<blockquote>I have not doubt he appeals to people. Just not to me! Eye of the beholder, I realize, but I want something from a performer besides a good voice.</blockquote>

I thought Phil was really hard to watch on the show. He looked really uncomfortable on camera. The bald head and death stare were a bit skeery. Live, he's a lot more relaxed, and imo, was able to command the big arena very well. There was definitely charisma on display there that I never saw on television...

We Finally here from Taylor....posted on his myspace page.......

A statement from Taylor: To all my fans and The Soul Patrol, I want to take a moment to talk about the recent news that my label and I have mutually parted ways. The important thing for all of you to remember is that I've been a working musician my whole life. This is turning the page on a new chapter of my career. Artistic freedom and control is an exciting prospect. The things that are most important to me is creating my art, performing it, and my fans. With the momentum that all of you have created over the years, Taylor Hicks is not going to stop anytime soon. I've started working on the new album, writing and scheduling exciting collaborations. The DVD, Whomp at the Warfield, is in it's final stages, and will be released soon. So as one door closes, a new one opens for 2008 with more excitement for all my fans than ever before. Sit tight, because the best is yet to come!

RUBEN STUDDARD AND J RECORDS END THEIR RELATIONSHIP. For the past few weeks there have been numerous reports of Ruben Studdard being dropped from his label, J Records. According to a press release, Studdard and J Records came to a mutual agreement in May of 2007 to discontinue their artist/label relationship. Due to differences concerning the direction of future albums, it was decided by both parties, to search out new opportunities. The press release states that Ruben has nothing but love and respect for Clive Davis and the J Records staff. But Studdard fans need not worry, they can expect a full length, very soulful album due to be released by summer of 2008. Ruben is also due to introduce his Big and Tall clothing line, Royal Statue Clothing, in early 2008. And if that's not enough Studdard for you, his independent recording label, RCS Music Group, is set to release Sherri as its debut artist and also this year he and his mother will become authors of a series of educational children's books due to have their first release. Additionally, Studdard is set to open a restaurant in the entertainment district in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama in the summer of 2009.

Ruben has a lot going on this year.

1. Full length very soulful album due by summer 2008
2. Royal Staue Clothing, early 2008
3. Release of debut artist Sherri
4. A "series" of educational Children's books with mom to have first release
5. Ain't Misbehavin' in November

Finally listened to Phil's single. He sounds good, but the song is pretty generic, if you ask me. He could do very well, though!

As for Bucky, he was a more than a little awkward performing on the Idol stage. However, I think he improved during the AI tour. When I saw him last spring at Joe's on Weed Street, he was obviously more in his element with his band and put on a fantastic and fun show. I'd see him again! Well worth the price of admission.

Oh, and it was fun seeing Rocky on stage with him, too. :)

I know this is from Ok Magazine but I thought the wording was interesting. I highlighted the part that caught my eye.

Taylor Hicks Parts with Record Label

Taylor Hicks has split with his record company, his rep announces.

<strong>>"American Idol winner Taylor Hicks has announced that he and Arista Records have mutually agreed to part ways,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ reads a statement from his camp.</strong>

No reason was specified for the separation nor was a new home for the singer announced, but the statement goes on to say the 31-year-old currently working on a new album to be released later this year.

While Taylor charmed his way towards a win on the fifth season of American Idol, his on-screen success didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t translate to sales. During his time on Arista, the salt-and-pepper haired singer released a self-titled debut album in December 2006 that opened just shy of the top spot at No. 2. It was eventually certified platinum for shipping one million units à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' the operative word being "shipping." In actuality, the disc only sold about 696,000 copies, making it the lowest-selling debut by an AI winner until Jordin Sparks dethroned him this year with her thus far lackluster sales.

Although respectable, Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s numbers pale in comparison to those of fellow AI champs (Jordin notwithstanding), all of whom pushed at least one million units with their first efforts. Adding insult to injury, he's not even the most successful alum from his season. That honor goes to Chris Daughtry, who has rocked his way towards double platinum status and four Grammy nominations with his band, Daughtry.

Calls to Taylor's rep have yet to be returned.

<blockquote>Phil is a really good live performer, better than Bucky, imo. He should do really well on tour</blockquote>

I have not doubt he appeals to people. Just not to me! Eye of the beholder, I realize, but I want something from a performer besides a good voice.

I think Bucky has charisma in spades. I thought so on the Idol tour, even though vocally he was really not, uh, uhm, "there" yet.

And, of course, I am not a fan of the bald heads, so.... :undecided_tb:

The song Phil does sounds great. And, as I said above, it is just generic enough to be a big-time hit if it will catch on.

He seems to be a really good guy and I wish him success.

I was pleasantly surprised last evening during the BCS game.
The network used Marc Broussard's "Home" before the beginning
of the second half. *Sweet*

That's funny, PJ. My guess would be they've got momentum from the AMA Awards they won and the recent Grammy Nominations.

Congrats to Carrie, Daughtry and Jordin.

I didn't listen to much pop and/or rock radio before Season 5, therefore, I did not know most of the songs Chris sang on the show. No clue that the band Live existed and had barely heard of Nickelback and Fuel. I had never heard of some of the others. They were new to me. I had never heard Nickelback's song, "Savin' Me", until Chris and Elliott sang it on tour.

Daughtry has opened up for some big-name bands in the past months so maybe the fans of those artists are falling in love with Daughtry and buying the CD.

I don't own the CD because I don't like the style of music but I can understand why it's selling so well. IMO the band members are adorable and I like the first 2 songs. Heck, I almost bought the Nickelback song "Rockstar" after hearing it a few hundred times on the radio.

I edited that part out. :) There are many extremely popular albums that I hate. I just accept the fact that other people like them.

I didn't say it was to make Taylor look bad.
Daughtry's record company could give a flip about Taylor.

The same people who buy Nickelback buy Daughtry and they sold around 5 million albums so Daughtry can sell some more. I doubt the record company spent $30 million to buy Daughtry's album. :0

Hits Daily Double finals. Blake didn't make top 50, so he must have sold less than 15,453, which is what Dane Cook sold in slot 50.

Who are all the peeps still buying Daughtry? You'd think everyone who wanted it would have it by now. LOL.

I agree with Kirsten....haven't loved any of the singles released by Carrie, Jordan or Blake. I think Phil's single is sort of Country but is closer to the Pop side of things.

I love Bucky...love hearing him on country radio when I listen.

<blockquote>Phil: I have nothing against the guy, but his scary looks on Idol were a turn-off to me. I have no interest in seeing him sing anything, unless he wears a BIG cowboy hat. And even thenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..</blockquote>

Phil is a really good live performer, better than Bucky, imo. He should do really well on tour.

Now this is one Idol I (also) want to see succeed... ;)

<strong>'American Idol' Season Three Finalist Jon Peter Lewis Recording New Album</strong>

<em>Jon Peter Lewis, the first singer to bring rock 'n' soul to "American Idol," will release his second album this spring.

Chris Garcia, who has worked with Santana and Michelle Branch, Dido and Jewel, is producing the album under the guidance of executive producer Don Grierson, a former head of A&R for Capitol and Epic Records involved with Bob Seger, Heart, Duran Duran, Cheap Trick, Celine Dion and Tina Turner.

JPL, as he was known on "Idol," is writing or co-writing several tracks for the album, which will feature such esteemed session musicians as guitarist Nick Lashley (Alanis Morissette) and drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Cougar, Indigo Girls)...</em>

Phil's Song: Generic as they come. Should be a HUGE hit.

Phil: I have nothing against the guy, but his scary looks on Idol were a turn-off to me. I have no interest in seeing him sing anything, unless he wears a BIG cowboy hat. And even then.....

I simply do not see that Phil will have the country success that Bucky has enjoyed. But that may just be me.
