The best and the worst of reality TV in 2007

Most Deserved Awards: Kathy Griffin’s Emmy, Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar

Kathy Griffin took home an Emmy for her Bravo reality series “My Life on the D-List,” one of the few docudrama reality series that really seems to let us eavesdrop on a person’s life.

The death of Kathy’s hysterical father, John, was one of the lower notes, but even that was presented so genuinely that viewers couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. The series is among the best of the best, and definitely deserved its prize.

Most Overrated Show: ‘American Idol 6′

Quick: Think of “American Idol 6.” What comes to mind first? Most likely it’s Sanjaya, the pretty nice guy who was a pretty awful singer, and who stayed in the competition way longer than he should have. The best singer in the competition, Melinda Doolittle, went home a few weeks too early, leaving Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis to battle it out. Both have recently released their debut albums, and both debuted at number 10, showing that while the viewers watch the show more than any other, their interest is ephemeral at best.

    American Idol going down?

Over the years much has been discussed about Fox’s #1 ranked reality TV show “American Idol, each year from the second year on the critics without much imagination or knowledge come forward with their prediction that American Idol would fall upon hard times and tumble in the ratings. This year I am here to finally agree with them. I will not go as far as to say “American Idol you are going DOWN!”, however I will say “American Idol get ready to give up a big share of your audience. You may remain #1 but you will be eating humble pie.”

Exclusive Interview: Bo Bice, former ‘American Idol’

American Idol alumni often struggle with their second album. The individual artists often appease the record studios with their debut work, making as commercial an album as possible to quickly cash in on the sometimes fleeting fame that accompanies their involvement with American Idol. Bo Bice released his first album to commercial success. When it came to create his second album, Bo chose to make something more personal, something that may not be as commercially feasible as his first. The result is the recently released “See the Light.” Bo stopped by not long ago to discuss his second album.

Thank you Foxydonna for posting the link about Bo’s cd STL I love that cd. It is so the Bo that should have been all along. One downfall to the whole sophomore cd was making it exclusive to walmart. There are many people who do not shop the walmart empire, and I think that is ashame as far as the public getting to hear STL. I agree with the second place Idols seem to struggle with their second time out of the stall releases.

    Watching the Kennedy Honors…

There is just something about Hootie & The Blowfish singing Beach Boy songs that is making me all warm and fuzzy. What a hoot, Hootie, heh.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

I love Bo’s new cd as well. He has had so many roadblocks thrown in front of him since he appeared on Idol, makes you wonder if this isnt what Bo is supposed to do.
