David Archuleta is the latest American Idol alum to show off his patriotic chops when he sings the National Anthem at the NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday.

In addition to his performing at the Pro Bowl on Sunday, KGBM-9 News in Hawaii reports that...

David Archuleta from American Idol fame will be at the FREE NFL Ohana Day this Saturday at Aloha Stadium during the Pro Bowl Players' only Open Practice.

The Ohana Day event on Saturday, Feb. 7 is from 9 to 12 pm (noon) and is a free event for all ages. It is unclear what his function will be at the event. I suspect that he will provide some of the musical entertainment and maybe do a meet and greet.

I like the lumberjack shirts. But DCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so weird with the phases he goes through with clothes. He doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really switch it upà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s distinct phases only: he kept to mostly blazers or dark button downs for the post-Idol media blitz, went to colorful v-necks during the AI tour, then it was the business-casual vest-tie combo for the album release blitz, and now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the lumberjack shirt look. Does he throw out old clothes after heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done with a phase or is it just because heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s living out of a suitcase? Anyway, I hated the v-necks, but otherwise, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all good.

sma11ie, just read this and had to quote it back, that analysis of Cook's wardrobe choices is LOLtastic and so on point. He's always keeping us on our toes, though, doesn't he? WTF!Cook indeed.

Anyone else wondering about the frequent use of ADAM lately? Two times on Idol, and now this latest Vlog. I don't think it's the next single or anything, but it's interesting.

I saw the first performance he did live of Permanent too. It was at the David Wright Gala at the Hard Rock Cafe In NYC. His dad was also in the audience. It was beautiful & heartwarming. David couldn't hold back the tears at the end.

Wow, all kind's of Cook goodness here today! Thank you IndyMuse and Jolene for the links!

Aw, about Permanent.

When he mentioned singing "Permanent" in December and how the audiences received it, my heart melted because I was in the audience the first time he sang it live.

Kelly Clarkson just dominates and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m surprised Time of My Life isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t on there and Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s coronation song is.

I was talking to some people about how Fred is calculating his list--I guess somebody has to go pick up one of his books to read the explanation. lol. My guess is that he's simply basing it off of historical positions of the songs on the Hot 100. Not only their peak but how many weeks they spent at various positions. If a song spent more time at a higher position it'll obviously be higher up on the list. And I suspect that once a song goes recurrent it can't move up in points because it gets removed from the Hot 100. But, again, somebody would have to seek out one of Fred's books to really know what he's doing.

TOML spent a couple weeks in the top 10 on the Hot 100, its first at #3, but if I recall it fell shortly thereafter and didn't spend a whole lot of time at higher positions on the Hot 100 (I was just informed it spent 9 weeks in the top 40). Taylor's single reached #1 (which probably counts for more points under Fred's system) and simply sold more. TOML had better airplay (although primarily in the smallest format, AC, which doesn't count for much on the Hot 100), but it couldn't make up for DIMYP's sales or initial Hot 100 position.

That chart really does show what a power Kelly's second album was. Breakaway was huge. Her first album's success is barely comparable. She really bucked the trend of the second album slump.

I'm happy and a little surprised that Crush wound up at #13 (it'll get bumped down to #14 soon by MLWSWY, but I'm not complaining lol). It spent one week in the top 10 at #2, several weeks in the 20s and a few weeks in the teens. It overstayed its 20 weeks by 4 weeks I believe, so it had more time on the Hot 100 than some others did. I'm so pleased that all 3 of Jordin's singles are up there as well, although OSAAT will likely get kicked off that list eventually. Still, Jordin has done so well for herself.

I hope they show some video footage of this on AI!

I'm sure they will. It only benefits AI to promote the AI Experience on WDW. I wonder who's performing out of all those attending. Plus - Cook and Carrie! I want to see a picture of them together, knowing they're friends and all.

American Idol celebrities to kick off attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios

More than 20 American Idol luminaries will be attending next week's premiere of the American Idol Experience attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney officials confirm. Along with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, current winner David Cook, former winners Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks and Carrie Underwood, and past contestants David Archuleta, Bo Bice and Justin Guarini will participate in the invitation-only festivities Thursday, Feb. 12. (The lineup, Disney reminds us, is subject to change and expand.)

Theme-park guests that day can get a glimpse of the Idol family during a motorcade at 4:30 p.m.

Earlier that day -- before the park even opens -- Cook will be doing a live segment for ABC's Good Morning America. Sorry, fans, it's a closed set.

The American Idol Experience, which has been in a soft opening phase for a few weeks, will have its grand opening on Feb. 14. The attraction will feature competition between guests singing on stage with a daily overall winner who will score the power to go to the front of the line of auditions for Fox's American Idol show, the most popular program on U.S. television.

Along with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, current winner David Cook, former winners Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks and Carrie Underwood, and past contestants David Archuleta, Bo Bice and Justin Guarini will participate in the invitation-only festivities Thursday, Feb. 12.
The Billboard Chart analyst has an interesting list of the top 20 songs released by Idols. He said he uses a point system explained in his book on hit songs.
Anyway, here they are:

1. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Since U Been Gone,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2005)
2. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Before He Cheats,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Carrie Underwood (2007)
3. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Air,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Jordin Sparks duet with Chris Brown (2008)
4. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Breakaway,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2004)
5. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Because of You,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2005)
6. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“A Moment Like This,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2002)
7. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Behind These Hazel Eyes,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2005)
8. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Not Over,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Daughtry (2007)
9. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Tattoo,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Jordin Sparks (2007)
10. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Home,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Daughtry (2007)
11. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This Is the Night,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Clay Aiken (2003)
12. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Wait for You,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Elliott Yamin (2007)
13. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Crush,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ David Archuleta (2008)
14. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Inside Your Heaven,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Carrie Underwood (2005)
15. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Miss Independent,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2003)
16. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Walk Away,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2006)
17. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Sorry 2004,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ruben Studdard (2004)
18. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My Life Would Suck Without You,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Kelly Clarkson (2009)
19. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Do I Make You Proud,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Taylor Hicks (2006)
20. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“One Step at a Time,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Jordin Sparks (2008)

Kelly Clarkson just dominates and I'm surprised Time of My Life isn't on there and Taylor's coronation song is.

Aww, how adorkable!
I knew we'd get some sort of vlog about the tour. The level of angs at shows selling out has been insane. Yeeesh.

Man, I guess I am the only one who did not like the girl who interviewed DC on ABC. She didn't seem to know what she was doing. Plus, she got the website wrong. Simple mistake I guess. But his answers were great, he is such a wonderful interviewee!

a nice long interview from ABC News.

Hmm, DC says point blank that he doesn't have a big ego... but he wants freakin meat plates on tour, who does he think he is? Kidding! Heh, just thought the meat plate was a little random. Nice interview. I like the lumberjack shirts. But DC's so weird with the phases he goes through with clothes. He doesn't really switch it up-- it's distinct phases only: he kept to mostly blazers or dark button downs for the post-Idol media blitz, went to colorful v-necks during the AI tour, then it was the business-casual vest-tie combo for the album release blitz, and now it's the lumberjack shirt look. Does he throw out old clothes after he's done with a phase or is it just because he's living out of a suitcase? Anyway, I hated the v-necks, but otherwise, it's all good.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been thinking about doing a separate day-after-show post with links to re-capsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

I agree with the others-- love reading recaps more than watching at this stage, so I'm all about it!

"When we first heard he was going to be on we were shocked," says [Nathan] Kress, 16. "The entire week it was, 'Is David going to be here? Is he shooting today?' I was in the hair and makeup room, getting touched up after lunch, and I had no idea he was there," Kress says of the day Archuleta finally arrived at the set. "I was talking to Jerry, and I called myself a huge geek or something. And I hear this voice going something like, 'Man, I'm the king of the geeks.' And I turned around to see and some people cleared out of the way and there he was."

Kress says Archuleta proved himself a natural at the short scenes he stars in for the episode. "He took it all totally in stride, especially since he had no idea what his lines were until he showed up that day, and we shot it half an hour later. So in half an hour he pulled it off impressively. I think what struck me the most was this is just the most humble, down-to-earth guy. He's just a teenager and he was just one of the guys. He was in no way a diva, like a Hollywood pretentious kind of thing."

Hehehe!! Nathan Kress sounds like a serious fanboy. It's funny, because in the clips of the commercials for the upcoming Archie episode, they portray his Freddie character as being indifferent or jealous of him. Haha!

Just want to note that Melinda Doolittle's "Coming Back to You" is getting very good reviews from many sources, and just a few quibbles, adding up to an 80 out of 100 rating on Meta-Critic, and an overall "B "

If you don't like get-down retro-soul music, you may want to take a pass. That's her genre here, and it fits her like a glove. But if you do like that genre, this disc is really a treat. I've been wearing out a few of the tracks myself. Here's a sampling of other reviews.

Here's one from recordonline.com:

Melinda Doolittle, Coming Back to You

The cover of Melinda Doolittleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s debut LP à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Coming Back to Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is a carbon copy of Bob Dylanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Freewheelinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Bob Dylan.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ An interesting nod, and maybe one that points to the reason for this record of old-school covers: This ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t no à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ production. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very freewheeling. And ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very good.

Of course, Doolittle can sing, and she was a backup singer for so long, so she knows the game. The trick for her was to parlay that into solo success, and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t quite work out. What it did was show she could belt out old-school soul, and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the crux of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Coming Back to You.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ She infuses real energy into à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Declaration of Love,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ gets playfully mean in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dust My Broom.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ This is when sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s at her best à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' letting her voice spread out a bit over the melody, showing off her chops and Motown-like character.

The production overwhelms in a few places, such as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll Never Stop Loving You,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ which never really fits Doolittle. But ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the right release for her, allowing people to take her for who she is: An extremely talented singer who fits her niche pretty well.

Grade: B

And here's a round up of quotes from other positive reviews:

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ "Doolittle channels Tina à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¨Turner and Aretha Franklin over live-band arrangements that feel fresh-faced and old-school at the same time. In 'I'll Never Stop Loving You,' she even uncovers an improbable reserve of torch-song sex appeal." [Mikael Wood, EW]

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ "She can make even nonbelievers forgive Idol for its many sins against pop music." [Howard Cohen, Miami Herald]

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ "She's no ingenue; no teenage Idol hopeful craving attention more than musical chops. Melinda Doolittle is a real, soulful woman with plenty to sing. " [Mario Tarradell, Dallas Morning News]

    * Doolittle was characterized by marked shyness on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no trace of that on this confident collection of covers. She flirts with a few tunes that have pep in their step (like on the aptly titled à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Wonderfulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ), but can also command total attention through the entire length of her ballads, as she does with a wistful heart on the string-decorated à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll Never Stop Loving Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and with fiery passion amidst catchy drum roll rhythms of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Your Love.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ She almost even channels Tina Turnerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s great warble on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I Will Be,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ but Doolittle has already begun to find her own voice.
From Phi's blog in the LA Times:

Simon has a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“forget the wordsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ no-tolerance policy. That is, unless he REALLY likes you. If anyone forgets the words and still makes it through, they are a guarantee for the semifinals. It really is that simple.

Yep, yep and yep.

David Cook sells himself so well in his interviews. I don't think I've ever watched/heard/read an interview of him where he didn't give organized, thoughtful answers, even to bad questions.

This particular interview was wonderful. Was it televised? It would be such a shame if only a few people saw it.

Great DC interview! Great snippets from LO video, Iraq concert, and AI Finale snippets. Awesome. She's a fan, but more importantly, she's done her pre-interview research. Wow, nice to see a reporter who knows his album and his story. Aw, about Permanent.

Large skull? Hee!

DC, go for the Jif or natural peanut butter on your tour bus.
