “What I Want” sounds more inspired that anything he did on Libertad, IMO. It just kicks ass.
It’s a very funny post. No one here writes satire better than Kirsten. My point was missed, but never mind.
Well, my bags are packed and I am ready to head to Atlanta for the Holiday! Just wanted to say Happy Holidays to all and thanks for such a *fun* read all these months! I will be back catching up on all the reading so keep the informative, creative and *snarky* posts coming! I am looking forward to another season of fun!
Be Blessed and safe this Holiday season! Pix
Happy Holidays Pix!
One thing that I find amusing is that Bon Jovi was considered rock lite back in the day, just like Daughtry is now. Oh, and for the record, I agree on both counts.
I do see lifetime achievement awards and the R&R hall of fame in Bon Jovi’s future, though. Plus, Jon is more attractive now than when he had all that hair. That never hurts.
Safe travels, Pix!
