Clay Aiken Reflects on a Year of Coming Out, Being a New Dad
It’s been a year of major developments for Clay Aiken.
In late September the American Idol favorite acknowledged in a PEOPLE cover story that he’s gay à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ an announcement that followed the Aug. 8 birth of his first child, Parker, with his best friend, music producer Jaymes Foster, 50.
While Aiken’s coming out generated significant interest on Internet blogs, it’s the singer’s status as a new dad that he says makes 2008 the most memorable.

Happy 19th Birthday Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson Took Your Spotlight
Happy Birthday Grammy-nominated “Idol” winner Jordin Sparks! Truth be told I am not the biggest “American Idol” fan … I mean, minus the short-bus style audition episodes, I totally pass on the actual show. I just don’t get the whole drawn-out process of week after week, vote after vote — just pick one already!
All that said, it is my favorite of all “Idol” winners’, Jordin Sparks’ big day. She is turning 19 today, and, needless to say, is a perfect lady. Ms. Sparks was spotted performing at Sandalford Winery in Perth, Australia, over the weekend, after being missing from the stage for the past couple of weeks. Her new album is rumored to be hitting stores mid to late 2009, and if it’s anything like her last one I think I may freak out a lil.

Service members here had the opportunity to laugh and rock out to comedians Lewis Black, Kathleen Madigan, John Bowman and musicians Tichina Arnold, Zac Brown, Kellie Pickler and Kid Rock Dec. 19.
Country musician Kellie Pickler sang her hit single à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Red High Heelsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and even interrupted her rendition of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“9 to 5à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to invite one lucky Marine to the front of the stage. The Marine had been holding a sign that said, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“All I want for Christmas is a kiss from Kellie Pickler.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ The Marine got his wish.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My grandfather was a Marine and he was the one who raised me, so he was excited when he heard I was coming out here,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ said Pickler.
Pickler decided to tour with the USO after finding out about it from a fellow country music star.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I heard about Toby Keith doing a USO tour, so I talked to my manager and did what I could to make it out here,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ said Pickler.

FOX inks Daughtry and Lynyrd Skynyrd for New Year’s Show
FOX has inked Daughtry and Lynyrd Skynyrd to perform on New Year’s Eve Live airing Wednesday, Dec. 31 (11:00 PM-12:30 AM ET live; CT/MT/PT tape-delayed).
Talk show host Spike Feresten and Mark Thompson will host from the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip and lead the count down to 2009. The evening will feature performances by David Cook, Daughtry, Scott Weiland and Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as a death-defying motorcycle jump by daredevil Robbie Knievel.

Tragedy: On Oct. 24, just one week after Hudson’s drama The Secret Life of Bees opened and soon after her self-titled CD was released, the singer/actress, 27, learned that her mother and brother had been found dead, and her 7-year-old nephew was missing. The body of Julian, son of her sister, Julia, was found three days later. Julia’s estranged husband, William Balfour, has since been charged in the deaths.
Hope: Shortly after the tragedy, Hudson’s family announced the Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims, which would help families of murder victims by providing food, clothing, shelter and grief counseling. And on Dec. 3, Hudson received four Grammy nominations, among them best R&B album.

The former pop singer, who dated Cowell in the late Eighties, says she is going to play matchmaker to find him a new girlfriend after he split from long-term love Terri Seymour.
Sinitta, 42, and Cowell, 49, are currently holidaying together for a month in the Caribbean, giving them plenty of time to discuss the X Factor judge’s dream woman.

American Idol host and professional dick Simon Cowell is known for being a cad, and that apparently reaches to the blogosphere.
One of our writers ran a quick post yesterday highlighting the fact that Simon Cowell has hairy man boobs. A touch in jest naturally, and the image was widely featured on celeb blogs.
Then we, and presuming the other sites received a legal threat from Cowellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s lawyers claiming among other things that running the photo breaches Cowellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rights under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The lawyers are American, but apparently theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re incapable of filing a compliant DMCA request. Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve removed the photo: at the end of the day ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not worth a fight over, but ironically it took about 2 seconds to find a similar 12 month old shot that wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mentioned in their email.

Cowell offers X Factor winner free holiday
‘X Factor’ winner Alexandra Burke has said that Simon Cowell has offered her a holiday to “anywhere in the world”.
According to a posting on the singer’s website, Cowell offered Burke the reward after her single ‘Hallelujah’ went to number one in the charts.
Burke said: “This is absolutely crazy, I can’t believe it. It’s been the best week of my life.”

The national tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’, which co-stars “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard and former Rent star Frenchie Davis, will make a stop in the New York City metropolitan area in 2009.
The 30th anniversary tour of the Tony-winning revue will play the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx May 16, 2009, at 8 PM. Tickets, priced $20-$45, are currently available by visiting www.lehmancenter.org.

Aiken is already expecting a child with his strictly business lady friend, 50-year old music producer Jaymes Foster, and they are currently working towards having another, 29-year old Aiken recently told In Touch.

I was watching “Today Looks Back at 2008″ on NBC and they used TOML as the background music for part of their pop culture montage. I think it now has been used as background music for a program on NBC, Fox/Espn and ABC. Wow, that Magic Rainbow still has some legs left! CBS should take the hint.
LOL, lots of people on DCO simultaniously commented about NBC using it a few moments ago. This must be a widely watched show, I gather?

DA’s music video for ALTNOY is available on iTunes now with an astonishing lack of ads. Like… none… right now. If you didn’t know it was there you wouldn’t find out by perusing iTunes. Katy Perry ate up all the exclusive video promotion for the week, which is sad because her new video is more disturbing than entertaining. Oh, and Beyonce is releasing 2 videos this week as well. She always eats up ad space. We’ll see how it can do without any promotion. I was hoping it would get at least a tiny ad to help with post-Christmas itunes download sales for the video, song and potentially album, but *sigh* guess it wasn’t meant to be (at least unless they switch in an ad midweek, but I’m not holding my breath).
For reference, the Crush MV got tons of ad space but that was an iTunes exclusive. ALTNOY was a Yahoo exclusive. But a small ad wouldn’t have hurt.
We had thought that there would be an ad for the LO video, and didn’t see one then. I’m not sure what new records, etc., were debuting that week, but I seem to recall assuming that it was just that something more interesting to Apple got the real estate. Sounds like that’s what happened here, as well.
^^ I think LO eventually got a small ad, though. It didn’t show up right away, but it was there the next day, I believe (can’t recall which page, though). ALTNOY isn’t even on the Music Video page on iTunes. It’s almost like it’s not there at all. Maybe an ad will eventually show up somewhere but, like I said, I’m not holding my breath.
I know *why* it doesn’t have an ad–doesn’t make it less disappointing though.
My guess is that they released the video last week on Yahoo to build buzz (which it did, btw–the MV was all over the blogosphere, and still is). But releasing it online meant they pretty much had to release it on iTunes fairly quickly (otherwise most people would just satisfy themselves with free versions they find). I don’t believe they really expect to sell a whole lot on iTunes this week at all (obviously). And the song isn’t taking off yet, especially due to the holidays (no Hot AC or AC stations reported any adds this week, and ALTNOY is getting played by a few of those). So there’s really no point artificially climbing the single due to big ads right now. Not that I would have minded some artificial climbing, but I understand why it doesn’t much matter right now and why chart-climbing will matter so much more later when the single is impacting radio.
Does the purchase of the ALTNOY video count as a sale for the single? I’ll be buying it either way. I was just curious.
You said that it was a Yahoo exclusive, right? Maybe, that’s the consequence of that decision; Itunes found other more accomodating, more popular artists to advertise.

I wanted the ALTNOY video and went to iTunes and couldn’t find it for a while. I had to search for David’s name and view everything he’s done to access it. Too bad the video isn’t more present on the site.
LO didn’t have an ad the week it was released, but the next week (or was it 2 weeks after?) it appeared on the music videos page, in that rotating thing they have there for the hot music videos.
Even on DC’s site, a message about it only appeared when the video was already top 10.
I think the difference is that Crush was released on Itunes, not anywhere else before it, so it got an ad for beeing an Itunes release.
LO and ALTNOY were released in other places before…
Is there any way to know how much those videos sell? I don’t think it’s much, but I’m curious.
I watched NBC’s 2008 special (I was hoping they’d show the moment when DC won AI) and was pleasantly surprised when they used TOML to accompany some special moments. It’s really a good song, after all, for times like that, and the way Cookie sings it makes it work.
